  1. BS to all who say no to family participation in medicine. If the patient allows for a family member to be there, then I have no problem bringing the family member with us to the hospital. We, as medical professionals, are supposed to not only treat the physical alterations of our patients, but make sure we can keep our patients emotionally satisfied too. In cases where patients are on the verge of death, it is proper to allow family to enter to being a grieving process. I seem to remember a thread dealing with tattoos where a large number thought tattoos were making patients uncomfortable and even distressed. So, why are we going to place a child in the back of the ambulance and make the child distressed because we wanted to show our 'authority' of the ambulance and place the parent up front? I can see regulating tattoos, but messing around with emotional and familial bonds should not happen. How about the older senile family member who does not feel comfortable alone, and requires the presence of family members? How about cultures that prefer to have certain family members present for all medical care?
  2. I want the name of his dealer...
  3. Well crotch, that blows most theological theories out the door.
  4. I still have not totally made my mind up on this issue, but this is how I currently am viewing the practice of abortion... Abortion should only be done during the first trimester, except for cases of rape or significant risk to maternal health. The other exception I can see is if the child has a significant chance of death, or being still born, as in a mercy abortion/euthanasia. After 16 weeks, the fetus forms structures very essential for life, such as development of bone, then surfactant for the lungs. The heart and lungs develop, and start contracting to in essence 'practice'. By this point, it seems the fetus is truly a person. Before this point, the fetus seems like a cluster of cells, but definitely not a person, IMO, due to survivability. By the point the fetus is able to survive outside of the uterus, it should be considered a living being of its own accord. By this point, it should be a child, just one that is not outside of the uterus. The difference of the child in the uterus vs. out of the uterus is just a matter of location. The child can survive outside of the uterus with some of our great medical technology, but it is better for it to be in the uterus, to have natural development. So, by the time the child is definitely able to survive, I would consider an abortion murder. The child's survivability is not in question, just the location. Should you be able to abort a child in the later stages of development, then why not just murder your kids that are 1 year old or less? They can both survive. Do we not do it because we can then see the child? If the child can survive outside of the uterus, then the difference between the unborn child and born child is location. I would say that if a woman has not decided by the first trimester to abort a fetus, then by default, the decision is to house the child for the last six months of development. These are just my brief thoughts. I am welcome to some counter discussion, as it should help guide other, as myself, who have not totally made up their mind on the subject. (Also, if I did not make a point clear, just tell me and I can try and explain it better.) Mateo
  5. 8 or 9...Thanks to some 'dirty old men'...LOL How old were you when you first used a computer?
  6. And once upon a time you used to be a trucker.....you should know better than to use the term 'good buddy'
  7. Nice video. -5 though for not looking at the camera like a professional. Just sayin'...
  8. So that is what you were trying to get me to see....no wonder you specifically said 3rd stall from the end, left wall.......I'll be sure to wear my glasses next time ! Still cannot believe I am the last 10% to find out these things...
  9. Wow Kai, I'd have never guessed you use your knees so much ! You to Phil
  10. NC would be a good place. Most places do not require fire certification. Most agencies are not fire based either. As far as living in Wake County (Raleigh) it is a good place to live. Most people who leave Raleigh supposedly end up returning. Wake Co EMS is a good agency. Wake Tech Community College is a good college to get an EMS degree. Good luck.
  11. WOW ! That is intense. It will be quite an experience to put in the books. As mrmeaner said, take care of yourself. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
  12. 18 How old were you when you had your first addiction?
  13. 17 How old were you when you decided to do something drastic in your life?
  14. Something along those lines. I have had people tell me multiple times that they cleaned this or that and I go and find it the same way it was two days ago when I left it. I hate being lied to. Especially when they say the truck was cleaned, yet there are freggin bugs all over the front......there is no end
  15. I can deal with missing supplies, less than 3/4 diesel, and some dirt. The things that get me going are bad attitudes and lying. Do not treat me bad when I come in and do not lie and say you did something, when, in fact, you did not.
  16. You've obviously never seen AK in person....Its hideous... I am working on my lawsuit against him as you read this. You're going down AK...just like the rest of the guerillas !
  17. I was thinking it was more of an esophageal smooth muscle relaxer. I'd be more apt to try a heimlich maneuver for FBAO than to give glucagon.
  18. The agency I used to work for had a crew that called a UFO into dispatch. I will see if I can find the dispatch recording.
  19. Sure, the job could be done without, but why wouldyawanna'?
  20. I probably am not the best to answer this due to limited experience, but...... From Paramedic school, we were told that to decide between Epi IM vs. SQ we have to view the skin. Patients who are hemodyanamically compromised (shock) should receive the Epi IM, as the blood is shunted away from the skin. A patient who is having respiratory compromise, who has very red skin, which means no shunting, but rather vasodilation of the capillaries of the skin, should receive the Epi SQ. In this case, the Epi is absorbed through the permeable capillaries of the skin.. I hope this is right, as I hate to post inaccurate information. If anyone knows better, please let us know.
  21. Phenergan could also be used as an H1 histamine blocker.
  22. You make no sense. I will call you ignorant. Just to let you know, the extremist Muslims are not considered Muslim by the, as you say, 'good Muslims'.
  23. Where are you getting that from?
  24. Lone Star.... As much as I enjoy some of your posts, you need to lighten up on my generation. Just because the internet news feeds you the worst stories, it does not mean those stories generalize my generation. We come complete with many great minds, talents, and gifts to offer this world. This is the generation that will possibly be taking care of you one day. I get the impression that you think your generation was raised right. That any other mindset automatically makes another generation inferior to yours. Sure, my generation has its bad apples, but so does your generation. Do not kid yourself. How many posts do you think I could make showing 'failures' of people near your age? Just because MSN news feeds you news stories about 'my generation', that does not make it an accurate representation of persons near my age group. .......... Losing by 100 points, with a base score of 0 is not teaching anything to the participants. There is no competition when one teams beats the tar out of another. Obviously, with a 100-0 lead, the losing team was no competition for the winning team. The team with the higher score should have been pulled out long before they reached 100 points. The teams should be playing against those who match in skill levels. It is one thing to lose a game with matching skills, it is another to lose because the other team has a SIGNIFICANT advantage.
  25. Ruff, our hypertensive protocol allows for either nitroglycerin administration or Labetelol IVP. 20mg of Labetelol is our dosage. Sounds like you guy would already be getting nitroglycerin which may help with the pressure, and in the presence of an MI, a betablocker would not be a bad choice.
