  1. Say what you will about the Nazis, but their fashion designer was fabulous.
  2. Most interfacility jobs in So Cal. Very few heavy patients (they're there, but SNFs aren't exactly known for their massive portions at meal time) and there's almost never rain and never any snow. I'll take cash, check, or money order.
  3. Not entirely true. NR cert alone gives credit for taking an EMT-B course which means that the applicant only needs to take a practical and the written. If you can get your cert in a different state that honors NREMT completely, then you can transfer with only needing to take the written.
  4. Well, after riding the T (subway) for a while, you're going to start to wish for your rush hour drive back. /me HATES the T.
  5. I'll echo that I've heard really good things about both Cataldo and Professional. Cataldo has a rather extensive preemployment test (they weren't hiring the month that I applied ). Pretty much once you start getting out of those two (or three, I don't really know a lot about Action), it starts to go down hill fast. Fallon and EasCare are your standard IFT dominated companies with Fallon holding a bunch of 911 contracts South of Boston. EasCare, along with a handful of other companies (Cataldo is the only one I can think of off the top of my head) run backup for Boston EMS. Based on what I've heard about EasCare from a member of another forum that works there, it'd be my last choice (not everyone drives, no pagers/portable radios/nextels for the basic crews so someone always has to be in the ambulance when posting, etc).
  6. ...and how many murders would happen by other means or illegally procured guns regardless of if the second amendment existed? On the other hand, there is plenty of case law saying that the police are under no duty to protect any specific individual. Apparently he missed the center mass (highlight the black box in my first post).
  7. Sounds like a reason for more gun control.
  8. Maybe she has Cylon thread resurrection technology...
  9. I love how the patient is on a backboard with a c-collar. Yea. Burning tanker truck and someone is going to be messing with c-spine?
  10. True, but those uniforms look a little bit more glossy (most likely a different shell material, but it could be the picture and lighting. Also, fail on the modeling company for not having the woman wear a belt). I'm not familiar with Florida's colors, but from what I remember of the California sheriffs that wear green, it's normally a bit darker and drabber then that. Also, even in the area's that have green sheriffs uniforms, I feel that the connection with police is more with black than green.
  11. To be fair, he had a point about not being in uniform anymore. On that note, this thread is worthless with pics. [read that twice] Off topic: I do like how their uniforms looks (there's a picture in the main article). Dark green in color and not something that would be confused with police or fire.
  12. Current job: Small company so: 100% run review by management with feedback. Unknown if anything gets run by the service's medical director. CEs are not provided by the company, but that may be something that gets added as we grow. Old job: Unknown run review, but it felt like there was only feedback if something was drastically wrong. I can count on one had the number of times I got feed back in a two year period. CEs provided by book as well as a few classes/events (EVO training, MCI drill, etc) every year. Most of the CEs fell to the responsibility of the employee. Being a full time student at the time, the only thing I had to do was find a refresher since county EMS and NREMT gave me credit for my college courses.
  13. Repost... http://www.emtcity.com/index.php?showtopic=11866 I remember seeing this a while ago. There's a huge problem with it. Most ambulance bays are set up with ambulances parked parallel to each other. So, once you're parked you can't get the patient out of the ambulance. Another problem that people saw was that if you're on scene of an MVC, you will be loading the patient while standing in the lane next to the ambulance instead of the same lane the ambulance is in.
  14. It's kinda of like the other company down in that area named "Medix," but doesn't have any paramedics working for them.
  15. Weaving in and out of traffic is dangerous regardless of speed. Therefore it can't be used as an argument that speed, in itself, is dangerous.
  16. No, it's not your fault. I found the website through Google and it does the same thing that every other group pushing an agenda does. It cites a "study" but doesn't actually provide a citation.
  17. Meh, if the Canadian Safety Council wants to have any sort of authority, then it should cite it's studies and not some random "A 19XX study showed" bull crud. Oh, and this is supposedly about safety, not about being green.
  18. So I guess we should ban young males from driving and everyone from driving at night. Oh, and which speed is safer, 65 or 80 MPH given the following conditions: Speed limit: 65. Speed of traffic:80-90 depending on lane of travel. Heck, that study didn't even look at the cause of accident, but the correlation of factors with fatality. I've yet to see a car going over the speed limit spontaneously crash and burn. Maintaining good situational awareness, proper buffer room, and using turn signals is much more important than speed. All the factors that contribute to fatalities don't mean a thing if you don't get into an accident.
  19. Stay out of Southern California then. If you go 65 in any lane but the right lane on most freeways in So Cal outside of rush hour you will be run over by a car going 80 or faster. Speed limits in most areas are set around the 75th percentile of the speed of uncontrolled traffic as determined by a traffic study. Speed doesn't kill. Differences in speed and poor driving (if you're not aware of what the car 4-5 cars in front of you is doing, then you're a bad driver) kill.
  20. It's New York. Maybe they thought that New Yorkers were used to it by now.
  21. Sorry, but you've got it completely backwards. Your genes don't change because you got a higher education. As far as the ethnicity of CEOs, I honestly don't know or know of very many CEOs. The CEOs who I do know of are generally known for doing something bad. Do you really want a black Martha Steward or the CEO of Geico to be black?
  22. http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/
  23. Well, to play devil's advocate, the National Guard pays people to play weekend warrior (outside of war time) and the CAP pays people to play with airplanes.
  24. The best comedy aren't jokes. They're simple observation on the state of humanity.
  25. but but but fire leaves carbon behind and we're carbon based being. I just don't understand the problem... /sarcasm
