  1. Why is the patient on calcium channel blockers?
  2. At my old company we had MDTs similar to this: It displayed essentially the same information that we received on our pagers (we were dispatched primarly by pager with pager and MDT giving us run number, pick up, destination, pickup time, chief complaint. Pager also had patient's name and room number) which made it easier to read than reaching down and getting the pager out. In addition it had the enroute/on scene/transporting/etc already programed in, which helped to cut down on a lot of radio transmissions.
  3. I'd be willing to bet the patient does care. Would you rather be taken care of by a medical professional or a red neck straight out of deliverance? Besides that, there's the issue of pride. If you want to do this job (even as a hobby), then you need to dress the part every time.
  4. SJA=Saint John's Ambulance.
  5. Wow, I remember this from middle school.
  6. Congrats
  7. ^ That was policy at my old work and I ended up getting into the habit of having my lights on all the time, regardless of if I was at work or not.
  8. Well, you know, manipulation has shown to be on par with drug therapy, so I do believe an office visit is merited.
  9. Advisory for residents of the communities surrounding Pomona. I will be attending Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine starting next year. You have been warned!
  10. Is BLS defined based on patient status or who transported? I'd hate to have someone say that an acute PE is a basic call because a basic unit was dispatched and ALS either wasn't available or further than the hospital.
  11. There seems to be one of these every few years. I'm kinda of surprised that an AED isn't standard at every diamond used for organized leagues for this very reason. Hell, if it isn't a location that has regular games (like a travel league), then just equip all of the umpires with one to take along with the rest of their equipment.
  12. You don't learn how to change an O2 bottle or operate a gurney though life experience or maturity. Furthermore, those things should be able to be fixed in less than 10 minutes. Sure, shame on the school for not properly training its students, but I have a hard time buying arguments like those as a reason to set a higher age limit or require work as an EMT-B. There are plenty of EMT-Bs who can barely lift a stretcher or change an O2 tank.
  13. Woo hoo.
  14. So is it a bad thing that I still have PMs from when the site had reputation points? I know the feeling. Time to start spamming the non-EMS forum.
  15. Police=America's Finest Fire fighters=America's Bravest Paramedics=America's Smartest.
  16. True, but paramedics who provide tactical services are still EMT-Ps. They don't become an EMT-Tactical just because they are associated with a police service, regardless of any additions to their scope. The OP specifically used the term EMT-T, which is misrepresentation since no EMT-T level exists.
  17. No state has an EMT-T level that I know of. Anyone who thinks that because they work with a swat team means that they can make up levels (cough EMT-T) should lose their license along with all the other medics who think that attending the CCEMT/P course means that their certification is now CCEMT-P (unless you live in one of the handful of states that has an actual CC cert).
  18. "Replying to To Go National Registry Or Not" I think a better question to ask than "Should I get NREMT certification" is "Why shouldn't I get NREMT certification?" Compared to all of the other costs for EMS certification, I can't really see why not. From what I've seen, the cost of NREMT is just a drop in the bucket.
  19. Who ever smelt it dealt it. Who ever denied it applied it.
  20. Granted. You now have 1 million Zimbabwe Dollars. 1 US Dollar = 37,456,777 Zimbabwe Dollar I wish my job didn't start at 5am.
  21. Oh, I guess we don't really need a border patrol then. /head desk.
  22. Yea, there are check points all along the Southern border for no reason at all. Reason for a chase? How about the fact that they are criminals. I think breaking the law is generally the reason why police chase any suspect. Oh, and most illegals don't go to prison. They get deported.
  23. Are you confused over the definition of an illegal immigrant? I guess we could always treat illegal Mexican immigrants like Mexico treats their illegal immigrants...
  24. Reminds me of the old joke, "A van full of illegal immigrants crashes on the US-Mexico border. Where do you bury the survivors?
  25. Dust, I'm surprised you missed this little gem. Oh, so instead of training the adults to handle emergency medical situations, they're just going to leave it to the kids?
