  1. To bad the scoring system here is modeled after Who's Line is it Anyways?
  2. Well, to be fair, my theory is based off of N=1. Of course things like no clear view of the drivers face (there might have been glare) or other technicalities might have been present at that intersection (like one of the required signs being located directly behind a tree).
  3. A/Ox4 dialysis patient more often than not have the following V/S and narrative entry. RR: 16, Pulse: UTO, B/P: UTO. Pulse/BP UTO per patient request/patient comfort. There have been plenty of transports where the patient requested, with no prompt, to not have their v/s taken.
  4. Interesting. In California all red light camera pictures are required to be reviewed by law enforcement prior to the violator being issued a citation. As such, any emergency vehicle driving emergently would never (shouldn't) be issued a citation. I have a theory, though, that they end up throwing out most emergency vehicle pictures regardless of private v public, emergent v non-emergent.
  5. I watched the first half and have to agree with both McCain winning so far AND nothing substantial has been said by either side. Edit: Actually, the real winner is Jim Lehrer. He's making both candidates look like fools by actually calling them out on not answering the question.
  6. They weren't required where I worked.
  7. I honestly don't think the answer is blowing money on the "little guy" as have been discussed in the last few posts. Furthermore, if we let some of these banks and institutions fail (Fanny and Freddie combined, for example, account for over half the mortgage industry. As another example, AIG has a huge amount of insurance policies), the effects will go well past the mortgage industry. I do agree with government loans to companies. I do agree with increased regulation (albeit the danger will be that the pendulum will swing to over regulation). I do agree with the government seizing some of the companies. I do not agree with the government handing out "free" money to either the companies or private citizens.
  8. Because giving money to the "little guy" who wasn't able to pay his/her debts in the first place is any better than giving it to the companies that made bad bets? Besides, what good is paying off debts if the companies have already failed? Giving money to people who either don't need it (as in not getting the money would cause major problems later) or Joe Blow who already failed at his obligations isn't going to help any if the institutions and companies that the financial system rest upon are no longer standing. Bailing out the idiots who overestimated their own means is definitely not the answer.
  9. So? I'm willing to bet that any facility, regardless of quality (or lack there of) is completely different during any inspection (announced or otherwise. Word will spread quickly). I was a volunteer at a top notch hospital during my undergraduate when it came time for their accreditation (JCAHO) to be renewed. There was a ton of changes that happened for the inspection (e.g. not propping the door to the medication room that's located in the nursing station, moving the patient's ins and outs record away from the door to their room [privacy issue], etc) that were quickly undone when the inspection team left. Similarly, I imagine that the nurses at sub par nursing homes become experts on their patients when an inspection team is on site. The other 364 days of the year, those patients are some other nurse's patient.
  10. He doesn't have a leg to stand on.
  11. Better question. How many people washed their hands and then preceded to pay for the meal prior to eating? (A: evaporation, conduction, convection, radiation) If I'm going to be punished for the faults of another student, I better damn well have the chance to answer for that student as well. As well, I hope that this policy was able to be viewed well before the end of the application/registration period. Gimmicks are definitely a strike against any program in my book and punishing everyone for the failure of a single person is definitely a gimmick.
  12. The problem with the economy right now is the fault of both parties in government. Loose regulations is only half the story because most of those loans would have never been given out in the first place if the government, through regulations as well as with Fannie and Freddy, hadn't been working to get people who should have never been given a loan in the first place a loan. The only reason why lenders gave out subprime mortgages is because they knew that they could always sell them to Freddie and Fannie, two government chartered companies. There's a reason why over half of all mortgages are owned by those two companies. Loose regulations didn't cause the problem, but did make it worse by allowing investors to bet on mortgages, hence making a small problem (subprime mortgages are a very small percentage of the mortgage market) a very large problem.
  13. To be fair, bridges and roads aren't free or cheap. The money has to come from somewhere, even if it's just shuffled around on paper.
  14. I've heard that they've released a mug shot of the perp [spoil:fcaca73b26][/spoil:fcaca73b26]
  15. Did you check the "Disable BBCode in this post" box?
  16. You wouldn't want a neurosurgeon who hasn't operated in a year to operate on you. You wouldn't want a car mechanic who hasn't worked on a car in over a year to work on your car. You wouldn't want a lawyer who hasn't had a case in over a year. Why would you want a "paramedic" who hasn't worked as a paramedic in over a year?
  17. Wouldn't color be the least important at airports anyways? There isn't nearly the traffic (albeit airplane vs firetruck=no winners) like what is found in urban and suburban areas and the fire trucks would still be at the mercy of the ground controllers anyways (even if the ground controllers would do everything possible to expedite any necessary transit). I can't believe that a fire fighter who causes an incursion onto an active runway would last very long regardless of what the unit is responding to.
  18. Serious question time. If the bougie is so great and all, why not use it for all intubations and not just ones where direct visualization has failed? Am I missing something (most likely), or is it a case of tradition?

    Euthanasia

Wow, I really should have seen a reductio ad Hitlerum post coming, but I didn't.
  20. How about they suck because they perpetuate the "Us vs Management" culture that's good for no one.
  21. Income/property tax credit? I thought volunteering was supposed to be for the community. :- /

    Am I a poser?

If the system is at the point where it would fail for the lack of a single EMT-B, then yes, I would call you a hypocrite, but I doubt that your area is in such a situation though. Furthermore, your education and understanding would allow you to go forth and proclaim the Gospel of EMTCity.
  23. So? A face plant into an ambulance shouldn't require a board and collar. If it does, then parents around the world are guilty of neglect for not calling 911 because their kid tripped and fell.
  24. Tradition: Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid.
  25. Yes, because people who's lively hood revolves around providing prehospital medical care are obviously less dedicated, even though they have much more on the line than a volunteer. Besides, if one could argue that, then why aren't people arguing that? I don't care what someone could argue for. I care what they are arguing for.
