'ello Poppet! Welcome back

Anyone who's seen Schindler's List knows that given the right placement, bullets can multitask. Besides, I have a better use. Doesn't Japan need someone to go take a look inside a reactor pit right about now?

Helpful picture of the difference between handegg and football...

Nope outside my trip to Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago to interview at Nova/South Eastern.

I think the problem is that most high schools offer different tracts and you end up with a segregated population of students. Most of my friends and acquaintances in high school were college bound, hence taking math up to pre-calc or AP calc in high school, bio/chem/physics (if not AP bio/chem/physics), the AP history (AP Euro/US/Gov&Econ). Did we make up a majority? No, but a sizable number of students were in the college bound track. However, it seemed like it since everyone we knew essentially were taking those courses.

Here ya go: http://tinyurl.com/4z9347n I would just hotlink it, but Fortune Cities generally doesn't like that.

I believe he's intrigued by the manufacturer due to the lack of a curb side door. Hence he's trying to find out who made the box, such as Wheeled Coach, Leader, Road Rescue, Demers, Creastline, and many others. Unfortunately, I can't find any identifying marks on who converted the Ford chassis to an ambulance.

Is your thesis that we need to protect American culture from change? If culture in general is always changing (hence why Italy doesn't worship Roman Gods anymore or the culture of America today and in the 1770s are different), then what is there to protect? Hence a law protecting culture from change is about as useful as one that tries to prevent the spin of the earth. Debate is just a form a civil arguing. We see one group practicing a part of their culture and another group scared for no reason. Again, what threat is the hijab? What threat is the non-sword? Besides, of course, the fact that they are different? I have yet to hear anyone calling for ALL American women to wear Muslim dress, or everyone to wear Jewish dress, or for all men to wear Sikh dress. I do see, however, people who are needlessly uncomfortable because people of those religions wear the clothing mandated by those religions. Your point besides Godwinning this thread? Is a blade that cannot be unsheathed really a blade? Can't blades below a specific length be carried in public anyways? After all, no one is going to jail for carrying a box cutter or pocket knife. Regardless, why should we be concerned about otherwise law abiding citizens carrying weapons? The police, for a variety of reasons, are not there to protect us as individuals, so shouldn't we be allowed to take affirmative steps to protect ourselves, with arms if necessary? Of course I'm also all for conceal carry of fire arms. How is a hijab (which is the issue with the original poster) about a double standard? Should everyone be required to wear business formal so that we're now equal? Does not the followers of non-Christian religions deserve mutual respect as Christians? What would happen if the government decided to ban wearing crucifixes, since apparently, it's not mutual respect for non-Christian religions to wear symbols of their religion? Are you seriously comparing murder to religious dress? Seriously, leaping from Sikh and Muslims clothing (of which you picked an extreme of an extreme. I see hijabs constantly, but have never seen a burqa in the US. If a woman choose to wear one, than that is her prerogative) is an extremely large leap. So, let's ban Christianity, not because some females choose to wear head covering in church (which is bad enough, discrimination and all), but because some members choose to blow up abortion clinics, just like some members of other religions perform honor killings. Oh, and let's ban American culture because of gangs too. After all, American culture idolizes things like the mob during prohibition. Women in free societies are free to not follow any specific religion just as men are. Yes, there may be negative consequences when it comes to dealing with their family, but it is what it is and isn't limited to just Middle Eastern religions (After all, let's ban the Amish since they shun members who freely leave their society), Why is the assumption that non-Christians are necessarily foreigners? At what point does a family line because American even if they aren't Christian?

I think this is actually an excellent training video. There's enough right/wrong to pick out as a training exercise. You see a dramatic increase in CPR quality between bystanding and EMS, even when bystanders where providing compressions instead of EMS (namely the police officer) Excellent scene control. Bonus points for the bystanders already on scene holding the privacy sheets. Good reassessment, including GCS. OPA with the BVM. Use of the scoop for extrication. The physician near the end is briefing her team, which could be used as a good example of a hand off report. Too much driving on the wrong (left) side of the road. Gloves in the ambulance. For the love of all that is good and holy, pull the patient forward!

Would you argue that the culture changed drastically over the years immediately preceding and after the American Revolution? If not, and culture is some mystical thing that should never change, then shouldn't that still be considered part of our culture?
-
Because the US is supposed to be better than that? Because it's just as stupid to feel "scared" over a non-knife or the fact that someone is wearing a hat on their own accord? Because culture is never static and always changing? American culture now in no way resembles that of the 1700s, 1800s, or 1900s and has very little to do with people who take tolerance to the extreme. Are the Italians complaining because they no longer worship Roman Gods as a state religion? ...because all [insert religion here] Orthodox are immigrants? Neither does killing witches, yet we still had the Salem Witch Trials. Oh, and since we're on the Muslim Bashing Game, plenty of fundamentalist Christian religions are in no way compatible with the moral majority of this country. Can we kick them out to while we're at it on the same pretense used for the Muslims? To the OP, have you considered simply contacting a local imam and asking if he would be willing to set up a presentation (heck, CME time) for the local EMS services? You can do the same with other religions/groups such as Jews and the issues of the Sabbath or how to competently work with the LGBT crowd.

If the only thing I know is that the patient has a sore neck, but is actively refusing spinal immobilization AND is looking to get checked out in the ED, then, baring anything else, no probably doesn't. However, the information presented is limited AND certain non-verbal cues makes a big different when assessing patients. I do not think that everyone who suffers a traumatic incident either needs to go to the hospital, and those that do do not necessarily need an ambulance. There's a fine line between having an abundance of caution and crying wolf. Especially when it comes to lines like, "maybe you have something else that I can't detect." Ok, you can't detect it. What are you planning on doing about it? It's not like he's going home to sleep it off. He's going to the hospital. If the only realistic treatment option necessary is transport, does the form of transport really matter?
-
Why does he need supplemental oxygen? Did he request pain control? Was it offered? Can you do a 12 lead? If not, how were you planning on monitoring the chest tightness? What underlying possible injuries do you think could have developed that you could have treated?

I consider it a professional courtesy to not bring up my work if I get in trouble. I find it sad that police officers, fire fighters, and paramedics would put other people into a bad situation (the proverbial "Hey, why are you giving me a ticket, we're on the same side") due to their own, perfectly preventable, actions. I also think that if enforcement of the law is based, in part, by employment, that that law should not be enforced for everyone. If police officers don't want speeding tickets, then the answer is not to speed.

Unions: Because job security is more important than doing a good job. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-education-reform-real-or-fake_537368.html
-
...because union members don't get laid off? What about all the fields that don't have labor unions. How many physicians do you know that are out of work?
-
I've never held a union job and never felt mistreated by my employers. If I ever did, however, I always maintain the choice to simply not work there. No one has the right to have employment, but thankfully some states do recognize that workers have a right not to finance the goon squad.
-
You wanted to compare paychecks with the anti-union people. I agreed that we should compare your paycheck to the average wage for my non-union field. You agreed and tried to claim that paramedics make more than physicians. You never limited the comparison of paychecks simply to non-union paramedics. I'm actually comparing to just tariffs in general. Countries don't like to have their goods taxed more just because the other country makes it too and will generally respond by placing tariffs of their own.
-
Paramedics in Canada make more than physicians? However, how much do those workers make after the unions get done destroying the companies from the inside out? I'd rather make slightly less an hour for a stable job than make slightly more, but be out of work when the company folds. Tariffs and the like have a strange way of biting countries in the butt. It's sort of a win the battle, lose the war issue.
-
Compare paychecks? Sure, I'll be happy to compare the paycheck for what a non-union job in my field compared to a union job in your field.

...so UK apparently have their fair share of crazies as well? Shocking. You do realize, though, that government crackdown on free speech generally ends up giving groups more credence in the long run (what's so horrible that the government doesn't want me to know?) instead of letting themselves show everyone just as crazy as they really are?

The requirements and licensure for EMTs and paramedics in the US falls to the individual states, including issues of reciprocity. Some states allow licensed health care providers such as physicians and registered nurses to essentially just take the test for that level, others don't allow any professional reciprocity, and the rest falls somewhere in between. Of course, an important note is that these require current licensure, which may be an issue for you. My suggestion would be to contact both the state medical board to see if they are willing to license you as a physician, and if you want to follow the route of going into EMS, contact the state EMS board or agency and see if they are willing to work with you.

This is along the lines of what I'm thinking. Unlike the rest of the body, a higher oxygen concentration in the lungs results in vasodilation. Since the same volume of blood has to move through the lungs as the rest of the body, if it starts backing up due to high resistance, then the heart has to pump more in order to increase the pressure to over come the resistance. Dilate the vessels and the resistance drops. However, the best place to ask these types of questions is your treating physician.

Does your lifeguard experience count academically towards getting an EMT license? No. Will ambulance companies care that you've work as a life guard past any other non-EMS/non-medical job? Most likely not. Will you able to just be an "ambulance driver?" Nope, prepare to spend at least some time (all time if under 21 due to insurance requirements) as the attendant. As a quick tip since you're exploring this as an option, unless you're very specifically discussing people who only drive (which is essentially only found in rural/volunteer areas, which OC definitely is not) or specifically the crew position, I'd refrain from calling EMTs or paramedics "ambulance drivers." Will you be able to work part time and adjust your schedule during the summer? Probably, but it's going to depend on the company you work for.
