  2. ^ Now that's unfair. He buys carbon offsets from a company he owns to reduce his carbon footprint.
  3. People were being shown it in the library last week before our immuno test. Some things are just plain wrong.
  4. ^ Since when did other governments doing something mean that the US should do it also? I guess Iraq Part 2 was wrong. After all we could be doing what other countries were doing and exploit the oil for food problem. [just an example]
  5. Try looking up 2 girls, 1 cup, and your view of the interweb might change.
  6. I want to know where that happens. It might finally give me a chance to use those damn hemostats that people said were worth the investment. [spoil:28b5b35244]/sarcasm[/spoil:28b5b35244]
  7. I'm surprised that there are services that only do non-emergent transfers. I would imagine that most SNFs would end up calling for their normal transport provider unless the patient was actually at deaths door [death's driveway can still be handled by the IFT crew though ] Not that it matters, but I guess that I worked at a psuedo-EMS service then.
  8. How about starting him off on the part of his EMT course book about shock? You can't fix stupid.
  9. Yep, Katrina was global warming. The fact that New Orleans is a coastal city below sea level had nothing to do with it. Kinda of like how the California wild fires this year is global warming too, even though at least one was arson and the other was accidental [kid playing with matches].
  10. ^ You mean like the founder of the Weather Channel? http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6130_102-0.htm...ssageID=2625318
  11. You know, if someone doesn't know the difference between 'know' and 'no' then there is a problem. Honestly, I don't buy the argument that "Well, its the interwebs so i dont need no know proper grammer and me save time by dropping letters!!!!111oneone1!" (misspellings and grammar errors in the prior statement are an intentional hyperbole to illustrate the point). Typing like that makes the poster look like an idiot and the reason that EMS books are written at a middle school level. It might just be two letters, but even a 5th grader knows the difference between 'know' and 'no.'
  12. 1. I honestly can't answer your question because I don't use a PDA. 2. The word is "know" not "no."
  13. There's more to EMS than lighting up. I couldn't imagine doing only non-emergent calls for any amount of time, even if the only emergency calls were SNF -> ER calls.
  14. I don't think that it's fair to compare CCTs (hospital to hospital or hospital to sub acute [vent dependent patients]) with SNF to doctors office or SNF to dialysis clinic. That said, I find it rather odd for an ambulance company to have absolutely zero emergency calls [even if it's SNF->ER, non-911 "emergency" calls]. Sure, if you're looking for trauma and car crashes, then sure, you won't run any "emergency" calls. Sure, most of these type of "emergency" calls are not really emergent, but you will run into either weird [so, Mr. Jones, your arm has been cold, numb, and pale since you woke up this morning and you had surgery last week?] or truly emergent [Hey, Phil, mind trying to get a BP for me just to make sure? Yea, I was getting something around 60/30 too].
  15. Here's a question then. Are companies that run SNF "emergency" [nursing home to ER] calls, but lack any 911 contracts [either primary or backup contracts that are actually utilized], still considered a part of the EMS system?
  16. Since we're posting videos about our professionalism, who can forget this gem brought to us from the state of Pennsylvania?
  17. Symptoms fit so far (vomiting, declining LOC, I'm sure I'm missing some because the course was focused on the mechanism more) with a commnity infection consistant with a viral infection. The parents at this time don't seem to be the best historians since they seem to be adding things every 5 minutes or so. Also, (browsing though a few different websites), it seems that it's not just ASA, but salicylic acid in general [http://www.reyessyndrome.org/aspirin.htm] that is related to Reye's. This includes pepto bismol. Besides, I think it would be cool if something I learned about a few weeks ago was a solution to the scenario. Edit: grammar, clarifications
  18. Reye's is a multi-factal mitochondria associated encephalomyopathy involving children, viral infections, and aspirin. Symptoms can include vomiting, coma, hepatomegaly, and hypoglycemia. Mitochondria related etiology mostly involves disruption in the mitochonria protein import complexes.
  19. Just wondering, in case I missed somehting, is there any reason why it couldn't be Reye's Syndrome?
  20. If she can add and subtract, then we can multiply.
  21. Before anyone gets too excited, please notice the 2 year bump. That is all.
  22. /me sees the 7 month bump and sighs.

Wow. It's one thing to use the tired and busted old line of, "It doesn't matter, it's on the interweb," but that post is full of English composition fail. No one is going to ask for research grade proper English [commonly used slang and contractions, for example, are fine. Be really careful with acronyms though because different people might have different meanings of them. An example would be PCR being taken as polymerase chain reaction versus patient care report], but for the love of god, show your shift key some love. Your comma key is begging for some loving too.
  24. I remember being told about HAM during EMT class [LA Co medic taught the course]. I always figured that if you needed something to remind you about asking about medical history, allergies, and medications then EMS might not be the place for you.
  25. The problem is that there's a long range of conditions that are an automatic disqualifier if your company/state (California, for example) requires you to have a DOT physical (green DOT card). Your PMD doesn't have a choice to "clear" you or not, and I believe seizure activity is one of them.
