  1. I'm sorry, I guess assuming possible spinal injury and keeping the column as immobilized as possible makes sense to me.
  2. Why not, because I've successfully applied learned skills in First Aid? What the hell? Everyone else I know took the classes and never applied it. I saw the blood, I saw the blue lips, and I acted perfectly according to my instructions; my actions have save two lives, excuse me for bragging a bit. I want more instructions, I want more protocol. I want to do it again, because I did it well.
  3. If some would explain to me why this is such a joke, I would appreciate it.
  4. I have a pretty basic understanding of biology and first aid, and my first aid has been put to the test twice. I just want to perfect real world first aid. On those two occasions, it was quite a rush. It's also a very useful skill.
  5. So this is out of the ordinary? I mean I've personally ressucitated a drowning victim, I've saved a victim a a farm accident (hand ripped off by a PTO shaft) from bleeding to death by blocking the artery at the pressure point and then using a a tourniquet. So what do you guys get paid for? ISU public safety are ridiculous. I used to date a dispatcher, and have gotten drunk with my arresting officers. I blew a .92 and a .85. But yep, it's 48 oz. (my former limit at the bar) and it's 2 DUI's. I guess I'll back off. I make money farming, I just want the training.
  6. Well my Dad was a volunteer, and he was talking about hooking up IV's, shooting up stabbing victims with morphine, stitching up wide open wounds, etc. Maybe it's cuz I'm from a more rural area, maybe he was telling some tales. I don't think they'd give a fancy symbol to ambulance drivers. I mean, what the hell do you learn in two years of school? how to drive an ambulance fast? I learned how to strap someone to a board in a half hour.
  7. I was in a college town, and blew less than .1 percent each time. Thats about 3 pints per arrest. I was a lifeguard, got my frist aid merit badge in scouts, and have butchered chickens and cattle. If I haven't disqualified myself, I'd like to know. If there's some kind of rule about it (no drunk driving charges ever, none in the last 3 years) I'd like to know.
  8. First of all, I'm from Iowa. I'm thinking about starting EMT training this fall. My major concern is that I've got two drunk driving charges on my record, one in October of 04, and the other in June of 05. I was wondering if this would disqualify me from service. I'm mainly interested in learning to stabilize massive trauma. Any insight into the Iowa scene would help as well, pay-wise, culture-wise, etc. Thanks.
