  1. LMAO!! LMAO!!! What a tool! What a tosser! That bloke leads a sad, depressing, strange life. You should look at the rest of his videos… He had no life. In one of the he goes on about being normal and free from mental illness, reality check please! I wonder how much his being paid?
  2. Here in Aussie your standard first aider can give paracetamol, ant acids, Aspirin, oral glucose ect ect. If you do the asthma course you give Ventolin. If you do the meds course you give Penthrane, GTN tablets, Nebulised salbutamol. In some states you can carry epi but in mine you can only ‘assist’ the patient.
  3. lol I suppose it also depends on how much you drink.
  4. Just out of curiosity SouthernJess and I want to know what would happen?
  5. Over here in Aussie I think the paramedics do a bit of rescue training. I’ve seen them put on a harness and abseil down a hole or cliff. I think a few states even have rescue paramedics like SCAT in NSW. Defiantly the Aeromeds have it.
  6. Right now my first aid division has a Ford Van decked out as a responsey type vehicle and a Toyota Van decked out to be a mobile first aid room. Hopefully in the not to distance future were either getting a Merc Sprinter or Toyota 4x4. Our next door divisions all have GMCs, Sedans and Toyota 4x4 that we borrow from time to time. Fire wise we have a Mack truck Tanker, Mack truck pumper and a Toyota Hilux command 4x4.
  7. Scene safety. Pressure immobilization. Pain relief. SAMPLE. Monitor vitals. 02. Utilize any anti venom gear you might carry. How far has she fallen? C Collar? Backboard? Other injuries? Bleeding? HEMS or road? More info plz lol!
  8. I don't want to sound like a whacker or anything but can someone give me like a product review on statpacks. Reason being that a sports medical committee has recommended the bags and before we go out and buy 15 of them for our local sporting clubs I want the low down. I’ve had a look on their website and like the look of the Backup packs. Any info would be great! Cheers guys n gals.
  9. I think you guys should! This APEC thing sounds like more damn trouble than what its worth. 88 Bucks a week! What a joke! Vic ambos have striked a few time, they always get what they want (most of the time). Do it!
  10. lol it’s any wonder why you guys are always complaining about lack of respect towards emergency services over there… You earn the name of ‘tanker wanker’ if you do anything like that here.
  11. Stupidity! What idiots. Here in Australia if it’s to hot then the sports trainer has the legal right to cancel the event. I did this at the start of the year at football pre session, I made them go to the local pool and do swimming exercise instead of running around the field. I guess they thought they were kinda cool, I mean calling all the ambulances in the area how cool do they look… tossers. I hope someone decides to take legal action.
  12. Well a paramedic or ED nurse would be cool (hopefully starting next year!!) I guess something in the medical field. I don’t mind sports medicine, exercise/fitness stuff ect. Otherwise a Career Firefighter or youth worker.
  13. What about green? It's the international colour of medical. My services overalls are green and our safety tabards are bright yellow and green.
  14. In Australia the legal drinking age is 18. There’s nothing anyone can do about underage drinking. It’s getting really bad in Aussie Land. Being a 17 year old my self I underage drink at least 3 times a month, been doing it since I was about 15. I know the risks, I’ve ran Party Safe education programs with school; I’ve dealt with all sorts of underage drinking jobs on EMS duty. Kids pay no attention to the police officer standing up the front ranting on about alcohol and the law; they make jokes and rude remarks. In today’s day and age all that matters is what others think of you, hence underage drinking is seen as ‘extremely cool’ so everyone does it, if you don’t you’re seen as socially retarded. You’re a ‘hero’ if you’re the first to pass out. The thing that’s worrying me is younger kids are starting to drink, last weekend I helped a 12 year old who’d passed out. At every party now there’s a little group of ‘hardcore’ kids standing in the corner drinking. Cops don’t care, there sick of it. Parents well most kids lie to them, they don’t really care about the consequences as long as they’ve gotten total smashed and had a good time who cares what they think, besides if you get in trouble you can get smashed again next weekend and just forget about your parents. Lower the age, raise the age, it won’t matter. Remember most teens are ‘above’ the law lol. Off topic but fake ID is way outta control, so many kids have one.
  15. I haven’t had experience with that brand but generally they have a release pin on either side so it splits in half and slips off or you can adjust the size to make it bigger so it slips off over their head, some have cap screws, some have quick releases.. I think helmets and braces are good idea. Horses for coursers but sometimes I don’t take the helmet or braces off, if I see it’s providing pretty good support to the neck and head then why bother making more movement.
  16. I agree, who cares… really…. It’s up to you if you wana wear a belt. If you have to wear one but don’t want to then that’s something you’ll have to take up with the powers at be. For me. 02 wrench is in the 02 bags and there’s even a spare, sheers can be located in pretty much every kit-glove box of truck-cupboards, the only knife we have would be in the welfare bag, radio either stays in the truck or sits in my back pocket, I have a pair of gloves in my pocket-gloves are also in every kit-several boxes in the truck and even a box up front with us, multi tool-we have a full tool box in the truck, keys in the pocket or glove box, phone in the pocket or glove box, pager in the pocket or glove box. In Australia I have never seen anyone in the EMS or medical field wear a belt. I’m not even sure if we sell them here. The only time I have a Maglight with me is when we do standbys at rave parties and its more for clobbering drugged up psychos in the head when your responding though the bush at 2am… Everything I’ll ever need is in the kits. Some of the sports trainers I work with at football wear bum bags that have tapes, scissors, oils, blood treatment gear, asthma meds, cold spray ect… Its easier to carry a little bag than running out there seeing what’s wrong then running back to the bench then running back out there.
  17. I don’t really understand what you mean mate? Since it’s a yellow box, would they be providing onsite medical care?
  18. Is it a burn? It kinda look like its exploded.
  19. This new drink called 'Pulse' is an energy drink mixed with alcohol. So it not only dehydrates you and makes you intoxicated but gives you that extra burst of energy so you can keep on dancing (or other things) all night. So a can of this Pulse is just the same as mixing Redbull with vodka. I’ve seen kids mixing crushed Paracetamol with alcohol. “I have a headache, I’ve been drinking and dancing for hours, can I have a Panadol?” No! Go die in a hole and drink some water.
  20. No but the kid’s get the little cans and put them into 600ml bottles.
  21. I’m not sure what it’s like in the US but in Australia your not obliged to speed. L&S is just a warning device telling people to get outta the road. Drive to the speed your comftable driving at.
  22. Don’t worry about it mate. I’ve driven our vehicles around a few times. We don’t drive emergency on the roads cause were only a standby service but pushing your way though 25,000 people or dodging MX bikes is pretty fun. It’s just like driving a normal car. I’m a farm boy so I was brought up driving tractors, trucks, cars, motorbikes, paddock bashes ect. I got to take the fire truck for a test drive last weekend… Now that’s scary! You’ll be right champ.
  23.  LMAO... That is a pretty cool Diagnosis though! Since everyone is clueless I shall divulge. He’d only had 2 hours sleep the night before, had been drinking quiet heavily. At lunch time just before he went to play football he decided in all his wisdom to take: -6 ‘No Doze’ tablets (Caffeine, Nartonic Acid, Thiamine Hydrochloride) -2 600ml bottles of Red Bull (packed with Caffeine and Sugar) -300ml bottle of Pulse (Like and alcohol energy drink also packed with caffeine) As well as being exhausted, dehydrated and having nothing in his stomach he added all that on top. So in the hospital they did a tox screen which showed all that caffeine, that’s when the truth came out – Immediately pushed a crap load of fluids though. His ECG showed some weird rhythm so they did a cardioversion a bit later on. All in all his a pretty lucky boy.
  24. dysphagia he had trouble swallowing.
