Scorpy_CFS- If you’re a fully qualified paramedic then there should be heaps of jobs available. Industrial companies are always screaming out for paramedics. I know of a company in NT who do open cut mining, there always looking for medics. It’s a damn good job as well, pays extremely well and they really look after you. There’s also a few private companies that always look for medics,EMT’s or responders. I know your aiming to get into SAAS but maybe you need to look outside the square. Maybe SA don’t have a need for more paramedics but other states certainly do. RAV have 8 paramedic positions and a few MICA positions vacant at the moment…

I nead your opinions on a MVA call that I went on.Thankx

I don’t know what your getting at, you’ve got an ambulance on scene with backup and rescue on there way??, what’s the problem? Does it really matter which service gets there first, as long as someone arrives on scene? Well you’ve got that EMT maintaining C-spince, which is a good start. I’d make sure scene is safe, control bleeding, collar, 02, maybe some pain relief wait for rescue to arrive then extract the pt. Make sure the pt who’s up and about gets checked out (is there something your not telling us about this patient?) Other wise it seems like a relatively normal call from the information you’ve given us. Spill the beans what happened? -
Ohh right, so I'm guessing that you don’t have little storage spots like these photos?? Its just all on the stretcher... Over here our stretcher are kept clear, we only keep pillows and blankets on them.
-
Just a quick question, do you guys have all your bags and 02gear strapped onto the stretcher?

Thanks everyone for replying, I've got the infomation I need... Thanks

Oh god……… What ever you think I look like, I believe in working smarter not harder. Let me refer to my other posts. “Main reason we carry all that stuff, we cover a lot of standby events, you don’t always have the ambulance to take with you or areas can be quiet difficult to access, having everything in the 1 bag and ready to go is good for us. Sometimes it might be a 15min walk into the bush or something along those lines so it’s just easier to take one bag. Also if it’s a multiple cas situation, there’s enough gear to go round.” Let me give you an example of a situation I was in the other day. I was providing standby first aid at Thumpercross which is MX bikes going into the bush. A rider came off, it was a 15 min walk, and the terrain is inaccessible for an ambulance, so 2 of us take the 02 kit, collars, spineboard and First aid kit. If you wana carry your flash battery operated suction and airways bag, pedi 02 kit and what ever else then be my guest it’s just more you have to carry. Why not just carry the one bag with everything in it?? What happens if you arrive on scene to find there’s 3 patients? Your going to have to wait another 15mins for another 02 to get there. And bonus our 02 and First Aid kits turns into backpacks.

WOW that’s really unprofessional, but kind of hard not to giggle at. I can’t believe they put his address in the article lol.

Thanks for you feedback everyone, much appreciated. taff3432- Main reason we carry all that stuff, we cover a lot of standby events, you don’t always have the ambulance to take with you or areas can be quiet difficult to access, having everything in the 1 bag and ready to go is good for us. Becksdad- We carry extra hoses and adapters mainly if we cant access a patient or if there in a confined space. I’ve only used the extension hoes once at speedway, you can sit the 02 kit on the roof out of everyone’s way and it allows more working space in the car. We carry pocket masks purely for a backup, there’s been a situation were the members were called to an arrest, ripped the BVM out of the bag and it ripped. You can always trust pocket masks lol. I ask this question as were having an equipment up grade and I just wanted some different views on what we should carry before we go out and start buying. Thanks again guys!

do you carry anything when your off duty?

Wana know a scary thing? Until today I had an ambulance sitting in my driveway lol. I’m not joking, a 4x4 Toyota troopy lol. But it’s not mine, just my X!!-volley services. -
Somedic- What I think the Doc is getting at, it’s ok to ask for help. Everyone gets stuck once in a while and it’s nice to know that there is backup there if you need it. Let me give you an example of what an MRT would get called to. A MVA were a patient is timed critical; they need hospital/surgery within 15mins. There pinned by both legs and recuse would take an hour to remove the patient. MRT would be called to surgically remove the patient’s leg to allow quicker transport to hospital. Would you rather loss a leg or die?? As the doc said there called in ‘extreme trauma’ We had a MRT at MX once, had a patient with an extreme spinal injury and the medics wanted a second option on how to maynover/lift the patient. It’s not because there stupid or under educated but they wanted advice from someone with more experience and expertise in the area. If the resources were available then why wouldn’t you take ever opportunity to get someone out there who knows better and can provide better patient care, you never know you might learn something? Most of the time doctors don’t get that ‘look out I’m a doctor’ attitude, most of them will explain what there doing or guide you through a more advanced treatment. But really if a doctor told you to get out of the way then do it, the patient needs more advanced care than what most EMS people can provide. Ambulance control= Communications/control centre, were all the high ranking officers and decision makers hang out.

the coolest thing that ever happened on a call!
Timmy replied to madmedic8522's topic in Funny Stuff
Well it wasn’t so much to do with treating a patient. I was doing first aid for the crowd at crusty demonds, I decided to take a walk through the pits at interval and Levi Sherwood asks me for a bandaid for his blister!!! Levi Sherwood!! Only the greatest FMX youngest rider eva!! Anyways we got talking and next thing I know he's introducing me to some of the other FMX guys. Only the greatest moment of my life!! -
Ok this is sooo stupid lol!! My first unresponsive patient was at a concert, they crowd surfed him over the barrier and the security lady layer him on the ground. I rocked up and said “OMFG is he breathing” She gave me this weird look and said “how the f*%k would I know, you’re the medic, fix him”
