EMS Event coverage: I carry a pair of gloves, penlight, pen, my mobile phone (in my pocket, not on my belt in 1 of those big pouch thingos) and a portable radio (when we need one). I’ve never had the need to carry anything else. Football: I have a pouch that clips onto my belt that holds shears and trainers scissors, a blood towel and a pair of gloves. Also my phone. We also have bumbags with medical stuff in them but dont get my started on bumbags lol. Motocross: Pair of gloves and my phone, everything else is in the kits on the ATV.

HOW MANY CERTS DOES YOUR STATE RECOGNIZE
Timmy replied to medicdsm's topic in General EMS Discussion
In Australia we have National Recognized Training. Most training organizations that sign up have to teach within certain guidelines. Once the training organization is recognized by National Recognized Training they get to print the little logo in the corner of there certificates, this is then recognized any were in Australia. Sorry I can’t explain it better. Feel free to ask questions. -
I want one!!!

Well I think restocking, cleaning, washing, whatever should be a joint effort. It is in my service, even the doctor get his hand dirty after a long day at MX. It’s a good debrief session and you learn more about the people you work with, in a more relaxed environment. There seems to be a lot of ‘whatever’ going on between EMT’s and Medics. Some good advice that is was told: You don’t have to socials with your partner, just work as a team when it’s needed. I’m not familiar with EMT and Paramedics in the US but normally in my service the officer in charge calls the shots, they listen to the experienced medics, people trust there decisions, and it all works well. Most of the time decisions are made as a team with everyone putting in there 2cents worth and coming to one decision that everyone agrees with, it works better this way. Why is it people are always power hungry??? I can’t see why we all just can’t work as a team!

Well that’s what I thought while watching them, why double handle?? I’m not sure if it makes a different if there going by chopper? They also fight over equipment lol

Just wondering if people have used vacuum mattress immobilizers before? If so what’s your opinion of them? I saw one used at MX on a serious spinal patient, it seemed to work really well. More Info: http://www.neann.com/vacmat1.htm

It just depends on the call as to what gear we take, if its cardiac then we’d take the defib and 02, neck pain, collars and spine board, minor abrasion, packet of bandaids. We mostly carry blankets and pillows on the bed and just take what we need.

In my service we have massive rotators light bars on top, strobes on the front bullbar, LED’s on the back and sides. The reverse lights and headlights also flash and you can have the hazard lights on if you want... And just to be whackerish the green first aid sign on the front flashes. We get them fitted though Mader which is an Aussie Company.

I don’t see a problem with it. Standing in the corner is all good. As long as you don’t get in the way and leave when your asked to. Ohh and if your partner leaves, go with them lol.

In my state we have a few big Merc trucks. There roll is HAZ MAT/Chemical Attacks ect, they don’t transport patients. We also have big trailers full of gear. But mostly HAZ MAT is a fire bridge matter.

Don’t drop the 02 bottle so it brakes and goes flying across the A&E floor. Be nice to the clinical placement kid! Don’t drive into the ambulance bay with the siren on. I agree with bushy, don’t eat any of the A&E staffs lunch! I know from personal experience lol. Don’t flirt with the overweight nurses, trying to be nice. They take what they can get! Don’t bash the stretcher through the doors and make a big scene like ER. It’s a hospital be quiet lol! Make handovers short, sharp and to the point. Don’t coming running into A&E shouting “I need some help” everyone knows you’ve got a bad patient. Deal with it. Don’t talk about the patients bad points. Eg, “good they stick” you never know were the family is! Finally, don’t talk about medical stuff the time!!! People’s lives don’t revolve around medical stuff. Most people enjoy a change of conversation.

Know the patient report form back the front, side to side and inside out! I hate it when they send a newbie out on duty to a major event, you have a critically injured patient and they sit there, asking random questions like are they male or female while you’re trying to find out what’s wrong with them! Zip the kits up when you’re finished with them! Nothing worse than being called to something, grabbing the kit and it goes all over the ground or into the mud! Turn the 02 kit off when your finished. Check the Heartstart every time you go on duty. When it beeps change the battery! Put the portables on charge when you get back to base. Collar anyone who has neck pain!!!! I hate it when people don’t do this! Make sure the red flag is up at speedway before you drive the ambulance out onto the track  Dustdevil wrote: LOL you wouldn’t wana work for my service. We have to strap everything in the ambulance down including pillows and blankets! Its OH&S lol! It’s not like a pillow is going to cause much damage if we roll the truck.

Well I love EMS/First Aid as you’re always meeting new people, it can be so challenging at times, I’ve done stuff that most 16 year olds could only dream about! I’ve provided first aid at some of Australia’s biggest and most prestigious events. You meet some amazing people who are in the medical field and have some much information and knowledge they share. There’s so much more! I’m payed pretty good to be a sports trainer at our local football club! If you’re aussie you’ll know what I mean when I say, the atmosphere of football is so awesome! The classic stereotype is going to the footy every Saturday, eating a meat pie and harassing the hell out of the umpire, the onfeild brawls as well as the brawls in the crowd.Running out to someone who’s gone down with the crowd going off there head and screaming, that sort of atmosphere is what keeps me going back every Saturday. Everyone’s just so appreciative for everything you do and our junior teams were just incredible this year, they were such a great bunch of kids. Another thing I love about footy is you always know how your patient went at hospital, your responsible for there rehabilitation. I hate it when we treat a patient in EMS and don’t find out if they survived.

It’s very traumatic for some people to see someone injured or in arrest. As Rid said most people don’t wana learn first aid, they’d prefer to stay as far away as possible from any first aid matters. It also can depend on the situation classic example (Bystander Effect) : * Some people are scared to perform first aid in fear they will be sued if they do something wrong. * If there was a crowd and no one was doing anything some people think ‘well if no one else is doing anything why should I?’ * Some people think they’d look like a wanker if they helped someone. Just some info I learnt when I did my psych course. But yeh don’t beat your self up about it! It’s not your fault.

1. People who only care about the brass on the shoulders and collars. 2. Officers that fight over a patient while there dying!

Looking for some input on what radio system a vol agency s..
Timmy replied to ghurty's topic in Equiqment and Apparatus
In my Volley Service we have UHF radios in all the trucks. As I live in a rural area we have HF radios so we can talk to Melbourne but you can also talk to anyone from anywhere in Australia. We also have pagers, mobile phones car kits which give them extra service. We also just got GPS. -
This is what RSPCA and VET ambulances are for!

What was her HX? Any meds? Roughly about how long had she been lying there for? Sounds like she’s in shock or a tad hypothermic. I hate it when you can’t get a pulse lol!
