Thanks for that guys. All 85 first aiders are trainer in Defib, I’m pretty sure that we'll have about 10 - 11 defib teams... There’s 8 first aid posts in the stadium and about 2 out in the grassed area outside. I’m pretty sure they'll have nurses and doctors in the first aid rooms with some paramedics ready if needed in the crowed. We'll have a couple of bike patrols as well as heaps of our normal response teams. For memory I think we average about 1-3 arrests per game. But hopefully all goes well!!! (BTW I have nothing to do with the command of the event, just a shit kicker so Im not sure of what’s, what lol)

I've just found out that I’m one of the 85 first aiders who will be attending the Australian Football League Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. There expecting between 100,000 to 120,000 spectators depending on who gets in. This will be the first time apart from the commonwealth games that the stadium will be packed. As I said there will be 85 first aider a few doctors, nurses and paramedics in attendance also. They just bought 50 new deffibulators to help boost our response times to cardiac arrests. Were normally in attendance of cardiac arrests any were in the stadium within 1 minute of being called. Just a couple of questions do you think its necessary to have that many defibs? and do you think we have enough staff for a max of 120,000 people at one time?

I live in a rural area we do some really great training that relates to farming accidents. We done training in a wheat silo, a patient is trapped in the silo for some reason (eg. heart attack) you have to send a medic down the ladder and help the rescue guys get them out. Its really fun! I also live near a river so we sometimes do some swift water training or rescuing people. Once a year we have a massive mock drill were a paddle steamer I blown up and we have to remove 25 patients while the boat is slowly sinking. ATV mock ups are really good as well. Sending medics into the bush with a map and finding a patient and bring them back to the truck. As someone else has already stated Hazmats are really great as well. Just some ideas.

Im quiet surprised that you guys have never heard of Penthrane! I recon every single paramedic to first aid officer swear by it over here. So Im assuming that you guys use Entonox or something like that? Penthrane is way better and so much more patient friendly and easy to use. But there you go I learn something new very day lol.

Thats motocross guys for yah lol. Your lucky if you got him in the back of the ambo lol. Im a motocross medic and sometimes ride with the boys as well. When they refuse treatment I normally just explain the risks and get them to sign the refused treatment form then its there fault what happends to them next. But i can also see were there comeing from, if your seen with the medic then your sometimes seen as weak. But nywayz. What you did was right.

Just wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with equipment when your with a patient. We just recently got some new gear from ferno (stretcher and 02 reg) First time we had the new gear out on the truck it broke on the same patient lol. 1. We had the patient on the stretcher and it wouldn’t go in the back of the ambo no matter how hard we tried. We ended up collapsing it and then lifting the guy in the back (not good on the back) 2. the 02 regulator didn’t work, I even pulled it apart checked it and put it back on the cylinder, still didn’t work. By this time the patient was just a little angry with us lol. Not bagging out ferno, I love there products must have been a bad day for them lol. But its all fixed now!!

Ok lets keep in mind that im only 16 lol... working standby at motocross with 4 Critical care paramedics. Young kid come off his bike big time LOC, # C-spine, abbdo bleed ect. I normally just carry the bags out there and watch what the medics do, bit of stretcher work, minor treatments ect. I was standing there watching the medics work on him and the guy in charge jumps up and goes Timmy your gana cannulate this guy. So here i am just bout to shove a needle in some kids arm with 4 medics with bout 16 years ems under there belt each looking over my shoulder. Im shacking like all hell, i stick it in and the medic said it was perfect. They pumped the fluid through and his hand started to blow up were the needle was. I missed the vain lol! I was so embarrass but not bad for a first try lol. I ended up meeting this kid at a party a couple of mouths later, we became good mates and he still neva lets me live it down lol

Im form Australia. Been in St John Ambulance for 5 years, Sports Trainer for 4 and just starting red cross, still in school hopefully become a aeromed paramedic one day.

We wear black pants, white shirt, and a black jacket. We also wear green overalls with reflective strips for night and dirty duty’s. Also have 2 tone rain jackets and saftey vests (reflective striping, half fluro yellow and green)

We normally call ours truck or by there call signs... I call our ford ambulance jelly bean as its really small and cramped but a good lill truck to drive. We have an old Toyota truck thats only used if we really need an ambulance we call it rusty for obvious reasons lol

Just a basic list of some stuff they carry in there Kit.

While Im on duty we are required to wear a photo ID card, has your rank, what division your from, bar code, member number ect. We have to wear them around our neck with a lanyard thingy. I hate wearing them but we have too... Also on the back we have usefull phone numbers such as our control center, peer support and duty officer. Our boss says its a good idea to carry them when were off duty as well like if were down the street and an old lady collapses or somthing like that were covered by insurance if we flash our card lol..

Has anyone ever work/had anything to do with the Asterisks guys? There truck and mule thing are an awsume idea. Wish someone would think of something like this in Australia lol...

Not so much injured but got zapped by the HF radio in our truck while on duty... HF radios run on like radion i think... Felt it go throught my fingures then up my arm... Got all checked out by doctors and there was nothing wrong!! Other than that I got my fingure stuck in the strecher bring it out of the truck... thats hurts a little... Oh and droped a D cylinder 02 bottle on my big tow!! :oops:

Im going to explain everything for the last time as I cant be bothered wasting anymore time arguing with people. I was only contributing to the forum and everyone starts to make a big deal out of it! As I said from the start Im a volunteer with Australians largest EVENT FIRST AID SERVICE were not paramedics and we don’t transport patient to hospital! We call in the professional paramedics give a hand over then they go to hospital. In Australia they wouldn’t let you touch an ambulance unless you have been to university. For the guy who brang that stuff up about the Cspine a motocross, although I cant give fluids or provide ASL I can still collar them strap them to a spine board and take them back to the first aid post. And you also stated that first aid cant cure a Cspine fracture well either can anything a paramedic can do... Also to give examples of the life treating situation I was placed in with no adult... On duty at a rave party 7000 people with only 10 adult first aid staff and 1 doctor and 2 cadets. Most people stoned out of the brains. In the 8hrs we work we treated 70 patients with 23 of those requiring emergency care the only reason a cadet team responded was there were no adults available. The patient had OD and was in arrest. I was put in a difficult position, either take the other cadet and go save her or let some security guy stand there and watch her die. Thankfully we saved her with defib and 02 resus gear. As for the trauma centre our nearest one is about a 3 hour drive or 1 1/2 hour fly and the paramedics probly no more than what some doctors do around here. As for the gentleman were stated that he would rather die that have a bunch of kids work on him... I think that’s sad there’s nothing wrong with the skills of the cadets I work with... Im not saying I work all the time without adult supervision just sometime. I am quiet surprised at the response I have got normally people think its great that kids are getting out there and helping the community. Oh and I don’t think Im better than everyone else, as most people in this forum probly know more about paramedics than what I do. Im just trying to get some experience and this is the best way I can do it.

Dude come on... I never said I was a paramedic dont have anywere near the skills and experience they have and I havent been to uni for 4 years... Im only qualifyed in advanced first aid and basic EMS and would never go any futher that what Ive been trained to do. And Im not one of those cadets who think there god I love learning new skills and take all the adivce I can get and then try to put it into practise. The situations Ive been put in with a cadet crew havent been easy the only reason there were no adults was casue there was none availbe at them time and this guy needed urgent treatment and would have died b4 an adult got there! I live in a rural area my divison covers the biggest area in the state and were understaffed for most of our dutys so you take wat you've got and if thats a bunch of 16 year olds then so be it... Oh and wats driving a car got to do with a C spine fracture???

Yeh sorry about the grammer guys.. just uste to msn lol... sorry to start an argument lol. I dont see why cadets shouldnt be allowed to put there skills into action i mean they dont just let us out with no training like we've done heaps of courses and have to take part in weekly training and pass yearly re-accreditaion as well as going out on duty every weekend. We cant give IV drugs or anything to fancy just advanced first aid, defib and 02 and a few things like that... I've never heard of a cadet killing a patient geezz I've even saved a couple of ppl with only a cadet crew (15 n 16 year olds)

In Australia we have an organisation called St John Ambulance its Australias largest event first aid provider. I've been in it since I was 11 going to motocross, concerts n all that stuff. I think itz a great idea for getting experience and every patient you learn something new. Altho theres allways 2 "adult" members with you its still good. I dont know how many times cadets have saved the adults when they frooze or didnt know wat to do I've done it heaps of times. Now im 16 the adults have a bit more trust in you and most of the time you get 2 work on ppl by ur self. You cant ride with the proffesinal paramedics as you need to be a uni for 4 yrs so u have to be at least 21. When you say I've had a 16 yr old emt workn on me r they supervised by a paramedic or is it jst them? Timmy
