A human cadaver lab just for "ambulance drivers"? You got my attention! Where do you work? Ive never heard of cadaver labs for EMS except for systems based around medical schools/universities....Sounds too good to be true

Mntsldr: Im not getting into my military credentials but they predate your enlistment and are well over your pay grade. I am a "tactical medic" among other things in my civilian job. I have a real interest in CLS and the content of the course. TQ application is taught in the course as well as when to remove them. As far as TEMS not being =to CLS...Its like this: Im not getting in to my operational experience here because I have no one I want to wow also I could get in trouble for security reasons..Im sure you know this. The practice of TC3 is the best beginnig for any aspiring TEMS medic. Live tissue lab?....Just where did you hear that from? Not too many military classes in that outside of North Carolina. Take a CLS class and you will see what I mean. Save your money and dont get involved in one of those TEMS courses that my Dept got screwed on. More on that if you are interested. Good luck on your deployment SOMEDIC

Mntsldr: You never answered my question: Are you combat life saver certified? If you are and you had good instructors, You have the best "tactical medic " training already. Sure there are companies that sell the same info for more $$$ but if you understood TC3 in the course, you have what you need plus you got real experience "kicking" doors Not every self proclaimed TEMS expert can say that. SOMEDIC

Sure Mikey: Go watch the old Willie Wonka movie and look for his little helpers. I'll try to find a pic on line some where if I get the time
-
Mntsldr: I cant see where you would get the idea that COPS dont care about medical training. It is their ass on the line. Are you a combat life saver? IF not you need to get your self enrolled through ATTRS. The combat life saver class is the best "TACTICAL" medical class out there to take and oh yes infantry men are the intended audience for this course and its free to military members. Good luck SOMEDIC

2Leads: ROTFLMAO: This has been so much fun...What did you think of my willie wonka tactical ommpalompa?? yep a cheesy star of life and M-16s tattooed to your ass cheek makes a bad ass not.... I agree that individual operators should be trained to provide certain care. I cant see and major ALS procedures being done like you said...Most TAC crap is really standng around with thumbs up their...well you know trying to look like a bad ass

OK two leads: Heres more: Grocery shopping in your ninja suit with badge. Whining to your supervisor because you were out all night with LE trying to catch dead beat dads, bad check writers, and wife beaters and you ask to sleep through morning check off on your shift!....not exactly TEMS is it? Bumper stickers (We kill for peace. From Death comes life oh and Good medicine in bad places) and those little "thin blue line" stickers that imply you are a real LEO. Thats it for now watch out for those tactical OOMPALOMPAs .We got a female medic that looks just like a tactical version of one of Willie Wonka's little helpers in the chocolate factory when she puts on all the ninja kit...its so cute.
-
TwoLeads: ...How the hell did I forget the bad tattoos! I know one former "tactical medic" that has a star of life with m-16s crossing through it...Totaly redneck, war hero BS He took a job at our local geriatric transport service and now commands wheel chair vans instead of hostage rescue....Good stuff though lets keep it going!
-
TEMS job description? Pretending to be a COP Acting like you are in the Cop brotherhood Making the rounds in the LE agency if you are a particular female "tactical medic" Forgetting you are a medic when a medic is needed. Hoping to kill more people than you could ever save. Wearing black. A stack is more than an off duty social/physical activity Flex cuffs work well during swat call outs also. Water boy/girl...PC term is REHAB Standing around at a major incident trying to command "regular" EMS folks Thats just some of it...Go for it Its a great life!!

Medic 2588: Have you also taken NFA ALS HM?
-
I think studying human cadavers is an invaluable experience for future and present EMS providers. In fact, I can give you several good candidates to practice on...they are employees in my department!
-
Croaker: Thakns for posting in: I've always heard that AdaCo. Hasa good EMS special ops program. SOMEDIC

Spock: I hope you get the opportunity to attend the two week NFA ALS Haz-Mat Class as I have. You will realize the shortcomings of a weekend (here we go ZippyRN) cook book medicine course on haz-mat. Sounds like you guys are heading in the right direction though Thanks for the info. NFA will better educate you in ALS HM than some profit driven university course. I welcome any argument to the contrary from any one SOMEDIC

Blood money has nothing to do with it. Ths Haz-Tac program predates 9-11 as well as the first WTC bombing. Back when it was NYC*EMS they had a Special Operations Division that oversaw Haz-tac (Hazardous Incident Tactical Patrol) units. SOMEDIC
-
Hey 2Leads: Thanks for your insight into Haz-tac. I dont think there is any other program like it in the country. Im always interested in what you have to say brother SOMEDIC

Stretcher monkey: Everything is sorted here. I travel to the UK often and I know that most all of you Ive met or will meet are good blokes despite the occasional witty comments Id expect from any well raised British person. ZippyRN is doing well for now. Cheers! -
If you are doing real EMS work in the in NCyou wont be that cold unless you guys have the world's record for on scene times up there!

How about malpratice insurance? ever heard of that requirement in the UK? It all sounds good but I'd have to sell this idea to each EMS system that would have to allow an unknown Event EMS team to come in to their territory practicing EMS. Zippy: If I had heard of a new EMS coverage team coming in to our town to cover an event, I'd scrutinize them completely. My department carries the mandate to be responsible for and provide EMS for all patients in our county. My boss would be skeptical of a load of emts, RNs, MDs PAs, etc showing up in our town to run event EMS. I think you have a good idea but it is not very practical for this area. You have given some good info though. SOMEDIC -
Medic2588: To begin with, What kind of specialty ambulance/s are you working on? What kind of training is required to staff such units and what will you carry in the way of equipment? Thanks for any help. SOMEDIC
-
Hello everyone: The FDNY EMS has the Haz-tac Bn which is ambulances that are manned by trained haz-mat medics and they carry a certain amount of haz mat gear (PPE, antidotes, etc) Are any other memebers on this forum in a department that runs special ops/specialty/tox medic/tactiacl type ambulances? Im trying to develope a similar capability within our department. Thanks SOMEDIC

Zippy: Thats interesting to me. Im planning coverage for a major national sporting event in our area. I wish there were contract EMS event companies to use but its my lot to have to plan this with my department only for now. -

Over here in my area nurses are out of their operating element in anything but a hospital. I plan for events such as concerts for my department. I find it interesting that there are actually event stand by EMS staff. We nearly have to alter daily normal operations to cover larger events and involve multiple agencies? Cheers! -

Oye Zipper: What is an event EMS Bod? Is that like a wheel chair coach driver (geriatric transport)? Why would you need to be a male nurse to do that. I love Brit terminology and I am always entertained when in the UK. Cheers! -

Ah Zipper: Ive actually just finished reading a cookbook! After some swinging in trees I've decided I'm going to make Bananas Foster for desert tonight in honor of you but in reality it will be to wow my latest conquest. I see in your amazing line of credentials that you are a male nurse...Too bad mate I'm straight (but still a cookbook reading chimp) Oh well I guess you still have that manly pet Smuge kitty to return home to..... What is an ambulance attendant? Over here an "ambulance attendant" is what a Paramedic gets called unintentionally by the media. Cheers!
