Playing with a dead body ? just a hair condescending there dust, necrophilia is not in my make up ... tisk tisk. just - 1 for well for now. The point of abandonment is curious to me as there are 2 partners on a rig, one maintains the seamless continuity of care while the other provider's does a quick triage and intervenes with any life threatening injuries that could lead to a sudden death, hence the due diligence laws come rapidly into play leaving the scene of an accident. Unfortunately not an assumption at all, as without due diligence to determine if there is a D.B. on scene one will never know, I don't carry a remote sensing tricorder on "well most days, on my bat belt" yet being aware of possible serious injury and not taking any immediate steps / action and in Kanukistan and you could be looking at very serious repercussions .... dustdevil the laws do actually change when one crosses even a poorly defended border. - 5 off topic the thread is entitled "WOULD YOU STOP" not the what caused this Paediatric siezure, its root cause, prognosis or stability. I will correct you here, it is called a barrister/solicitor not plaintiff , your comparing apples to frozen urine, if your following so far. I am not having any difficulty understanding the "reasonable man" concept in Canadian law, it is a legal definition ... NOT a literal definition at all, one is judged on what a reasonable man/woman would do, in the event of any fatalities inquiry "firstly" and prior to any civil court action here, one would be judged by a peer group and experts sought (the run of the mill bus driver or ms minny mouse) this could be why we have far less litigation = less fear ? We here in Canada generally speaking sue for vengeance not a monetary reward and it's a proven cultural fact, as for the heart break " I had a dtr that seized once, crowd " .... meh not going to cut in our court system, any empathy or pre-judgement towards that type of situation and the crown or defence attorney would violate that possible candidate in preliminary evaluation of jurors, have seen it, been there, have the T shirt. The onus is to prove damages, unless there was a fatality either way, tis highly unlikely that this would ever make it to a courtroom, attempting to prove any damages from a delay in transport " for good reason " ...pftt aint going to trial. I so like the innocent till proven guilty concept, it seams far more civilised than who has deep pockets .. but thats just me, I am just RED and WHITE but not BLEW (sp) ? On the topic of assuming a lower priority and Fishing ? or just being duly diligent as a "PSO" aka Public Safety Officer, (here in assbackward snowshoe land) and there are benefits to that title here in Canada, but with that there comes responsibility for the public in general. To impose ones Laws of THEIR land from one country to another is absolute folly/foolish EMT City is quite fortunate to have members other than in those lower provinces (please remember Canadians look DOWN on the US its a matter of geography ... te he !) AND very counterproductive in this thread, common sense should never be thwarted by ANY company policy ... PLEASE tell me it isn't so. Remember the TOPIC title again: I would not stop in NYC. Out of Context.... period... again - 5 BLEDSOE is talking about medicine not law here and it is rote protocol vs. implementing standard cook book recipe books, funny but he has built a few of those to use as a model ... wierd aint it ? (dust it is really not looking good for you, have you been wearing a hat in all that sun ?) I did look up page 147 in MY wanker protocol book and a picture popped up (it is SO not my best side) In Conclusion: there are no what ifs, just the here and now. NOW here is the very sad truth, EMS should not be practicing Law at all (or fear of the Law) or even some lay persons poor interpretation..... we should be practicing evidence based medicine and logic, I believe that is what Bledsoe is saying. I often wonder what the Good Samaritan (it's in this big black book I read once) would think if he were to be reincarnated in today's day and age, somehow I think he would have found a way to help all. cheers edited for poor grammer
-
The first step in the process could be a grassroots movement, Bledsoe has multiple acres of pastureland for camping so perhaps emstock could be the place to get "the ball rolling" persay. No it will not be easy, cheap or without many hurdles to overcome but without an honest effort NOTHIng will be accomplished except "idle chat and bitching" it I believe is human nature to get caught up in the trivial issues, I digress. The provincial regulatory bodies got together and contribute about 15 bucks per practitioner to the National cause and put some ca$h in the coffers, I can only imaging with the NREMT-P level (during examination process) the funds that would become available for lobbing) We have had some serious advancement with a group in Canada called PAC (Paramedics of Canada) ONE COLLECTIVE VOICE and a general consense in regards to the MAJOR issues, this group has had quite a few positive lobbies and has had positive outcomes ... it started being more effective when individual practitioners showed up on the steps of the house of Parliament. So I guess I an agreeing with Rid, that one has to to take action. Do I be so bold as to suggest: look UP NORTH for a model that is making some headway? I dare say without putting words in BEBs mouth .... oh wait a second he already stated that in another publication.... look beyond your borders for solutions, and don't reinvent the wheel. There are Cultural differences but conceptually in North American delivery of health care is quite similar. cheers

DOOD: This is not as clear cut as you would believe, in Kanukistan that is: 1- You do not have a legal duty to stop .... when your off duty, I believe one has a moral obligation OFF DUTY, this is part in parcel of our whole Canadian Culture ! 2- If you did not stop while on duty (the only exception is a truely life or limb patient in the back) and there was a death on scene you could be charged with criminal negligence .. period. 3- "tort law" or civil law is based on the "reasonable man" sooo you in a court if you were found to be acting on false misunderstandings of the law .... ignorance of the law is not a reasonable excuse in a court. I soo agree with DOOGER in this thread, I am proud that he is a member of EMS, he has tried not tried prematurely judge a brother via a news cast and I know if I was flipped over with my kids trapped .... HE would be the man to do the right thing cheers

Firstly you are so old dust ... was that before the invention of the wheel ? I cant wait to see the day when a "C" tank can safely take 4000 psi, wouldsure be easier to pack about. cheers

1- rehtorical question 2- better life through pharmocology. 3- havent enough EMS personel lost there lives in the last 2 weeks to even consider this to be a rational thought.

Well personally I am very relieved to see that BEBs writing skills have improved and this open invitation to emstock is most enticing, I do love a good Pirate theme. Perhaps I should bring some Moose to show these Texans how to make real chilli, possum is just wrong in so many ways. cheers The Man with the Yellow Hat ... squint.

IS ASA Medic a new title ? I am always the last to hear .... sniff sniff. ps just helping is all....te he.

Ahh but the entertainment value scores high there young grasshopper/dustdevil. cough, splutter, gag ... I sense incoming ? My 2 cents is that in most cases the EMTs - (fill in the blank) are in the vast majority of times (where I practice as a last aider, I believe the EMT training here is quite sufficiant) because in most cases they are inserting it in a cadaver. (ok don't get yer poop in a knot because most urban centers here have ALS providers and in rural areas EMT (PLS) ... just look to the response time to billy bob's cabin) The thing is (the LT is fairly goof proof) and one never know's when a more invasive airway other than an OPA just may change an outcome ... positively, frankly as an Oxygen Boy everything other than a ETT is a pain in the rump upon recieving to ER and changing out a tube to insert an ETT .... hmm? This can potentially comprimise that patient/ le coup de gras during any exchange as it dramatically increases possibility of aspiration. So my little rule is in field is if it aint broke don't try to fix it in da bushes ! cheers

I believe I saw a advert about this on the late night television, I have heard claims the internasal application also cures snoring when applied this route. Ah the wonders on modern chemistry ......

Greetings Marlene: I am very disapointed to hear that costs of health care delivery are a major worry for you, as the medications that "should" be implimented for CF are quite cost prohibitive . I do also have a link for a Pulse OX for you, I have purchased one and have found it to be very accurate and quite good value for the money invested, I use it in provison of care in Industrial clinic settings. http://www.spomedical.com/5500.php cheers and best wishes.

Do you administer painkillers more often to white patients?
tniuqs replied to Michael's topic in General EMS Discussion
Not to start a argument over what type of Rx should be used for renal colic but one can see from your post that Toradol ie the type of NSAIDS have not been included in the study either, well at least clearly anyway. My personal experiance with Toradol is that it is no where near effective as the Opiates. Funny thing all my patients have had GI complaints or PMHX of "query" peptic ulcers, cva history, salicylate allergies, renal problems, asthma or HTN. The only reason I have used it is when "in a few deployments" the laws of that land forbid the use of narcotic analgesia .... or thrown in a nasty prison cell btw. Back to the regular sheduled thread: Racism in Medical Delivery of Care. -
Do you administer painkillers more often to white patients?
tniuqs replied to Michael's topic in General EMS Discussion
. Well, an excellent first post, hey getto come out of the closet ! I enjoy honesty the best. I became a Paramedic for really only 2 reasons, back some time ago ... oh please don't go there, dirt is older really, really ! Reason (s) # 1 - Protect Airways. # 2 - Take away the PAIN. Thang is "speaking just for myself" I was born Colour Blind and an Idealist (sometimes that sucks) or maybe it was my MOM and DAD that beat some sense into me at a young age, as they listened to Burton Cummings songs. Sure, I have got some prejudice in me, yes everyone does, but those argument's are based on my political views ... I loose the politics when I have a patient in the back of the gut wagon. We don't have a lot of the black persons here, but a huge mix of everything else. But then again .... I am cheap too! so with the cost of M/S being about 36 cents per vial its a absolute no brainer for me, and it does go stale dated too, I so hate waste ! So you got 10/10 with some positive findings "tachycardia or HTN" YOU get happy juice .... period and never have I been in front of an MD for inapropriate use. cheers -

tniuqs replied to Michael's topic in General EMS Discussion
The WHOLE study is seriously flawed .... why you say? Because the MDs color or lack of color is not addressed on "each" delivery of medication. The personal comment's by the presenter of the study are interesting / curious because each patient presents or tolerates pain differently, the presentation of this study is in my opinion a means to light a fire and make arguement, it is in my humble opinion a make work project only and where did the funding come from.... look to root premise, that said, there is always bias of one form or another if one looks to color or religion or language or cultural status. cheers -
LOOK NORTH over the poorly defended border to Nova Scotia ! Learn a new language, its called English and use money that has some colour in it ! ps bring beers eh

Correction: Alberta Health is hiding from this issue, ACoP has no inflence at all unless requested by OH+S the thing is they are reviewing the FA regulations and kits list as of late and they really should ! As these FA regs have not been reviewed for 20 + years The Stokes Litter is a standard ??? ..... like during the Korean War .... don't get me going ! Odd that in Schedule "H" under risk assessment that an RN or Paramedic be dictated (over 200 men camp and over 40 minutes travel to an ER dept) YET no mention of Cardiac Monitoring, Rx, Pulse Oximetry, BVM, or Traction Splints ... hell, even a suction device THAT WORKS ? It is my understanding that the "due diligence" laws are far more indicative of what is needed on a remote site these days, more or less a comparison of one industrial site over/ under another ... so IF there is a serious injury investigation OR worse a Fatality Inquiry, then ONLY then would the medical sub contractors equitment and qualifications be scrutinized, the catch phrase used today is "practicing beyond compliance" MY best advice ask/ put on paper to your contractor what YOU believe are requirements @ your site SHOULD be, before you have a real wreck.... therefore then YOU have been duly diligent, if the Employer does not provde it or failed to provid "kit" and within your scope of practice then its there head that rolls. Back on topic, the Alberta regs only state a conveyance that protects the worker from the elements ..... The standard old "Camper" top is not suitable or even legal to transport Granny on holidays under Highway Traffic Act ? HUH. B.C. has adopted the roll over protection, and the Camper is BOLTED to the frame as well as Occupant (s) restraint devices. Man if you have ever seen a can I say SUN DOWNOR? hit the ditch there is no question where one "would not want to be travelling" OMG those things come apart like a cardboard box! That said you really can't put a full fledged type 3 or even 2 without 4x4 cause you may never even get into the site .... as for the Helicopter Identifier site # .... this is a bit of a dream wish, why .... because rarely does anything big happens during the ligh ? with good visibility ? ... so don't rely on a big red bird to come and save your ass .... its just not smart to put all your eggs in that basket. Write Alberta WorkSafe or AB. OH+S "under ask an expert" and see what you get as an answer ... hmmm. ps Are you near Ft. M ?

I would just like to reiterate 3 of the comments placed here by RESPECTED comparatriates, frankly shocked at the commentary by an individual that should be a positive role model and yes a moderator in fact, and the only one from north of the border, I hang my head in embarresment. Bravo! that IS the ticket, I sure hope your well paid to do that job  That was more than polite, the Canadian way in fact ! That would be called "Pride" in the excellence that the public in Alberta have come to respect. Agreed :x Alberta without a shadow of one doubt has some of the best training institutes in the free world, Alberta in the past has set the Standards that all provinces aspire to attain in delivery of services .... some members that actually admit that they are new to this system.... and also demonstrate respect, yet on the Other Hand I AM NOT a newbee, I am a true Veteran, and my number is so low I have been compared to dirt and I still believe that Alberta is without any question the "GOLD CARD" I have always believed that the attitude of the STUDENT is the bottom line in Education, the institutes present the required information, the ONUS is on the STUDENT not the other way around, This to my way of thinking, is true Professionalism. In closing, I would just like to point out a wee detail in the Code of Conduct for all ACP members and actually reportable, "do not bring disrespect". cheers

Note to Self: Ask "H" this very same question in 20 years on the road, and down the road. As for now ..... Off With Her Hair ! cheers

Disagree: Our society has degraded to the point of ideologically bs so way beyond a rational thought process and based on rights and political correctness, IN FACT this last case quite amazing, word has it that the Officer had not even opened the door of his cruiser to exit, and was murdered in cold blood didn't even see it coming.. So then the other officers "negotiated" with the killer for many hours to surrender when a sniper with one inexpensive round would have ended things in a timely manner and more far more than justified .... but no they didn't..... so why then ? The interesting part of this Doc, is that the Supreme Court of Canada has made a precedent setting judgement, as a result of this KILLERS forefathers and ancestry and due too many 'harsh" penalties placed on others of this "status" (in the past) that no longer would this culture be "subjected" to the charge of Premeditated Murder (I think they call it murder in the first degree down south) justifed/ rationalised a result of cultural differences ? huh ? Premeditated Murder will no longer be an option for the Crown in this case just a lesser charge of Manslaughter..... am I making sense because NONE of this ideological bs makes any sense to me ! Killer here, loaded a gun walked out of his home and shot a Cop in the head.... no premeditation here ????? So pointing these diffences out do I therefore become a Racist or is being treated differently ie (with different punishment) based on culture or Race and I dare speak my mind ..... is this NOT the definition of Racism or am I just a confused person once again. What has happened in past is history not something that should be somehow be compensated for as far as the LAWS for ALL ..... not saying that their were not errors, but sheesh, TWO WRONGS do not make a RIGHT in my books as for this is not of pertinate to EMS.... huh just where do you live [HellsBells] what are you thinking man .... never had a need for RCMP to back you up, hey brothers stick together man. Now on to our prison/SPA system, average about 70 G a year per asshole, no forced work camp but have conjugal visits, awesome food, re;education prn, and federal prisoners can vote in federal elections too..... SAY WHAT ? ps I was in a camp 2 years ago and I did not get to vote why, because, the oilfield workers yea the ones paying taxes, providing energy so you don't freeze in winter.... oh don't get me going.......................... So bottom line there are far too many rights for the accused vs. the rights of the victims, in that regard I BELIEVE that eventually Canadians will stand up and fight for the rights of the many vs. the bs minority rights for the few, I just hope its in my lifetime. Bring the death penalty back I SAY, assholes don't ROT in prison they eat better than most kids. So as an MD I ask you this : DO Surgeons cut the Cancers out of a BODY or treat with Chemotherapy to kill those Cancers? Is time perhaps that we eliminate the CANCERS from our society ? cheers on Rememberance Day. I remember WHY and I am ashamed that some others have forgotten why so many died to preserve our way of life, if you will excuse me 11/11/11.
