  1. Maybe work on a spell check before writing your paper. cheers
  2. FYI: http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/3274.asp http://www.collegeofparamedics.org/pages/home/default.aspx
  3. I had the very good fortune of meeting this man, on a movie set called Strikers Mountain ... he did not stop his antics off camera, I loved his "fart maker machine" that he carried in his pocket to dinners. A great comic and I am most positive he would be happy that all of you are now quoting his lines. RIP Mr Nielson you made a generation laugh.
  4. Partial Quote: letter to the media from AMA President. http://www.inews880.com/Channels/Reg/LocalNews/story.aspx?ID=1318031
  5. Well I was wrong: The Progressive Conservatives CAN get even more STUPID with their actions ! So PC policy now is: If you can't debate someone intelligently then smear them. This is slander plain an simple. As IF the President of the AMA will disclose any personal information about ANYONE in the first place, the AMA is an advocacy for the Doctors. So why did Fred Horn the Parliamentary assistant not go and make a complaint or request an investigation under the HPA to College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta ? That IS the regulatory body responsible and oddly directly under AHS control. Fred does't even understand his own regulatory structure. whisper: Fred Horn we all have rights under Health Information Privacy Laws. Perhaps we all should sign into AHS e records and check out what Fred Horns medical issues, maybe HTN, maybe High Cholesterol and maybe Haemorrhoids PLEASE Fred H remove head from your ass (oops too late) I wonder what the approval rating is for the PC right now ? Perhaps I should go and eat popcorn and watch the Emergency Health Debate / Gong Show on Monday in the Legislature. The seats are way cheaper than for the Grey Cup and apparently they will be quite a few supporters in attendance. GO SHERMAN NATION GO ....
  6. More Damage control ONLY when we all know where the true problem lies, and the public is finally seeing the light, the good ole PC boys club is showing their true colours (in public) So speak UP an your OUT ... Disagree with Party line .. and your OUT .... eat as cookie and make an ass of yourself in media and your OUT. btw If you ever had the chance to meet ex health minister Liepert, well Raj is quite correct in a TV interview when he called Liepert rude and arrogant, Liepert IS a Horses Ass. cheers
  7. Greetings: Hmm: the the 30/2 ratio is primarily for one "person CPR" but when there are minimum 2 practised individual, for example on a CODE TEAM in a hospital its quite a different thing the breath is interposed, YES shocking 5 to 1. Some research is indicating breath on the down stroke as opposed to "interposed" on upstroke is a higher success rate in outcomes. The intent of increasing the rate was "in theory" in people to increase and maintain higher pulsatile inter-thorasic pressures for a longer time period. Forward blood flow /perfusion improves on average at the 14 to 16 th compression confirmed by Dopplar ultrasound studies in dogs. In 2 geographical areas in "out of hospital arrest" ie Vancouver BC and Seattle WA. there is an improvement with "cardiac saves" of up to 3% higher. In hospital cardiac saves are closer to 25 % in a study I participated University of Alberta that is just "cardiac save" to admission of ICU door to qualify. Discharge to door is abysmal, quite frankly. The no "breathing" CPR is exactly what most believe, lay people have a higher tenancy to step forward and try CPR without having to swap spit. Is that going to improve out of Hospital Arrests and TO-DOOR discharge ? I dunno .. and to the best of my knowledge has yet to be proven. I have a very difficult time believing that in-hospital or out-of-hospital arrests and NO Breathing Part for professionals (well that dog aint goin to hunt) What we ARE seeing as a "trend" in protocols to "call them" dead earlier ... end tirade.
  8. Hey on walker jokes .. that's just hurtful ! PCP you may find in high abmiant noise environments the "bell" may isolate extra noise. cheers
  9. Ha Ha .. I just happen to have registration in AB and licencing in BC as ACP and you think YOU are confused I just wing it . ps Happy .. it will be a cold day in AB before the term PCP is used sorry bout that, no wait its - 34 C outside
  10. If your not trained with the Ventilator and something happened to a patient when you placed the patient on it, YOU would be liable as would your managers. Just an idea .. drop into your local hospital go chat with an RRT, and do a walkabout in an ICU too, its far better than squeezing a bag for long transports and better for the patient. I have used this ventilator extensively its solid piece of kit but very dated, that's why your operation purchased it is my bet, really no way one can teach on line for this. cheers
  11. Maybe sad in the short term for Raj, in the long term going to be very sad for the PCs there is HUGE support for RAJ, especially in the health care workers, can you imagine that after this caucus crappolla and doing a TV interview that Dr. Sherman is working his regular weekend shift to help out his ER doc friends, well that says a lot to me. Don't see Liepert, Stelmach or Gene Zorro pulling any night shifts at the legislature, the latter 2 did not have the guts to vote in caucus meeting today according to Hansards they were not even at the caucus meeting ! I hope they have a doctors note .. I do if I miss a day of work. 478 comments posted on CBC news thread even some older PC supporters want PC butts to chew on. I have started a fund (not a tax free registered as a society thing) for Dr. Drucketts one way ticket economy back to the land of OZ. I Hope aussiephil has a wee chat with him upon landing because Druckett is not doing any of his countrymen any favours either. cheers
  12. http://www.calgaryherald.com/health/Tory+Sherman+suspended+from+caucus+vows+independent/3867401/story.html Well chalk another one on the wall ! " Just HOW STUPID can the Progress Conservatives in Alberta Get ????? " They threw Raj out of caucus for speaking up and out this because one has sworn to uphold the Hippocratic Oath ? It appears that the death of Democracy has obviously just occurred in ALBERTA This is a true EPIC FAIL in all respects. Now this is ironic we ALL know the Smiling Edde Stelmach the Premier is a fuking PIG FARMER intimidated by anyone that has an education, sheesh it sure makes pig farmers look bad too . Is a health care "general strike" a possibility now ? just saying. NO CHEER !
  13. Well follow up for us would you ? It would be interesting to see how your patient progresses. cheers
  14. Perhaps the phrase I have heard used in BC about Alberta Plates came to be ? Red and White = Blood on the Snow. Not that humours is it cheers
  15. No cheer for the "Cookie Monster" !
  16. WOW ... Nanaimo welcome ! ICE in Smart Phones is not just Contact Info, in many it has specific medical problems, allergies, or meds listed the braclets and necklace are not as popular as they once were. HEY .. and that's not right because whenever I am in BC they directly for my wallet BC = Bring Cash te he. cheers and jk
  17. Really disappointed about Cyber Town Hall meeting with Gene Z. Interviewers are asking what is going to be done and he is spouting numbers and statistics a very good job as a Honorary PHD SPIN Doctor ? Roumour has it when capacity in ER reaches 100% then and less than 7 trucks for about a million taxpayers then the will split the EMS teams so more "effective hallway medicine" Not certain but that's what Gene Z implied on the show. Then to be so BOLD as try to sell his 5 year Health Care Plan ... Hello Wild Rose Alliance ... brb on the phone. In the words of John Travolta in Pulp Fiction come to mind ... What a Jip ! I will never get that 30 minutes I wasted watching the program, back either. cheers
  18. Richard we up here have a different system of Law and far less pointing fingers for Ca$H only... one has to prove damages and that is not easy thing to do, far more latitude than strict following of protocols. I would hazard a guess per call compared to the US is 1 to 1000 in EMS legal issues that go anywhere. cheers
  19. Correction ! I was so exited I spelled ALBERTA in the male gender ... OOPS. cheers
  20. They JUST passed a law here Thank God about frigging time too, 2 days ago I drove by an idiot at 120 km/hr driving with his knees texting with both hands Idiot, Felt like doing the Pit Manoeuvre . Yea Hoo! No GPS, NO hand held Cell, No Texting, Crackberry roads got safer (I hope) Cant wait to start recording Licence Numbers and reporting (I have hands free). I like court when I am not the accused cheers
  21. http://www.globaltvedmonton.com/health/Alberta+paramedics+call+overhaul+medical+services/3772369/story.html Do you think that the government will listen to Paramedics Now ?
  22. http://daveberta.ca/2010/11/raj-sherman-rocks-the-establishment-with-emergency-room-email/ Dr. Raj Sherman rocks the establishment with his blunt emergency room email. Reproduced with permission. cheers. BRAVO MY NEW HERO DR. RAJ SHERMAN whom I have had the pleasure of working with and hope to more. Next if this thread is followed ... I will post MY letter to Raj "someone is going to get hurt REAL BAD" Instead of walking away .... http://www.edmontonjournal.com/health/Sherman+renews+support+Stelmach+government/3850987/story.html
  23. Full Body Vacuum Splints I have had some minor experience although limited to warmer climates they are good kit. Perhaps a better mousetrap for spinal restrictions overall ? Question: Do you have any problems with them when going from a cold environment to a warm environment ? The odd thing I find with this thread is that there is an improved "SMR" device the Oregon Spinal Splint which on the training video provided demonstrates that using a chin strap (a movable joint, closing the airway and using non compressible head pads) most honestly everything we are taught is to keep airway open ... and then we do this chin strap thing ? There is a better way of securing the head without closing the mouth. Although in this link the "traditional" chin and forehead straps is demonstrated. http://www.skedco.com/product/detail/sk-300-gr A split chin "type" strap split over the nose using the Zygomatic arches as point of contact instead of using chin and forehead as securing points ... just saying there are ways of "C" spinal restriction that are logically better but for some reason never applied to EMS I find this most befuddling. cheers
  24. Question emtannie: 1-When you are on a student car is it a 3 man/women ? 2-As student do you receive a stipend an honorarium or a wage ? Good ideas in a perfect world, well accept in rural areas and I am of the opinion that ALS in anyway shape or form should be considered an essential level of care. I will follow this thread as having worked in services both single medic alone in remote austere settings, urban and rural in dual level services and in tiered response systems on ground. In Air Ambulance partnered alone a single Medic L.D.T. (ie international repats btw ill advised) and/or partnered with EMT or Paramedic or RN or RRT or ICU Teams. No time to comment in depth presently . cheers
