  1. Are those copy right protected ? Just putting more rounds in the (proverbial) magazine is all. cheers and thanks oh roo breath. AND for any others out there PLEASE I beg of you VOTE in the poll, 5 votes just ain't going to help me if I cash in my air miles and go to Ottawa.
  2. Query: So why would you want a Blowgun for a narcotic OD ? for a wabbit
  3. Can a class action law suit be started because of referred PTSD ?
  4. vs-eh? First off thanks for the response, yea if you have been reading my posts I am sick too, but not mentally just physically, the cough, headache, the nausea, the vomiting, the isolation of sequestering myself. Well you know your RIGHT I must agree with YOU, It's is very tiring hearing of 13 dead positive from H1N1 (where my kids live in the last week) 2 kids in Ontario dead, clinics now being closed in Calgary and sorry another place in AB too, an RRT on a ventilator in Calgary, that I know on a first name basis and some of members of EMT city also too sick to even comment or post on this topic(hope your feeling better Annie) school closures in the eastern provinces, 200% increase in ER visits for Paeds in Quebec, who know's the rest of the real story in ERS across Canada. THEN far less vaccine being delivered than promised (like a third) for those that want it. Then listening to the stories of the huge line ups of pregnant mothers waiting patiently in the rain. Your own Toronto Fire Fighters saying wtf? then few Members of OUR elected Parliament whining that they don't have a "special" clinic on the "Hill" but the Edmonton Oilers and the Edmonton Eskimos (pro teams) jumping the cue, the cancellation of a kids choir for Prince Philips visit .. lets see have I missed something I bet I have ..... Instead lets use a Canadian Armed Forces 737 to fly a freaking candle from Greece, drive, skateboard, canoe, float, run over 3500 kms and more money spent on the Olympic crap that will just amount to make our taxes higher spending more money on candle than this "little" H1N1 issue for the Health in Canada .. agreed that makes me mor ill than too. So welcome the world to visit Vancouver, funny how SARS did such a great job for public relations in TO <insert sarcasm> So to end my rant ... EMS without solidarity or the guts to write just one letter to your MLA or MP or media asking why WE SO CALLED FRONT LINE PROFESSIONALS can't assist or why we are generally restricted, now that IS retarded beyond belief. Well vs-eh thanks for the encouragement I needed to just try to make a difference, your comment spurs me on. cheers

  6. Siffalass answered that ... last year yes this year Perhaps if First Responders were REALLY a priority there could be far less "sick days taken" I talked with an old Union rep about 2 years ago with Edmonton ... 1/4 of staff were off work for one reason or another on a daily basis, presently in Edmonton the OT is huge !!! I am hoping to prove with this poll and a few others sites for comparison that now being supposedly under Alberta Health Care the problem is what again ? Just look to the MTCs sitting idle and put them to work, just cost recovery only .... see where some options may be, time to think completly out of the box ... we need stats plain and simple or at least enough investigation to warrant a grant for investigation ... Now totally off topic but worth mentioning do You know how much the Canadian government is spending to fly, run, drive, float a frigging candle across the country, oh here comes the nausea again . Loved the Health RN at the legislature story btw. So Do the math: One admission (possibly preventable) to either ER visit or Floors (leave out ICU, no brainer there)compare that to the cost of one vial of vaccine (pick any one) and the cost of delivery to the door, then the cost of an anti viral or the Q8h hour return to ER for IV antibiotics. I think there is more than one way to skin pole cats, so I dare try ... or just give me versed ...te he. Perfect Exactly what I need BUT Governor of where Iceland ? j/k

  8. ET ALL: Bit of a poll may quite interesting due to a world wide event as of late, no discussion requested for opinion on a specific vaccine. The intent is that to support our vast EMS network world wide and in solidarity if we are to actually be accepted as part of the Health Care Delivery System. Please state what Countries Provinces/States are using EMS to assist in inoculations, and PLEASE your talking to a Canadian I have no idea the PA vs PN vs NSW or NWT. If you would please include level of i.e. PCP/ACP/CCP or EMT-B/REMT-P or Ambulance Officers ie. the level of training in USA, OZ, UK, NZ, SA, and "any others" and hello Norway, Qatar and Israel. My intent is to clearly identify to many that have my ear that some solidarity in EMS world wide "may" exist Just part of my under development letter: ONE response from the Paramedics of Canada list server site:
  9. Firstly great link thanks Vent, just FYI we now have an RRT dependent on a ventilator in Calgary this minute (no vaccine available) pity, the newest release is now shortages in vaccine the demand here is huge ... so for those doubters in the crowd looks like your in the minority and may be too late ... OK so EBM anyone heard of just one death from either type inoculation .. I AM ALL EARS ! So the history of the development of drugs/medicine Banting and Best a perfect example (ants in dogs urine with pancreas removed resulted in development of Insulin) by just good observational skills one of the most familiar is ventolin/albutrol used initially to slow premature labour a women that just "happened" to be asthmatic and suddenly improved (yes a sidebar) Could it be that sometimes the mother of invention is necessity, we see this every day in ICUs as when your down to multi system failures anything is worth a go, for those bothering to read these posts if you havent been there consider yourself DAMN lucky. My son now 18 informed me hes not getting the vaccine cause drug companies are just making money .... the 18 year old mentality OMG, I wish he could read this excerpt: Lurarative ... hmm thanks Roche,GlaxoSmithKline, looks like someone is ! I think with this announcement by CDC they are running scared !!!! The demographic at risk of increased mortality morbidity has taken us off guard, young healthy vigorous children and in under 48 hours from minor symptoms to death. Please click on the MAP LINKS listed on the WHO site and please remember that many countries do not have the capability to report accurately due to health care funding, and the stats are not this weeks snapshot either, so lets look at the bigger picture. http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/updates/en/index.html Make NOTE of this link if you dare: The qualitative indicators monitor: the global geographic spread of influenza, trends in acute respiratory diseases, the intensity of respiratory disease activity, and the impact of the pandemic on health-care services. Ok so the other side of the controversy ... this H1N1 is just normal stuff its nothing just a cold yea people die so whatever EH .... NOW the question must be asked: ARE WE PREPARED FOR THE NEXT SPANISH TYPE FLU ? that killed 50 million, these stats are screaming at us all. cheers
  10. Only have to see one ... then chat with the lawyers as a witness ... not fun. After the very informed posts from the BC guys ... I would almost have to disagree as of late, AB is falling behind for the PCP/EMT level ... was that my outside voice ? AGAIN: http://www.saveourparamedics.com/ Caught again ... dang and I said glucogenesis my bad ? smart ass PCP's. Excellent point in fact I equate Glucagon to a rescue airway, dang nice to have options in cases like this ... cheers
  11. It will be very interesting to hear your opinions , and you are aware that Calgary EMS is presently contesting what Union/Association is to be mandated (by the Conservatives) to represent them .. interesting times. cheers
  12. With Michael D. Ayers .... umm thats not an episode I want to watch .... they filmed broke back mountain here oh the shame of it all.
  13. OH crap ... he will be applying for asylum here in Kanukistan now ... gee thanks a lot.
  14. Oh I am heart broken .... tell me did Da Wabbit die from H1N1 ?
  15. Well quite clear that Richard has nothing intelligent to add to the topic thread, or maybe I am just wasting my time . Now that was funny .... http://www.calgarysun.com/news/alberta/2009/10/29/11563116-sun.html Oh MR Liepert (the man supposedly in charge of health) see your previous Deputy Minister of Healths comments ... So would on of those that die be your child of your family member ? Oh and no response to my Phone call yet ... guess Mr Liepert does't care for tea and cookies ? The population of Alberta is 3.5 million btw.
  16. Yes agreed but is is just common sense that we are lacking or is it more than that ? I am beginning to believe that some of the underling issues are moreover Turf Wars, the best way for governments to control is the divide and conquer, not, just as we see in the US the Medic FF / volley / Pro. The controversy here in my hood (this last news feature) division of other allied health care providers as well, so now the question in my mind is just who and why are they doing this ... it sure aint New York ... they are doing it right. Now Facing a possible pandemic ... no wait WHO says were ARE this is a time that be must become solidified, more than ever, and it has been said many times by far more intelligent people than myself that SOLIDARITY amongst all health providers is one of the biggest faults that we suffer from. As I was composing ... kevkie of course beats me to the punch line ... and a perfect example of "turf" Public Health RNs don't want us to assist ... but when THEY are way over heads .... who do they call? cheers sorry I would get into it more but busy composing a rather scathing letter to editors because I never get a response from MY elected official(s) funny thing that ? edit for lack of proof reading.
  17. Well what an intelligent concept just how hard is it ? To be trained EMT or Paramedic to write down a name, take a quick PMHX and an IM shot .... So Agreed Siffalass .... Rick is returning my call ..... So lets get all the First Responders, in the hospitals were there is double than normal visits (or amass the public in malls waiting for hours) to get the vaccine, as I have stated its Highly likely that I have H1N1 my brother just returned from traveling over seas ... and I visited an ER where the MD was not wearing PPE and I watched him see 3 patients in 15 minute (no hand washing) OMG. I wish to extend an invite: Linda Miller, Howard May, Mr. Liepert, Dr. Druckman and our Lord Stelmach would to like come and visit me at my home ... I am serving tea and cookies, and I somewhere I lost the bar of soap. Perhaps a history lesson on Spanish flu would be in order too, with leadership like this we should be hoping that history does not repeat itself ... oh wait that does happen ... I hope I am soo soo wrong. BTW the Edmonton Eskimos and the Oilers and the Calgary Flames have been inoculated .... nah there is no cue jumping in Alberta ! Spare Versed or Ativan donations accepted ... cheers
  18. I have nothing to say I am flabbergasted with the stupidity by Calgary Officials and not following Toronto's Lead nor advice from HEALTH CANADA .... I can't decide if I am angrier or more embarrassed ....
  19. Ah the old D10W vs D50W controversy ... perhaps I could explain why "as a receiver of some Diabetics in ER" and the political and medical complications as this is a big controversy with some services I have come across in our reciprocity BC vs AB deal as of late. IN BC (looks like Kiwiville too) this is SOP and although if on the BGL is very, very low this does takes some time to bring glucose levels up to therapeutic levels compatible with life BUT more gradually (the newer studies suggest that multiple repeat of highs and lows in BGL in the IDDM patient equate to increased mortality morbidity, well long term) BUT and a big but this is NOT rationale that BC medical directors used when establishing those "Guidelines" initially for giving D10W as a drip vs bolus of D50W THIS was because the vast majority of PCPs or EMT~I in BC, and as their very few ACPs (advanced care paramedics) were veiamently opposed to ANY IV Push meds for the PCP/EMT level, the concept being "do less harm" OR one error would make precedent and therefore NO PCP/EMT would be allowed, anything other than oral glucose ... just saying it was "pre damage control" Kaisu, make referance to this in her post about patiency of line ... I will just expound a tad. Point in fact and the reasons argued at that time .. Question: so has anyone ever had the pleasure of observing the damage done by a line going interstitial while D50W being pushed, this is rather thick stuff (so is it the line or is it the viscosity of the goo ... good question eh what?) and/or unrecognized because all Diabetics with low BGLs are so very cooperative <insert sarcasm>... Complications: higher concentrations ie D50W can cause sloughing of tissue necrosis if extravastion sometimes requiring debriding of tissue and grafts, far less damage possible in D10W just dripped, just a bit of political medical history. Now in Alberta during that snapshot in time the EMT level was restricted to oral dextrose, this changed and it only took 12 years ... <again insert sarcasm>. I was very fortunate to actually visit with rock_shoes (and he was forced to remove them on my porch) te he, and this was a topic amongst many others we chatted over. What we BOTH agreed upon was the use of slow 50mg IV push of Thiamine in his SOP (BC) BUT this does not occur in Alberta EMT (for Paramedic in AB I use 100mg )so why is this very important ??? Why because there is no ETOH related hypoglycemia out there and NO IDDM have the "occasional highball" either< again insert sarcasm> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wernicke-Korsakoff_syndrome Your mileage may vary ... although Glucagon would be in my best semi informed opinion be the best for first round drug for the EMT but it "costs" too much and short shelf life .... sheesh. A long winded answer to a simple question in the field if I have a possible cardiac I use D5W due compatability with some meds, I guess I just don't like snowflakes in my drips, NS for most but I do always consider R/L for poly trauma and an extra line in the cardiac because one must always suspect (without an I Stat) that K+ could be a touch low. cheers
  20. 12 hours and slept ... far better than drinking a 26 of the best scotch at a party, never see a hung over cutter ? meh. Interesting, want to know the real stats of MDS and the level of drug abuse, access is the big issue here with far more drugs, try pee testing a surgical resident for amphetamines ... yup scary. Not quite correct, but really close, 2 weeks the the catabolites of THC are eliminated in the infrequent user, in the chronic users up to a month detected in urine testing (over 50ng/ml) well on the TNT diagnostic urine cut offs, mass spectrometry is far more sensitive. But you do raise an excellent query .... what is a legal impaired level for THC ... and are they agressive drivers ? LMAO just watch Cheech and Chong. The biggest USofA issue is the 28 commissions on the investigation of THC ... funded by that Nixon idiot then only presented 4 because HE did not want to see the real information ... or at least release it to the public, loved reefer madness what a 'hoot' no pun intended. Agreed Cut the major funding from drug dealers off at the knees and yup many issues would go away, incarcerate a pot dealer how stoopid but do focus on the white powders, that said I find a "buzzed partner" and the wrath of Khan may will be light in comparison. The countries in Europe that even Heroin is legalized (as long as their registered) even legal shooting galleries with free clean sharps = less transmission of Hep and HIV, Rocket Science ! Medical use the clear evidence is in chronic pain, side effects of Chemo, some forms of depression, some seizures, stuttering and this is a huge recreational industry in British Columbia in the billions even, TAX IT control it cause it ain't working now. Just one thing more I sure hope the entire Cali legislature keeps their damn cloths on ... PLEASE.
  21. Thanks crackers taste SOO good today ... great points from a highly respected Paramedic ! OK more interesting info, you think that "antibacterial hand wash works to kill virus " this from a toxicologist
  22. And your source of information would be ???? Not being a smart ass, lets talk evidence based medicine too many myths not enough tangible information ....
  23. No Ruff, sorry for missing that but so much misinformation out there right now, Ontario Paramedics have been pumped to the TOP of the list in priority delivery Now Australia and Canada working together: October 26, 2009 For Immediate Release I am not trying to cause a panic or cry Wolf .... but if just one parent reads these posts and just one person changes there mind .... then I will be very happy. Right now there is more posts concerning the very poor TV Trauma show ..... shame on us really.
  24. Sodium saccharin has been proven to be a carcinogen,we are and have removed damn near all Lead from paint .... the dirt in that cave in Arizona .... has more mercury .... see the poorly copied. Hotly debated BUT best inform yourself a tad better MYTH BUSTED ! . Mercury is a ubiquitous element in the natural environment(1). Mercury is present in soil at average concentrations between 0.05 µg/g and 0.08 µg/g of soil and 0.2 µg/L in fresh water lakes(2). Mercury vapour is present in ambient air, with concentrations in uncontaminated areas averaging < 10 ng/m3 (39). Natural sources contribute an estimated 2,700 to 6,000 tonnes per year to global emissions, compared with <= 3,000 tonnes per year from human activities(40). Table 1 shows that the main population sources of exposure to elemental and methylmercury are dental amalgam and dietary fish, respectively(41). Organic mercury compounds occur in high concentrations in certain species of dietary fish. For example, in a survey of U.S. food market baskets conducted between 1991 and 1999 by the USFDA, canned tuna, packed in oil was reported to contain an average 0.165 µg/g of mercury(42). In the same survey, USFDA reported mean mercury concentrations of 0.070 µg/g for pan-fried haddock, 0.029 µg/g for salmon, and 0.027 µg/g for boiled shrimp. Table 1. Estimated daily intake and retention (µg /day) of elemental and mercuric compounds in the general population not occupationally exposed to mercury* Exposure Elemental mercury vapour, µg /day Inorganic mercury compounds µg /day Methylmercury µg /day intake/retention intake/retention intake/retention Air 0.030 (0.024) 0.002 (0.001) 0.008 (0.0064) Food -fish 0 0.600 (0.042) 2.4 (2.3) Food -non-fish 0 3.6 (0.25) 0 Drinking water 0 0.050 (0.0035) 0 Dental amalgam 3.8-21 (3-17) 0 0 Total 3.9-21 (3.1-17) 4.3 (0.3) 2.41 (2.31) * Environmental Health Criteria 101: Methylmercury. Geneva: World Health Organization, 1990. Sources of mercury exposure in infants Typical dietary consumption of fish, including species mentioned above, by pregnant or lactating women, can result in fetal or infant mercury exposure far exceeding those from thimerosal-containing vaccines, since these compounds can cross the placenta and are also excreted in breast milk(10,19,31,43). The U.S. EPA estimates that 7% of U.S. women of childbearing age consume >= 0.1 µg/kg per day of mercury from fish harvested in high risk areas(44). http://jcn.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/19/6/431 http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/publicat/ccdr-rmtc/02vol28/dr2809ea.html This above a very good read. Best not give a can of Tuna to your kids because there is far more mercury in that (and Lead) than in a vaccine and no more dental visits for an amalgam filling.
