Yea a few have "borrowed a few of my stories too" oh well shit happens, when TV writers get a drift of things then its BS personified, that annoyed me a TV series based in Jasper National Park, and heck for the life of me I can't remember the name of the TV series. About Wardens in a fictious National Park anyway Bruce Greenwood, an actor I met on a little known movie called Striker's Mountain (oh and my 2.5 minutes of fame as an extra) well after that filming ended we took him on a ride along with us ... funny how attending a rescue became part of another twisted episode. Anyways so off topic. But no word of a lie, had a patient on the the old THUMPER, and this years ago he was awake and grabbed bloody my arm in ER scared the ever loving crap out of me! We would turn it off and he was flat, turn it on and he was a GCS of 14. Had family come in and said goodbyes after about an hour as he was complaining about the pain, heck every drug under the sun even had cardiology float a temp pacer but no capture. In this biz and just when you think you have seen it all, you get a wake up, maybe thats the way its supposed to be ? cheers

Nice find Richard ... and there is a Canadian connection in the related links .. nice. SSG Gman I deplore you PLEASE DON'T bring MASH 4077 anywhere near this topic, Trauma is no wear near even deserving even to mention in passing. Oh and if you go on line with NBC multiple sites JEMs and EMS1 you will find that as a EMS group this has stimulated a huge outcry. cheers
-
Well when I look in Lone Stars eyes .... oh sorry off topic.
-
Most excellent point, in OR all patients eyes recieve "goo" and taped. More freaky is an old partner he sleep with his eyes open ... now that was just un-nerving and if you shook him to wake him up for a call he would jump scare the crap out of me, even though one knew he was going to do.

I am a STRONG advocate for this Vaccination, H1N1 stop it in its tracks because if it mutates and it will we could be in a real world of hurt. Problem is we don't have it available in Kanukistan yet sheesh ... my name has been placed on a list for Emergency call out in event of pandemic as an RRT ... so best have a room in cells for me as I will not set foot in a hospital until I receive it, ps have also been in my own ICU as a patient for a viral pneumonia ... not doing that again thanks. I have also volunteered to assist in administration as I have a friend that is a Health Advisor for a First Nations reserve right close to my house. Word has it that compliance with HCW is not good ... so could we be part of the problem ... I say yes. cheers

Thanks Ruff, appreciate the leg work. Point in fact, the PEN is mightier than the Sword. edited for incorrect smiley . cheers

A very good question, firstly take the emotion out of this "hate" this is constructive criticism with literary licence. Firstly: Informed consumers do change change marketing, information on trans fats for example was affected by Vortmann's cookies when the Presidents daughter became a nutritionist and said Daddy we are killing people with this shit, when government regulators dragged there feet and ignored the researchers .. more than one way to skin a cat, so if we stop watching and don't voice our opinions its like the ostrich putting it's head in the sand = apathy. (and just a very effective example is all) Secondly: Because vast majority on this EMT City site do strive for professionalism, we take the time to support the newer folks, with stimulating conversation regarding many aspects off and on the job, present evidence based medicine and the controversy (oh and debate) and develop an international website for an exchange of ideas .... oh, last but not least have some FUN. Watch it, make notes and write letters ... as the pen IS mightier than the sword. cheers

Ready willing and quite capable, unlike swooning young sluts looking for a back stage pass. Well yes everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it is absolutely groundless, just this crazy wacker believes that this melina / hemoptysis is no where a tangible or realistic attempt to "bring our profession to the public" in any way shape or form. So your saying we should we calmly agree with idiotic procedures ok laughable see above dissection(s) break every rule possible for safety have you seen the keystone medics wear a seat belt? now entering an unsafe scene, texting on scene, landing helos in metropolitan area's or just spread the disease of sensationalism and attract more "hero"s to the profession. No reply required thanks. Just to start with, I would be most pleased to personally volunteer to teach WABBIT to do CPR prpoerly the most BASIC of the Basics ... oh stcommodore do you have a valid card ? cheers Bryan please shield Randolf Mantooth from the poor acting too.

So yup I watched it too again .. my bad ... don't answer that and posted these comments in other threads but thought I would add to this Slag Fest as it is well deserved. So here is what I learned: Pop eyes back into sockets from a MBA from poly trauma and when jogging by a scene, WOW it works to. And now one can land a 212 in a school yard without any LZ safety officers. .... got to love this downtown landing stuff, The best part (well thats just me) inducing hypothermia in a possible spinal cord injury and with one liter NS IV and because I read it in a medical journal once ... so wheres the barf smiley again ? Then IM (somewhere in the arm) 4 mgs ? of Narcan for a tramadol OD um is that an opiate now (sorry don't have instant rewind on that one to catch all the other rx) and supposedly in a mixed OD but never bother clearing or open an airway and THEN claim a drunk driving into your house saved your child's life ? Ah ain't that nice of whatever her name is. Gets better folks .. Pericardiocentesis for penetrating chest wound ie GSW thats a its because of JVD ... no monitor, no O2, no line, no BPs just stick needles in hearts for the hell of it ... she must have lived, don't they all ? NOW episode 2 and Rabbit Stew still doesn't know how to do ****ING CPR !??? On a guy that just shot him ? too bad he missed the head shot, looked like a 44 or 357 yup all super hero's just get up off the floor after taking that many foot pounds. The saddest thing is that Antony Dinozzos ex Dr. Heart Break has been demoted to an mere nurse but is now hitting on a Da Wabbit ... I think I am going to cry for poor Tony D or will we find out that Wabbit is really Gay, it is in SF after all ... te he. Well the good thing is no one was sitting beside me when I watched this trash, the neighbor did knock on the door and ask what the screaming was all about ... then the RCMP and ..oh never mind Somebody Please Tell me this is supposed to be a comedy for EMS and good thing is only 8 more episodes to go before its cancelled, and oh and its Thanksgiving day here in Kanukistan ..I am very thankful that this CRAP wasn't filmed in Vancouver. cheers ps Honestly the saddest thing is that I contacted 4 female ex partners and apparently I am the only one has never been lucky in the back of a truck ... AND despite my blue flight suit. Hah Ha on the ropes after episode #3 This is the swill they are promoting:http://tvseriesfinal...rauma-petition/ Quote Trauma revolves around a group of brave men and women who risk their lives to save others. But now, it’s them who need the saving. The ratings for NBC’s new high-action drama have not been good and, unless they improve, Trauma will be cancelled. Remember, the most important thing to NBC is for people to watch the show on their television sets while it’s being broadcast. Downloading, watching online, or watching on a DVR days later is all very nice but it really doesn’t help a show’s ratings. Good luck with that.

AK maybe you forgot to mention with CPS or EOD teams that there is no medivac bird on call there is very little back up and if your not with a very tight team ... YOU could be the one that gets whacked, and then sent back home as ashes with no pomp or spender to your mommy .... am looking for Jerrys book and website "Give Me Shelter" or something like that ??? A list of those KIA on a grander scale that what CNN announces. I lost the link with new plastic brain ... Triple Canopy hires Mercs, ex SAS, ex FFL, ex Para Rescue and a variety of rather hardened but very experienced medic operators. cldutcher: If you are looking to "work offshore" have at it and try these site(s) to get your feet wet first. http://www.winterharbor.net/offshore3.html http://www.globalmedicine.net/ http://www.frontiermedical.co.uk/ http://www.internationalsos.com/en/index.htm?CFID=26813369&CFTOKEN=97619394 cheers and good luck

Should you withhold Pain Meds if close to hospital?
tniuqs replied to spenac's topic in Patient Care
Agreed. Yes again agreed, I have never been reprimanded by an MD although with RNs there can be a component of professional jealousy underlying and axes to grind very dependent on the RN, in vast majority of cases have to be approved by an MD first as we on occasions can be considered renegades thing is you just can't please everyone, so take care of the patient's needs first is my mantra. Point in fact and a wee diversion,I had 2 patients both chewed on by a Grizzly Bear ... landed @ with helo and had to be grounded into a less than stellar rural ER and being well aware of the delays in assessment, quite typical for that less than stellar facility. I did not push that extra top up for break through pain (later became waste) this before a 12 minute ground transport ... well yeah know I will always regret that as once through the hospital door I was not "allowed" to use my own meds ... The MD kinda pissed me off too and the patient and because despite my suggestion of top up with my own meds and soaking off with N/S the now clotted and dried dressing (a major avulsion) and against the patients request too, he ripped it off causing more pain in his haste to "assess" ... live and learn I guess. spenac: On another note, I would be cautious as one operation I worked for did evaluate the high narcotic usage of one fellow Medic ...to find that he was having some personal issues with controlled substances and got caught red handed umm how can I put this .... pocketing the waste so watch your back and document very well with a independent and trusted co signer. ps Billy Smack is no longer on the streets, thank you very much. cheers -
So are You saying its WRONG to demand/hope that the accuracy of medicine will ever be improved or realistically portrayed on TV and its acceptable to observe a flat line on a monitor when even with the crew is using electricity ? .. come on really please, you as most others could have fallen into the trap of TV mindless escapism. Heck my Son who is 17 knows the difference and WHY is because of the great work done by the Public Access to Defibrillator(s) These comments smack of apathy and no offence but just accepting a "status quo" is getting really damn lame in my books, societally speaking. Point being that Holly Rude will ride the horse of complacency and inaccuracy and follow the equation sex + explosions = success until something changes ... I am hoping the messages sent via electronic media could be a positive influence, well thats my wish for today. Well you do make a point there but I have only seen episode # uno ... in episode #2 has the FAA determined that landing a medium on a roof top was against the regs ? Have the police looked into the drunk that lost his finger because Rabbit was driving like an idiot? Has the medical director looked at the records on the monitor to see that protocol was not followed. Ok I could go on but my waffle is ready .... cheers

Should IV Ventolin be considered for suspected H1N1 patients?
tniuqs replied to rock_shoes's topic in Patient Care
Agreed the Ontario EMS and even TO ICUs were caught with there pants down ... live and learn, as for Spacers and MDI the Galaxo studies suggest that this was a superior method of delivery with radioactive partial trace. I have many queries about that study BUT that said with the possibility of increasing volume of airborne infected partials it becomes a no brainer really ... now back to the thread IMHO IV salbutamol this is a damn big hammer and unless one is predisposed to Asthmatic response and is in status and extremus there are other ways to treat, intubated and on vaporizer circuits now here aminophyllyne has gone the way of the dodo bird due to the very "tight" therapeutic margin and cardiovascular collapse is a real consideration, that said a GREAT reversal agent with persantine challenges. Big thing right now (kinda off topic) is availability of inoculations (maybe some time late October ???) in Canada (thats like wheeling the Trojen Hourse in the front gate and closing the door AND then compliance issue with the all HCW .... I will be the FIRST kid on my block to be standing in that line. cheers ps and dont get me going on humidified O2 from a bubble humidifier ... thats a joke ... really really.
