  1. From NY 1 TV http://www.ny1.com/c...es/?ArID=121557 (Sorry, the video only works if you go through the link.)
  2. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/heroic_emt_slain_in_klyn_yW4NCiJ8XYMDiZLdNdwERI </h1>
  3. Unless you are ready to invest in a few gallons of Peanut Butter and Jelly, and a ton of whole wheat bread, that might not be such a good idea either (keep the cleaning supplies at the ready if you do!)
  4. Just a nice one, reported on WABC (HD) TV-7, NY, a station usually critical of the EMS Command of the FDNY. http://abclocal.go.c...ocal&id=7536189
  5. It is with regret, We announce the passing of EMT-B Kelvin Buggs. My information is skimpy at this time, but it appears while off duty, he tried breaking up a fight, and got stabbed to death. As of this posting, the NYPD has not yet made an arrest. I will post more when I have further information.
  6. Check the word processor in your computer, mine has some good stuff could be used. I mentioned prison time earlier. Let me add to that, they should be documented in the federal database that the LEOs use to find out if a vehicle they stopped, and the persons inside it, might be wanted in another jurisdiction, aside from where they were stopped. I think the database is called NCIC, but I am hazy as to what the initials stand for (National Criminal Information Computer?).
  7. I am not one for dancing, due to my bad knees, but I am doing a deep bow from the waist towards you in Florida in recognition of the achievement.
  8. Do you think 180 decibels is enough? NYPD is now experimenting with the Rumbler Effect sirens, a Federal Signal device, if memory serves.
  9. I have to stay with cookie cutter answers. If local protocols allow, and the need arises, do what you have to do. Follow your local protocols, or work, with documentation supporting another way, to changing those protocols. Don't follow the new possible protocols until they are made YOUR OFFICIAL Protocols by the medical director.
  10. Don, I thought you knew that deliberately using the Q word like that never works?
  11. I feel sorry for the symbolic "Black Eye" these jerks left you with, Partner!
  12. His last entry was June 1st. Was he deployed anywhere, as far as anybody knows? I guess the only way to bring him out of hiding is to say something derogatory about Chuck Norris, Dust's personal deity. Not me, to do so would be against my religion: I'm a devout coward!
  13. Guess what? She broke the law, and is being punished. I don't know about that. Lone Star had it correct... Don't even get me started on the CPR protocol of the Pre-Cardial Thump. That has changed so many times on my 37 years as an EMT. I don't even know if it is still used in any manner, shape or form, by either American Heart Association or American Red Cross standards anymore. Terry Urekew ... believes the state has done an injustice to her colleagues. If you're working as an EMT or Paramedic, when you knowingly don't have the license or certification, you're taking work away from persons who earned the titles. You don't qualify for the job, hence, it can NOT be your livelihood. It could be considered Felony/criminal impersonation. No fines for the miscreants, here, or simply banning them from becoming EMTs or Paramedics at some later time. They might go to a different state or provence, and there apply again for the job. No! Give them new jobs. Have them make small rocks out of large rocks at the local Bureau of Prisons for a year and a day! While there are some who accuse me of being a lackadaisical EMT, those accusers at least know I passed the classes for my level of training, same as them.
  14. What a concept. I admit uncertainty, here. What are the guidelines your agency follows? What does your OLMC have for these kind of situations? My local protocols are to have a LEO accompany the patient. I don't know about drugging an EDP for transport, as the person, especially if violent, or potentially violent, is going to be in restraints, by the LEOs. I've only had one patient in an "I love myself" shirt (Straitjacket), and he was sedated for an hour and a half trip, yet he got out of the jacket enough to light up a cigarette. The admissions officer put the scare into me at the end of the transport. Seems the patient was a homicidal suicidal EDP, and that fact didn't get told me until they were admitting him.
  15. I have to agree with you on that one, unfortunately.
  16. I get the joke content. Aside from installing an LED moving signboard, rigged so the driver can read the message in their mirror, what real time, non insulting messages would youze guyz suggest? Lets be real, don't try humorous at this juncture.
  17. Actually, I think they do! http://www.hasbro.com/shop/details.cfm?guid=93C25062-6D40-1014-8BF0-9EFBF894F9D4&product_id=21204&src=endeca
  18. That was some strange stuff. It just proves what they said in that baseball movie
  19. All of my NYPD and Nassau County Police Department friends will tell you, there is NO such thing as a "Routine" traffic stop. The LEOs never know who is in the car, or in the car with "friendlies", unarmed, or armed to the teeth. While the originator of my mantra is of Television fiction, the words still ring true: I add my condolences to the families, and extended families, of these 2 officers, and get well wishes to the people receiving the organ transplants from them. So true, brother!
  20. I just looked up the group, and on their "About Us" page they say (http://www.college-n...asp?faq=whatis) I admit, up front, some confusion on this. It almost sounds like a "no previous experience needed" on line "Challenge Exam".
  21. Your people giving the same BS of "not accepting it AT THIS TIME, but hold on to it in case we do" line?
  22. Some of you might know, by reading my postings, and others from New York State, that the NYS DoH is in the process of implementing a "5 Year Continuing Medical Education" program for EMT-B re certification, as opposed to 3 year re certification classes. They are still trying to decide of EMTs in "non-patient contact" areas should or should not be included in the program. Non patient contact areas would be EMTs working in areas where they do support service type work, but have no usual patient contact. There is an in-house discussion on this, as the FDNY EMD call-takers, by talking with patients on the phone, or giving pre-arrival first aid instructions, are making patient contact, but the dispatchers, who primarily talk to EMTs and Paramedics via the radio, do not. Anyway, I take training for "CORE" areas (no idea what the acronym is), and "Bridge" classes, for any hour long drills I may have missed during any specific period, as given by the FDNY Division of Training, at somewhat regular intervals. I am also taking some classes outside the department, such as the seminars given at the "Pulse Check" Annual Convention, Educational Conference, and Trade Show, of the New York State Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Association (NYSVARA). At the NYSVARA event, we sign off on each class we take, with records to go to the DoH, BEMS (Bureau of EMS). We do the same with the FDNY D.O.T. Even before I entered the 5 year program, I had been bringing my "outside" class attendance proofs to the FDNY D.O.T. for recording, and get denied by them. At least they have the decency to tell me to hang on to it, because, as the entire program is in such state of flux, they won't accept them this week, but might next week.\ Somehow, the system works. My last full refresher class was 3 years ago, and I got my card at that time. Today, I just got a new EMT card in the mail, good until 2015! Not bad for someone who, due to injuries, has been working "inside" for the last 3 years. (I've been running the FDNY Bureau of Health Services Duty Determination Clinic's Triage Room, taking BPs for the most part. It's Patient Contact!)
  23. Try the FDNY Counseling Services Unit (CSU). Someone there might be better with information than I have available. http://nyc.gov/html/fdny/html/units/csu/index.shtml
  24. Unfortunately, I now can answer my own question. The event was a one time live streaming event.
  25. My answers in Bold Italics. I have my own question: As it was presented on line, is it still available for viewing, or was it a "live only" "stream?"
