  1. In answer to Public Enemy's "9-1-1 is a Joke", a few members of NYC HHC EMS created this one, as an answer. It dates to the "Green and White" days, and I no longer remember names, but at least one of my EMS Academy (Nurses Residence Building at Queens General) classmates (NEOP 85-02) appears in it. http://www.bing.com/...f45-58684014747 Keep it safe, and I hope to see you in LIC in June, Farooq.
  2. An associate of mine on Facebook just gave me something to pass along to EMT City members, who are also Facebook members. Scroll down to the bottom of the facebook page, and click on where they have the "English-US" link, then click on "English-Pirate", and read what comes up. Just a minor bit of humor, but some here will probably enjoy.
  3. Confirming that the NYPD, on the new cars coming into service, have the "Rumbler" effect on the siren. As for the Electronic Q, I haven't heard it, but suspected it would be as described here.
  4. Before ER diagnosis of an inbleed (Right femoral artery aneurysm, secondary to a cardiac stent insertion) I was in intense pain, 11 of 10 (!), and the morphine injection had no effect. 5. tskstorm: Are you in EMS long enough to remember the Federal "Q" siren? Loudest vehicle mounted electrical/mechanical siren I know of, and actually needed a brake to stop it. I had one on my first ambulance, itself a Caddylance.
  6. If advertisement slogans are internationally copyrighted, Weet Bix might be in trouble with the General Mills company, regarding their product, Wheaties. "Breakfast Of champions" has been Wheaties' slogan for longer than I can remember.
  7. 1) We might be talking about the other type alien, not Extra Terrestrials. Actually, I am certain of this. 2) If the school no longer exists, how could someone sue for monies at the defunct school? Should I, as an American, sue King George the Third of England for damages to buildings done by "Redcoats" fighting us in the name of said king, during the American War For Independance, 1775-1780? 3) The delay could be attributed to "Lifeguard" not looking at his E-Mail every day. I don't do that, but he, and others, might. Momma B might let 3 or 4 days go by without checking, and there is nothing wrong with that.
  8. I think I'm going to research if people who are allergic to bee stings are allergic to all bee stings, or just to one or two specific types of bee sting. Due to the Yellow Jac stings I referred to earlier (how the heck was I supposed to know there was a nest under the rock I innocently moved? I was 5!,) there could be potential to me now being allergic to the Yellow Jac sting. I will state the obvious, All of us are allergic to the pain of a bee sting, notwithstanding if we are allergic to the stinger venom. OK, a quick web search later, from About.Com:Allergies, Bee Sting Allergies
  9. I differ with Herbie1, take as needed, as necessary, and try to not get addicted to them. With all else, you don't need that as an additional problem. ...but here, I am in full agreement!
  10. The only "sound of the rotating lights" I am usually aware of, is my dash magnetic mounted light, as it is, after all, INSIDE the car.
  11. I don't recall the source of my information, therefore the possibility of inaccuracy exists, but here goes: Due to the aggressive nature of "Africanized" or "Killer" bees, a standard Beekeeper outfit may not offer enough protection. They will also claim territory, sometimes as much as 3 or more times what normal bees would protect when they feel threatened. They will attack on the vibration of a car door slamming closed, if in their "territory".
  12. You seem to be of the opinion that this was a career ender. What do the doctors (ER, surgeon, yours, rehab, departmental) say?
  13. MAS Medic: I went to the Federal GSA website, and found a "live link", where the following conversation happened... I don't know what state you are in, therefore I suggest you contact the equivalent in your home state. Good luck. Richard B, the EMT.
  14. Actually, in da eyes of dis allegedly jaded Noo Yawkah, we are da sane ones, and da rest of youze guyz on da rest of da planet, are da wierd ones! It's all a matter of perspective!
  15. Testimony in the upcoming lawsuit, based on the accumulated knowledge of those of us on this forum? Donno 'bout dat; we're highly divided on the topic, as all can read here already, prior to my posting this reply.
  16. 1) A "pram" is a perambulator, better known as a "baby carriage". So you are correct. 2) I'd take it under consideration that any outdoors train or subway train platform might be angled to allow drainage of rainwater, however slight the angle might be. 3) Not superhuman, just damned lucky. An inch any direction, once they land, could be the difference between a really bouncy ride under the cars, dismemberment, or death. This also applies to grownups who end up on the tracks, for whatever reason.
  17. While I don't know either the name of the company or individual, when beehives get TV attention, NYPD ESU (Emergency Services Unit) has somebody on speed dial. As for smoke, isn't it some specific type smoke, that doesn't harm the bees? OK, rescuers stage from a distance away, don their PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), as in turnout coat, pants, boots, gloves, and Air Purification Respirators (gas masks) without the filtering cartridge, or SCBA, and then while so clothed, effect the rescue like the "hot" zone of a chemical spill. As stated, if the bees feel the queen bee is not threatened, once past the distance, the "warm" zone can be set up, and also the "cold" and treatment areas. Just remember, this is my theory, my only real experience with bees is yellow jacks. They got me 50 stings at one time, so what a way to start the vacation of a 5 year old at camp! Also, considering the problems with bees dying off (I forget the name of the syndrome), this is a loss, even for this city dweller.
  18. My 12 year old geek can do it in 8 seconds, and 2 keystrokes.
  19. Mobey, you force me to quote, of all people, Robin Williams (again!):
  20. As one who posted on every episode of TRAUMA, Marisa definately held a firearm on only 1 episode, and I think, on another: the one where she and her "Anger Management" needing boyfriend went on the "firing range" date, and the flashback to when she admitted having been previously married, having come home, finding hubby in bed with another woman, and the woman, running from Marisa, fell. Marisa then rendered aid. I think Marisa had a weapon in that flashback sequence. It was Winston Churchill, who stated This could probably be applied to all countries' legal systems
  21. Off topic, but... Weet Bix has been mentioned numerous times in EMT City. What is/are they, and what country are they from? Is/are it a food, or a snack food? If I understand the concept, this Weet Bix comes with some prize or minor gift in the box, like Cracker Jacks. Is that the case?
  22. Lifeguard: Did you know the item allegedly not taught was going to be an important part of the test given? If known in advance, is there any possibility you could have approached your "instructor/coordinator" (New York State terminology for an EMS instructor), and said, "we haven't gone over this item, and I believe we should", or gone over it with a student run study group? Also, with the spelling I see you using, I am presuming you are in the UK, or a former UK country. Is this the case? I heard nothing of a strike anywhere in the US, so I ask. (edit due to an accidental doubleposting)
  23. I haven't used the multi-quote yet. If I am quoting several portions of one poster's posting, or quoting several people, I use the "quote" button, edit it down to the one or two lines I am interested in, post them, and then repeat the process on other lines, or other poster's lines, and hope nobody else puts up a posting while I am doing it. If done quickly enough, it will go in as one posting, not an edited post. If someone does put up a posting, my next entry will be taken as a new posting.
  24. It's a toss-up, between requesting assistance from animal control, or HazMat. I understand some bees, when they sting, leave their stingers in the victim, but in doing so, tear the stingers off, and they bleed to death. Anybody with bee knowledge know if the bees in this incident were of that type? I'm buzzing with anticipation for an answer.
  25. I have heard of, but not seen for myself, a type petit-mal seizure, with the subject sitting and staring at something only they could see. The subject would be oblivious to the immediate world for a short period, with no tremors noted at all. It was supposed to be noted primarily in pre-teens, when the student was called on by, but not responding to, the teacher. This case was one of my mother's "home instruction" students, and further mentioned this condition started a few years before she had him as a student, when he recieved a head injury from an assault.
