  1. Re the snowbirds and retirees moving to Florida and/or Arizona from New York City... Momma B is breaking the law. She retired as a New York City Teacher, and didn't move to either of those states, remaining in New York City. Supposedly, all teacher retirees by law must move to Florida!
  2. Tom Cruise I know of, likewise Chuck, Arnie, some of the Kennedys. But who is Salmon? (You do realize that was a LOL?)
  3. I need a clarification on something I must have missed. After Rabbit got the guy into the ambulance, was his uniform dry by the time they found out about the pregnant woman still on the boat? Continuity problem if he dried out so quick. ScoobyKate, that was something (item # 24) I feel embarrassed to have missed. Good catch!
  4. "They are the envy of the uncivilised world," he says. American versus UK English spelling notwithstanding, he betrays the UK with HIS uncivilized attacks on a 36 year experience EMT (NOT a Paramedic). He keeps implying I didn't respond in a timely fashion to a call, when, in fact, I did. I repeat my question of how many years has he been working on an ambulance? Then, there is the question of the United States' late entry into the world wars. In the case of the First World War, it was because of the German torpedoing of the Lusitania (spelling?), a UK flagged ocean liner. Even though the German Embassy had posted advertisements in local New York papers that anyone in transit on UK flagged shipping was endangered of being torpedoes, the fact that so many Americans were killed on that ship, we decided to avenge them, and in addition to material support, we sent troops and ships. (I will bow to the conspiracy mongers, who say the Royal Mail Ship Lusitania was carrying ammunition for England, which was triggered into a secondary explosion by the torpedo from the German U-Boat: Divers exploring the wreck have seen damage supporting this theory) For the Second World War, yes, Germany and the UK had been slugging it out from 1938 (I think). We entered the war, due to the sneak attack by Japan at the American bases at Pearl Harbor, "Battleship Row", Hickham Field Air Base, and the surrounding areas of the Hawiian Islands. Japan and Germany had agreements to support each other, so we ended up in a two ocean war. And a point of order, here: Britain has also made mistakes in war. They sent an old, proud warship that was not properly equipped with armorplating against the most superior battleship of the day. The HMS Hood never got a shot off, when the first volley from Bismark hit her, and caused her to sink in less than 10 minutes, with great loss of life of HMS Hood's crew.
  5. 1) We now know a bit more of Nancy's background. She gave up her training to become an MD 7 years ago. 2) The window washer's scaffold is an old standby in shows like this, but at least this one had a safety harness. 3) The window washer's fall partially broke the window. Why didn't the rescuers take the window out, and bring him in that way? 4) Rabbit rappels down the side of the building with the Fire/Rescue guy? 5) The washer's death grip can be a powerful thing, as they practically had to crowbar him off of his "perch". 6) I believe I am NOT the only one to yell at a CPR patient to come back here. 7) Rabbit exhibited bad protocol, which most of us have also done, of riding the rails of the gurney, and performing one handed compressions. 8) "Fly-girl" Marissa yells at Rabbit for her perception of his "heartlessness". 9) SFFD doesn't have a weekly or monthly overtime "cap"? How many consecutive tours can Boone's partner do before drawing reprimands, or overtime denials. 10) Does anyone know if it is possible to have a caffeine "high", or even an overdose? 11) Good catch of the diabetic elderly "drama queen". 12) What was that bit of blowing into the tube? Is it an ALS protocol I haven't seen my paramedics do? 13) Under the "guy's unwritten laws" area, is it not understood that you don't discuss a girl you might soon be "banging," with the girl you are already "banging", as Glen did with the intern? 14) I cannot say about California, but maritime DWI laws exist here in New York State. 15) Hey! They violated a principal of "Reel" life versus "Real" life. When any vehicle hits another vehicle hard and fast enough, the film MUST have one, or both, of the vehicles explode! 16) Re #8, Marissa has obvious differences of opinions with Rabbit on how and when to exhibit emotions on a patient dying on you. 17) Angel 2 doesn't have float-pontoons, and Rabbit went into the water without a life vest, as neither are really an "Air/Sea Rescue" unit. 18) Was the on-board Triage done using START, or SMART? 19) How many times is a patient going to be unsecured in the ambulance or helicopter, and then attack the crews? Seat Belts are there for a reason, and if the patient starts removing them, it's a good sign trouble is about to follow, language barrier not withstanding 20) Marissa is packing heat! I think i saw a 2 inch barrel .38 "Dick Tracy" 5 shot revolver. Why is she packing? Also, why didn't they address the fact that a pilot/EMT had the piece with her at work, in midair? Does either California or San Fran law allow either ambulance or Medevac personnel to carry? I make my repeated statement that either having a "piece" on board an FDNY vehicle, or on the grounds of a department facility, except for the Fire Marshals, is grounds for departmental termination of employment. 21) Adding to the sinking boat, the missing woman is under the smaller boat through the side of the larger one, and possibly full term pregnant. 22) Strike that! She is either full term, or trauma induced labor. No Braxton/Hicks here! 23) Add more drama, with a limb presentation birth, complicated by the baby';s delivery causing pressure on the umbilicus. 24) Of course the baby is in arrest, and of course, Rabbit does successful CPR to revive the newborn. 25) I pity the child, as it appears that, through the English/Hungarian translations, they are going to name him after his savior. They are going to name him Rabbit! (Rabbit's real name is Reuben, for the trivia experts amongst us) 26) After transfer of care to the hospital staff of mother, father, and baby, Rabbit kind of collapses back into his seat in the helicopter. He is either exhibiting emotional or physical exhaustion, proving that our superhero is human, after all. 27) Nancy's dad is a surgeon, and she understands his upset at himself when he was unable to save his best friend of many years. Perhaps that is why she mentions her cases are 10 to 30 minutes long, and easier to endure? 28) Rabbit does his best explanation to Marissa that both "wins" and "losses" do affect him, but the ways of dealing with it are going to be different from one individual to another. 29) Nice last touch, that of Marissa putting the stork onto the instrument panel.
  6. I am outnumbered by Chuck Norris fans on this site. Be prepared for trouble in Chuck's name, is all I can say.
  7. Not all fire departments use red vehicles. I have seen white, and even black, fire company paint jobs, just around New York State. That is not mentioning that new checkerboard design I see on some of the ambulance manufacturer's print ads in JEMS.
  8. I see. Kind of like how Sheila is a generic for Austrailian women?
  9. While regrettable, sometimes the school WILL be either the green or red light towards employment. I recall an EMT school that had so many complaints against it's graduates, the state actually closed the school, and recinded all the certs of the graduates, as well as the certs of the instructors AS instructors. Don't ask for specifics, this was over 20 years ago.
  10. As Momma B is hard of hearing, I have explored flashing and strobe alerting devices to go off when the telephone rings. Perhaps someone could convert one of these devices to activate when a radio signal "breaks the squelch" on a Motorola Minitor pager, or competing brand pager/monitor. (Due to pride, Momma B won't let me purchase and install such device on the telephone)
  11. 1) Go with the points reduction class, if only for yourself. 2) Does your area allow for EMTs who treat only, and don't drive the ambulances? I would explore this possibility.
  12. While the various states reserve the right to call each level of care provider by whatever name and title they want, it sounds like the alphabet soup of EMT, EMT-D, EMT-IV, EMT-B, EMT-CC, EMT-P, and even one I heard of called an EMT-4(P), will be cut down. Some standardization will take hold, at least in theory.
  13. You're looking for a lens for an emergency beacon? Start with answering the question of, "What brand is the beacon?" Then, you might contact the manufacturer of the beacon for further information, or start your e-bay parts search.
  14. I know of no ambulances or fire companies that have this type device in either NYC or NY State, but they have them on numerous NYPD Highway Patrol cruisers and local precinct cars. It does grab your attention, if only for a "what IS that?" reaction.
  15. I think I've heard of that Waco woman before. Seems she picked up a guy, real skinny, thick glasses, and so stereotyped, if you look up "Nerd" in the picture dictionary, it shows a photograph of him. Anyway, she took him home, and bade him get stripped down, as she went into another room,,, And returned with a 5 year old boy, whom she told
  16. Rabbit is actually from Austrailia. Is Bluey another nom de plume?
  17. He goes to jail, he'll get sex. Bubba needs a new boyfriend, I'm told. He broke his last one in half, as Bubba is not known to be gentle.
  18. Could someone either post links showing the mechanical CPR devices mentioned, or pictures of them? Thanks.
  19. Momma B is a WW2 WAC PFC, and member of several veterans groups. She is a Past Commander of the Queens County, New York, Jewish War Veterans of the United States. I showed this string to her. She asked me, on behalf of all veterans, here in the US, in Canada, the UK, and other countries that were a part of the Allies, to tell all those who posted
  20. 1) Glen admitted he messed up, causing the ambulance crash. 2) How often in real life, as in "reel' life, someone not involved in someone else's dispute gets hurt, in this case, shot. 3) It is never a good thing when a cop gives anyone, even one who deserves it, a "tune-up". 4) Nancy and Glen refuse to take the "tune-up" patient? Perhaps they want to avoid any further contact with the cop doing the beat down? 5) Now a minor detail of the story line, Boone's partner discusses his breakup with his boyfriend, over going "Green"? 6) "Flygirl" Marissa's boyfriend makes me uneasy, telling Rabbit he kills people for a living, even though he is in the military. 7) 2 guys in car in MVA, but 1 was refused Medevac? I'd think the JAFO could have been put off the helo that 2 could have been taken at 1 time. 8) Rabbit continues CPR on un-salvageable Aortic Tear? Dramatic effect, or just blind dedication to hopeless cause? 9) "Tune-up" being investigated. Good. However, Nancy and Glen should have thought out that they would be called, and gotten the story together before being told not to talk about it. 2 stories didn't jive. 10) MVA patient understandably hysterical over being told his buddy died, after Rabbit's "assurance" he would be OK. However, a chemical "restraint?" 11) Glen in trouble with other EMTs and Paramedics for spilling on the cop. 12) Injury becoming Domestic Violence, good move calling cops. Then deteriorates into moving hostage situation, perhaps. Ambulance in pursuit? Really? 13) Nancy and Glen seem to be doing a lot of claim-jumping of calls, taking over the hostage situation. 14) How many LEOs have semiautomatic rifles in regular patrol cars? Now, thieves will be breaking into unattended cop cars, looking for the heavy artillery. 15) Oops, now our bad cop interferes with the EMS crew, following it by assaulting Glen. Not followed up on, but Glen can bring assault charges on the cop. 16) On realizing there were cops in the bar, Glen never should have entered. Likelihood of real "Battle of the Badges" looming. 17) Rabbit made good point on how the incident would get large type "stupid" if everyone didn't back down, including himself. 18) MVA surviving patient not "secured", and angry enough to assault someone while looking for his DOA buddy. 19) I think I should have seen it coming that Marissa's "Door Gunner" boyfriend would bed her down. 20) Classy, yet somewhat sleazy, touch to let him have a good time before turning him over to the MPs for being AWOL. Wait, she didn't turn him in, she made it easy for him to surrender. Charges will not be as severe that way, when he gets the court marshal. 21) Now an EDP patient gets kidnapped to morgue by Rabbit, who admits he lied to calm down the survivor saying the DOA would be all right. Now, all trust by family members/bystanders of field crews eroded due to that episode and comment. 22) Known EDP approached without PD backing? At least in protecting Nancy, possible justification in Glen giving someone a "tune-up". I emphasize, "Possible".
  21. OK, tniuqs, we may be falling into my usual situation mentioned, that of different localities, counties, states or provences, and countries having different protocols, even if said areas are next to each other. NYC opened up schools on the weekend as medical PODs for school children, but few parents brought any in. Actually, from what I heard, there were more elderly came seeking the vaccine for themselves than parents bringing in their children. Adults were turned away, but I think they changed their minds, and now elderly folks are being given, but that is hearsay, not documented as far as I know, for the city of New York.
  22. Forget the cop car following, this person violated "due regard" for any and all other vehicles on the road. As stated, "hazard lights", known in some sectors as "4 way" flashers, are not emergency lights. While helping move a friend, I thought I was doing the right thing by having my "blinkers" on, as I was one of 4 vehicles in our little convoy (I'll sing that song on a different venue). We were linked by radio, and he told me to cut the blinkers off, as it made me unable to use my lights as turn signals. OK, on that one, a "Fail" on me. There is always the story of the woman trying to drive her 5 year old to the hospital for an asthma episode, mid day, headlights on hi-beam, 4 ways going, and blowing her horn as she went through red light after red light. She believed she could get right of way to drive like that, after all, she had a sick child on board. She killed all 4 in the car that she broadsided, that had the green light, as well as her child, who was laying down across the back seat, unsecured, and was ejected.
  23. Although I was not giving any injections, but instead, was running a computer to log members of the department in and out of the location, I was a part of this. The information was supplied by the FDNY Office of Public Information. Fire Fighters, EMTs, and Paramedics had the right to refuse the injection, which I logged as either medically contra-indicated (they were mildly sick at the time), had already had the shot from somewhere else, or simply didn't want it. Each company was called in by turn, so as to not strip the respective areas of fire or EMS coverage. <H1 align=center> </H1>
  24. Is it time to beat the bush? LOL Welcome back!
  25. I've heard the audio a few times. Red was right in his statement!
