  1. I don't know. He was 18 and she was a divorced 40, back 1977 or so. I just found out she just died of cancer, and he is grieving. Sometimes it works out, despite the naysayers. On a different take, if the couple really should get divorced, it might not cause the male to live longer, it will just seem that way for the dude.
  2. First and foremost, I do not have a cell phone. Having stated that, I know there are some in the EMS, LEO and FD contingents that feel a picture helps the ER crews understand what happened at the scene of traffic accidents as an aid to showing method of injury. I might even have possibly had use of this when I could not derail a Trauma Center Doctor's concept, that a victim I brought him, with her scalp off in a glove type of injury during a kidnap/severe beating, had nothing to do with the beachfront boardwalk, located 40 feet away, laterally, and with a 2 foot elevation over the vacant lot where the patient was found alongside a roadway. He couldn't understand that she hadn't fallen from the boardwalk, and that she had been either beaten there, or dumped there after being beaten.
  3. It sounds good in theory, but we only had a rope on board my VAC for the first few years (1973-1976). Things to take into consideration are, is the area dry? Is the wire into a puddle? Has anyone on the non power company responders taken any classes or training sessions on dealing with downed power cables? I have been taught that, when a pole is knocked down, until the electric company can respond, cut off foot and vehicular traffic to an area roughly 2 poles further than the affected pole(s). I have also witnessed the fact that not all electrical overhead cables dance around wildly until the juice is cut off. They can be quite quiet while still being fully charged up.
  4. Hopefully, the autopsy will reveal what happened. I liked the Kung Fu and Kung Fu:Legend Continues series, and preferred his Death Race to the newer one.
  5. Maybe, or maybe not, but we sure have fun trying! George Burns used to say, he, at age 80, still chased women, he just couldn't remember why. And, as a mention, Lady J is 5 months my senior, my ex fiancee is a year and a half, and the first woman I asked to marry me (damn, I got the "Let's just be friends" speech), instead of being 2 years my junior, was a year older (Read the book "Lost Bird" by Yvette Melanson for explanation, and no, I am not mentioned in the book).
  6. You mean??? It ISN"T????
  7. When in doubt of what the doctor said, ask the doctor, even if it is a case of the patient themselves asking for the doctor speak with a friend/relative, and pass the phone to that friend/relative. Best bet is a relative in the room with the patient, second best is the ever popular method of bringing a pad of paper to write down what the doctor said, and then have the doctor review it to confirm what was said. Good luck on the outcome.
  8. Please! Don't tase me, bro!
  9. Sounds like you accept the premise that the state of Florida is the retirement community for the city of New York. By that premise, my mom, "Momma B", as a retired NYC Schoolteacher, is breaking the law that says she, after retiring, is supposed to have moved to Boca Raton, but instead, has remained in Belle Harbor, NYC, NY. Suggest you change the wording to "Longtimers", and translate what you mean by FOG. Thanks.
  10. If memory serves me correctly, in New York State, you can take the class, but must be 18 to sit for the state written test. I've heard some people celebrated their 18th birthday by taking the test, on the first day they were agewise elegible.
  11. That always seems to happen when folks don't know how to conduct themselves. Does he have an electric personality? Did he put light bulbs into the ground, thinking he'd grow an electric plant? (to borrow from my Wiccan friends) More Power to you! Perhaps he was so bright as a child, that the kinfolks called him "Sunny"?
  12. It matters not what service based area one works, it makes sense to try and keep any and all emergency vehicles either behind a closed fence or in a garage, while checking out whatever equipment is supposed to be aboard, or the vehicle itself, especially if the neighborhood is, shall we say, "Unsavory".
  13. Crocodiles? Alligators? Crockagators (crocodiles wearing alligator shoes)? Just watch out for those nasty Caimans! Enjoy the trip.
  14. Details, please, that those of us that are available at that time can make plans?
  15. I'm not going back, either, but within this discussion, we discussed what weaponry we'd need included in the $5K Wacker kit, to repel Zombie, Werewolf, and even Vampire attacks! No mention of attacks by the Martians, however. Then, again, there is movie writer/director Rob Zombie (I just saw the DVD of his "The Devil's Rejects")...
  16. Please provide some further information, and/or a link. Thanks in advance.
  17. In "the pahrmacy"? I didn't know you were from Boston.
  18. EMTBoy, you're probably finding out that there are Fire service based EMS, with either cross trained personnel or, as is the case with my FDNY EMS, EMS mission specific personnel, with CFR Engine companies sometimes assisting. There are also LEO based services, again with cross trained personnel, and mission specific personnel. There is also community based EMS (unpaid volunteers, usually), and proprietary ambulance services that do either inter facility transfers, 9-1-1 services, or combination of both. I might have left out other types. In each of them, you will find everybody swears by, or at, each type. Wait until the Dust Devil joins this string, you'll see what I mean, as he's opinionated, but has the jets to back up what he says. Oops, I have to translate here: LEO=Law Enforcement Officer, keeps us out of the name game of Constable/Police Officer/Sheriff's Deputy/Trooper.
  19. "Chicago Hope" initially went head to head with "ER". but I was ranting on "240 Robert", "Trauma Center", and "Rescue 77", which I argue were the worst US Television shows ever to depict EMS. Oh, there was a couple of weeks of a TV version of "Mother, Juggs and Speed", but got canceled due to low viewership. Love or loath the movie it was based on, the TV show was nowhere near as funny as the movie, IMHO. I just remembered: Harmon's "Chicago Hope" character was the first to use the (actual and unedited as here) phrase, "Shyte happens", when, in a death review, a man dies from what they never caught on to, that he had an allergic reaction to a police horse he placed his hand on in the park.
  20. Hey, Tim, in the month from when you originally posted this, has there been any update on the guy we're discussing?
  21. Guilty Has anyone of the same sex as you, kissed you on the lips (outside of any stage play you might have been involved with)? (I'm such a victim, and the kisser is now a Captain?)
  22. Oops, I had the title wrong, and there is already a link in the embedded window, under the video display, but here it is, anyway, called "Bodies R Hauled Off".
  23. I will be the first to say I do not like the "Rap" style of performance, but, within the genre, the piece was good. I'll get back to you with an earlier piece called "9-1-1 is NOT a joke", dating back to the HHC EMS days. I was a classmate of at least one of the people in that older one. PS: While Paramedic Mohammed is not exactly on a first name basis with me, I have met him, if briefly.
  24. Someone is correct that the leadsman is wearing an external carrier type soft body armor. I use the same type.
