  1. Bringing it all together, now let's have Captain "Sully" Sullenberger be on the flight crew that brings him back to the USA!
  2. How soon before the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) publicly go up in arms against this "cruel usage of animals" knocks the research down. Me personally? I'd give a guesstimate of a replacement grown human heart sometimes within a 20 year window. Before anyone asks, I base that on a total guess, based not on any facts currently in evidence, but extrapolating on current science. Also, I am kind of a member of the OTHER PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals.
  3. 1) Wish Central grants the Latte Machine, but the caffeine now has you so wired, when you're off, you cannot sleep, even though you want to. 2) Wish Central Doesn't need to grant that wish, as you are already saving the world, one life at a time, and sometimes 2 at a time! I wish I could come up with some better, not so lame, wishes to ask for..
  4. 1) Despite my longevity here on the EMT City site, I still need my memory jogged every now and again. I'd forgotten the initials SJA. 2) The quote from Mr. T, in "Rocky 3" is
  5. 1) Has this woman ever touched anyone with this arm, to the point that the person touched actually felt it? Yeah, I know, not covered in the article. 2) Amputees have reported having pain coming from somewhere on the amputated limb. Case in point, my father, a Below the Knee (BK) amputee, sometimes reported that his toes on the missing limb itched. 3) I have heard reports, over the last 3 decades, that Psychic researchers have been investigating reports of psychic limbs. One report was supposedly examined by a late night call in radio show host, who had a person claiming to have such limb. After arguing about it, the person, who had an amputated at the thigh leg, reportedly walked out of the radio studio, without either the crutches or prosthetic limb to support him, then had to cell phone the studio for someone to retrieve them back to his car! Sorry, don't recall who the host was, what city, what country, or even the year this allegedly happened.
  6. Considering how many car and truck manufacturers are offering "Daytime Running Lights" as a standard feature, I'd be surprised if there are many services that have not started policies for the regular headlights to be on whenever the vehicles are in motion. Those who don't have such policies, are probably going to do so shortly, in my opinion.
  7. Nope. I've transported numerous patients had a fight with the BF and attempted suicide, usually different types of pill ingestion. From 1973, don't recall if I transported any caustic agent ingestion patients, but have done numerous pill ingestion, and/or vehicular incidents and "Jumper down" calls related to fights with the "significant other", or the parents.
  8. Celticcare said Wish Central grants, and then you are called in front of a Congressional Committee, along with Larry Flint, for investigation of pornography. Afterwards, in a back alley, Terri pulls a Glock out... (Never gonna happen to me, as I don't even have a pornograph. lol) I wish I had some will power to not overeat as I currently do (and that Tom Sawyer boat trip sounds inviting too, but that wish is for another day).
  9. Hmmm.... I wonder if the National Organization of Women (NOW) has a branch in that country? They'd have a field day! Thanks, 4cmk6, for the clearer posting.
  10. Here in New York State, Red forward facing lights are supposed to be reserved for duly authorized emergency vehicles. There are certain and specific laws allowing certain individuals who are members of a VFD or VAS to also have Red forward facing lights on their personal vehicles. Blue forward facing emergency lights are reserved for volunteer firefighters responding to either the "house" to pick up the emergency vehicles, or directly to the scene of the incident. Depending on the relationship with the local LEOs, no speeding, passing stop signs or red traffic signals (if the LEOs look the other way, one may try). Blue is also supposed to be for "on the grounds" security officers. Some LEO agencies also have Blue forward facing lights, but are usually in combination with Red forward facing lights. Green forward facing emergency lights are reserved for volunteer EMS personnel responding to either the "house" to pick up the emergency vehicles, or directly to the scene of the incident. As with the VFDs, depending on the relationship with the local LEOs, no speeding, passing stop signs or red traffic signals. These VFD and VAS organizations have to issue a member a "Blue Light" or "Green Light" authorization card, for them to display such light from their POV. Most VFD and VAS organizations have written policies, that if someone displaying the Green or Blue lights gets into a collision, or causes an accident, while the Green or Red lights are illuminated, the individual is "AMF-YOYO" (Adios my friend, you're on your own*), as department insurance won't cover them. Yellow/Amber forward facing emergency lights are for "Hazard Vehicles", like construction equipment, or tow trucks. Generally, these colored lights are to advise overtaking or oncoming drivers that there is some kind of condition that could be a problem, and could be slowing down the traffic near the vehicle displaying the yellow/amber lights. Some construction workers have these on their personal vehicles, if they park them on the shoulder of a roadway they are fixing. Many motorists, including myself, carry them, in case of a vehicle breakdown, to signal oncoming and overtaking motorists that (*Cleaned up for the family audience.)
  11. FDNY EMS, and all ambulances dispatched by the FDNY EMD, when given the assignment, the type call has been previously prioritized by the Medical Director. The call takers can upgrade, if and when they think it appropriate, per our guidelines (they better be ready to justify the upgrade). Policy currently is, except for the call-types that are above a certain level of priority, L&S will be on for the initial response, and used as felt needed by the crews for getting to the hospital. We also have pounded into us by the EVOC instructors, to follow New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law #1104, no matter if L&S are on or not, to operate the department vehicles "With due regard to any and all other traffic on the road" (if not actual wording, it is to that effect).
  12. Sorry, cannot get it to load up for some reason.
  13. M. D. or D. O., GO FOR IT!
  14. I am unable to recall the name of the service, but there is something referred to as a "Reverse 9-1-1 Caller" system. In the event of a situation, the thing calls previously programmed in phone numbers, and delivers a taped message. In my neighborhood, for example, if the Office of Emergency Management orders the coastal evacuation due to the incoming hurricane, it is akin to 9-1-1 calling me about the emergency, at my home number. This system, as I understand it, can also call individuals from a service/agency/department/squad, sub-groups, or the entire personnel list, for an emergency recall to work. A sample message I heard, when I called for general information from the company a decade ago, went to the effect of... The ad was either in JEMS, or Emergency Medical Services magazine, and, as I said, this was easily a decade ago.
  15. While I am probably not going to be available to get involved, may I suggest any E-Mails re this assignment have "EMT City" in the subject line? At least you'll know what the sudden E-Mail from someone who's E-Address is unfamiliar to you is connected to.
  16. Without my own wish attached, I go back to Terri's wish for a cruise: Just hope it isn't a 3 hour tour on a boat called the Minnow, with the first mate's name being Gilligan!
  17. Professor Whoppie? OMG, he always sent a turtle, name I don't recall, on various adventures via that magic board. He was a part of the Tennesse Tuxedo cartoon show. I am scaring myself that I remember that line.
  18. WB, except for the E-lights and the vehicle's nose, looks almost the same.
  19. I just noticed something. In Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, the Sprinter type trucks are mostly Mercedes, even those used as delivery vehicles. Here in the US, the Sprinters seem to primarily be Dodge Ram delivery vehicles, or small passenger buses. I have not seen, at least in the New York City region, any Sprinter ambulances, either Mercedes or Dodge based.
  20. Wish granted, but your worst enemy can also teleport, and both of you teleported to the same exact location, at exactly the same time, and now the two of you are inextricably intermixed at the molecular level, in one super dense body, thoughts included. I wish I knew a shortcut, in both time and space, to my place of work, that nobody else knew about, including a legal parking space to put my POV.
  21. Wish Central's dental division grants that wish, but now your jaw hurts from the extraction of the hurting tooth. I was not the most behaved child, so Momma B has wished me, or cursed me, by telling me that I should have children just like me! I'm worried.
  22. I cheated, because I printed it out, and flipped the page.
  23. Professor Peabody (and his boy, Sherman) had the Wayback machine, and Doc Brown had the time traveling DeLorian. I understand, as probably mentioned before, one of the first models of SAEDs used a pad to the chest, and the other electrode was a metallic airway. Supposedly, while between floors, the crew carrying the patient on a Scoop (which is metal!), suddenly heard the machine start charging up to deliver a shock!
  24. While only working 8 hour tours, I have worked with women partners. When I was first assigned with one, it was kind of funny, as the female partner knew both my girlfriend and I from outside the job, plus, both the girlfriend and I were invited to the partner's wedding, prior to her being assigned as my partner. I have also worked with the partner's husband, sister, the sister's husband, and the two women's mother! The sisters had a younger sister, who was a VAS Junior member (she was a dispatcher), and actually helped me break the ice with Lady J, now my girlfriend, Johanna. I've been "hit on" by partners, both male and female. (I have no clue if they were just trying to rattle my cage, or if they meant it.) After advising them that they were making me uncomfortable with the advances, and that I was already in a comfortable relationship with my Lady J, they backed off. Incidentally, without mentioning the advances, I have actually introduced Lady J to some of these people. I also have a knowledge of colleagues who have had affairs with their partners. At least one of them resulted in a child, a divorce, a second marriage, and another divorce. She is now apparently happy with her third husband. Then, there was the husband who was so distrustful of his wife, he called up the station and accused any males who answered the telephone of having an affair with his wife, who was one of our EMTs. I had to tell him that I had no knowledge of any affair. He didn't meet my then fiancee, as he refused to allow his wife to go to any ambulance parties, where she (the fiancee) was attending with me. As for fidelity in "Dog/Cat" crews, as in a lot of things, you have to take each one as an individual case.
