Thanks for the clarification. I read Donut Magnet, and I was thinking some promotional refrigerator door doohickey from Dunkin' Donuts!

FDNY EMS policies and protocols have us, unless dependent lividity, rigor, obvious death (like a decapitation), or decomposition are noted, we start CPR, follow all standing protocols and procedures, then call OLMC with the request to terminate resuscitative measures. We still do "rolling codes". Just remembered, had a late afternoon call in an assisted living center, for a DIFFBR (Difficulty Breathing) call type. Patient was found laying on his back on top of the bed, in dependent lividity, cold to the touch, breathless and pulseless. After determining this status, first for myself, and then duplicated by my partner, we looked at each other, checked our watches, and said "Time of death is..., do you concur?" Partner did. From the door, several staffers expressed gasps of shock. The staff said he had been heard gasping about a half hour earlier. They probably had heard the agonal breathing, misinterpreted it as minor, but still had called 9-1-1 after going through their internal protocols on when to call.. FYI, we were less than 100 feet from the call location when we got the assignment, and signaled "On Scene" instead of "Enroute" as we were so close to it. Referencing another string, here: we radioed for the NYPD for a DOA, and left the deceased on top of the bed in the custody and accompaniment of the LEO team that responded.

Part of not being a "spinner", I guess, is, no matter your training level and/or level of education, knowing how to bluff that you know what you are doing, especially when you don't!

STOP! Would someone please tell this EMT what you are talking about, "Donut Magnets" and their relationship to implanted defibrillators?

Perhaps a Seal Of Approval?

First off, congrats! Second, a question: What does the string title have to do with passing the test? Must be in that 747 just flew over my house, as it was over my head. -
Was it a Christmas Seal (note date of posting)?

Dusty, if anyone spits into the food, or, as in a Youtube I saw a long time ago, some idiot urinating into the coffee pot (!), it is not just something for the attention of the local or state department of health, that is considered an assault! People have been arrested and incarcerated, as well they should be.

How many times have I posted my position that constructive criticism is to the effect of saying "You are wrong, because...", and list specifics that are correctable, as opposed to full out putdowns, like, "You are wrong, because you are a jerk", or similar? -

As of this posting, my 5558 versus your 1018 postings speaks volumes. so... [marq=left:0a2a0be92c]YOU SHUT UP![/marq:0a2a0be92c] lol -
I'm assuming (and hoping) this is a joke.

I note the Paramedic is scratching his butt, and the technician, who appears to be female, is scratching the butt of the Nosey Bystander. That "Bystander" vest seems to be so much like the identification card of the JAFO (Just Another Freaking Observer), which no longer seems to be available. (Polite version reads "Frustrated") I gave a JAFO card to a local politician, who until it was explained to him, wore it proudly! -
Welcome aboard! As for the weight, be careful. You find the calls come in just as the food is served, so you take to cramming it down. The body doesn't recognize that you ate, you'll still feel hungry, and you'll eat again. On that, I speak from over 35 years worth of experience! A side note on that: Most ambulance crews in the field are still looking for that sniffer device that alerts the dispatchers that there is food in the ambulance, therefore, the crew must immediately be given a call that will allow the food to get cold, or if Ice Cream, melt!

Would somebody clarify which it is: Playback after the patient is delivered to the ER, or live transmission to the OLMC while on the way to the ER? -

I also admit I have posted quite a few "Me Too", and "so and so beat me in with that comment" messages. It's not like they're going to shoot me. Was that an AK47 bolt being pulled back? lol. -

Hmm, a point I didn't think about. Almost any radio signal out there can be intercepted by a number of radio devices, like my own "Police Scanners", as an example. The Amateur Radio Service allows for some TV signals, therefore, it should stand to reason a "Ham TV" communications hobbyist could tune in that signal and see what the OLMC is getting from the Ambulance's camera. Said hobbyist might know radio/TV operating laws and restrictions, but not have a clue about either HIPAA or simple privacy laws, so suddenly, "Suzy MVA Victim" is a YouTube star. Perhaps N[s:098b30e5d4]0[/s:098b30e5d4]SSB, who I know is a licenced Amateur Radio Service operator, or anyone else who is a "HAM" radio operator would like to comment? (I'm not licenced as a HAM, but am licensed for General Mobile Radio Service, don't need a license for Maritime Very High Frequency or Citizens Band radio, and am registered as a Short Wave Listener/Monitoring Station. It IS a BIG difference.) -

Some of us just cannot believe someone is listening to us, without an instant "Shaddup! Nobody cares for your opinion!" being readied. I am around for so long, both as an EMT and on at least 2 previous renditions of the EMT City boards, so, apparently there are a few people who think I really do know what I am talking about. Also, I give a disclaimer if I am reacting to a posting from my heart, or with specific information. I have been wrong, and called to task for it. Learning curve, I guess. -
Did anybody else remember the ambulance industry started as an offshoot of the funeral home business? Where else would or could you get a vehicle capable of carrying someone laying down, but with the company's hearse? I have seen pictures, and others on EMT City have commented similarly, on hearse style ambulances with switchable signs saying "Ambulance" and "Funeral Car".

As the camera is operating, in essence, as a part of OLMC, I, personally, see no problem with that. -
Ambulance attendants accused of molesting patients
Richard B the EMT replied to spenac's topic in EMS News
1) It is probably in documentation somewhere that there are LEOs, Fire fighters, Teachers, and folks from all walks of life that would, and do, molest others. Please note I don't specify which sex or what sex, as the molestations can be male on female, female on male, male on male, and female on female (I think that covers just about everybody). 2) Dusty said That could simply be one person's experience, someone else may know female PE teachers who, as a group, are definitively not lesbian. The only female PE teacher I knew was happily married. -
Dusty, I just looked at that application you linked us to, and it looks a bit like a "Wellness Survey", like I have to complete each year at the departmental "Annual Physical/[s:05c3028fde]Right to Sleep[/s:05c3028fde] (err) 'Right to Know' Class". Quick on that: Federal mandate for teaching Equal Employment Opportunities, Hazardous Materials Awareness, what chemicals you use at work, and their potential health threats to you, the book with the reference material as to the hazards, and, if no information is in the book, when you can tell the bosses you cannot use the stuff without such information, and how to don an M95 particulate mask. You have to be there for the physical, anyway, so sit in the classroom and listen to the lecture. That way, the department is making sure you had the mandated yearly class. Normally for FDNY people, it counts as an 8 hour overtime pay day.
