  1. Being in court is not restricted to being sued yourself. One time I went to court, it was as witness in an attempted murder case (woman must be insane, she didn't press charges against her husband, who shot her and left her to die), and again as witness for a case where my patient sued the property owners for not clearing ice and snow off the sidewalk where he had slipped.
  2. New York City EMS used to be hospital based, via the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation, and we were local 2507. Now, we are fire service based, via the FDNY. Our uniforms are different, our top supervisors (chiefs) no longer report to HHC VPs, but to an FDNY chief, and we still are local 2507.
  3. Oops!
  4. Perhaps a bit off topic, but when an uncle of mine moved, he pulled out from storage parcels he was holding for a friend of his. One of the packages said "Aunt Hattie". On giving it to the friend, he asked where the package was going to, to be reunited with Aunt Hattie. He nearly fainted when told the box CONTAINED Aunt Hattie's Cremains.
  5. And probably in every state and territory of the US, with a different number on it.
  6. 1) I have been stabbed in the hand with a pencil. 2) I have been hit in the arm with a baseball bat, and not at the ball park. 3) The way I was jumped, if I had had a gun on me when I got robbed at gunpoint, those two MoFo BASTARDS would have, along with the cash and my badge, taken the weapon from me.
  7. Einstein was incorrect. Due to what we have, they have, and the other guys have, in their nuclear and thermonuclear arsenals, if there is a World War Three, ain't going to be a World War Four. If WW3 is fought, it will kill off everything, even the cockroaches! Radiation will be so intense, even if the Martians land, presuming they exist, the radiation will kill them, too.
  8. By that standard, nope!
  9. What about the other extreme? Those who are older, but claim to be younger? Then, they post pictures of themselves from years ago.
  10. The usual disclaimers of not being there, not knowing the individuals or agencies involved, or inter agency gripes is now invoked by me. If a dispatcher commented on a recorded line that an agency using their services was being in any way lazy, true or not, was something the dispatcher should not have said. If that was the dispatcher's opinion, it still was not the proper forum for the opinion to be expressed. Same thing, even if the accusation were true. The on scene crew that requested the helo might have seen s/s that they truly felt necessitated the Medevac flight.
  11. The time lapse between the alleged incident and the time of filing the lawsuit could be legitimate. A guy fell on ice on a sidewalk, suffering minor injuries in November 2005, I treated and transported. The case, following investigation, getting the case into court, preps of suits and counter-suits, came up in July 2008, when I was called into court about the case.
  12. So that's who Ted Kennedy was quoting at Bobby Kennedy's funeral: until today, I had no idea.
  13. I understand that "air rifles" have enough oomph to shoot and kill small varmints up to the size of a rabbit, so, per a previously mentioned term, could that be considered a low powered rifle?
  14. I hope you are not making that an all inclusive statement. The last mosquito bite I took was not mentioned on the internet, and by that statement, what I was scratching at, didn't exist.
  15. The first Local 2507/District Council 27/AFSCME union meeting I ever attended, in 1985, a member I was not really friendly with, gave me a bag to hide my portable radios in, as at the previous meeting, someone had recorded that meeting, which included potential strategies, and turned the tape over to the city negotiators. He feared by my simply having the radios openly in my possession, I might have been assaulted, being believed to be a union busting "spy".
  16. Mateo_1387, sounds like that patient is of the thought of "I don't care that I have no idea of what it is, or what it does, I am convinced that I cannot live without one!" (Send me 2 of them!)
  17. I believe the knife shown is from a company known as "Spyderco". If interested, go to www.spyderco.com .
  18. As long as she is VIEWING it, not BEING viewed. Some of that stuff is probably embarrassing to the person being viewed.
  19. It always is a good thing to learn something new each day, and this was 2 things: the use of the word "Band", and the definition of the word "pejorative". Anyone on the EMT City site, if you are of the First Nations, I apologize for my error in terminology.
  20. My Space or Face Book, at least none of us males, as far as I know, are so old as to still chase the women, but not remember why!
  21. I have heard this "thing" of anyone injured at a racetrack, a rodeo, or the circus asking to be "walked off," and is called the "Machismo" syndrome. They don't want to give the viewing public the downer of seeing anyone really hurt, and is supposed to be a tradition.
  22. The story sounds like the Urban or EMS Legend (choose either) of the man sued the EMTs or Paramedics who saved his life, because they ripped his $300.00 Italian silk shirt while doing it.
  23. Well! That was an interesting 4 minutes and 14 seconds!
  24. One possible problem could be the same as mine. If asked to verbalize what I am doing, as opposed to just doing the deed, I find it slows me down. I am also told it is quite common.
  25. With me, it has never been the tank stem-valve, I seem to have worn out a few o2 wrenches in my time. This is both the metal and the plastic varieties. While I carry the Leatherman, I have, in over 35 years in the field, used it to open a tank maybe 5 times. (I also used to carry a 10 inch adjustable wrench, for changing the tanks or regulators of the bolt on type equipment. Adjust it smaller, and it can be used as replacement for the o2 key with the stem-valve, just nowhere near as light.)
