  1. My observation is not the assorted bands causing trouble, it is the marching units that accompany them. More pride within the band(s) than in the rest of the marchers. FYI, years ago, pre merger, EMS was invited to march in the big parade, but not with any banners that identified us as the New York City (Health and Hospitals Corporation) Emergency Medical Service. We had our usual minimal 4 person "Ceremonial Display Unit" with US and City of New York flags, in their specially designed uniforms, and, as I had experience as color guard in my VAS, I was asked by a Deputy Chief to carry the flag of Ireland, in a second row behind the CDU, on my lonesome, in the regular dress uniform, with the rest of the EMS EMTs and Paramedics in rows behind me. (Not bad for a German-Russian-Polish Jewish American, huh?)
  2. Obviously, your local protocols are way different from mine. A PCR (Pre-hospital Care Report) has to be completed, and in the indicated box, the charge nurse, or their designee, must sign the PCR indicating acceptance of the patient's care from the ambulance crew, then, one copy of the multi-page form is left in the ED registrar's possession, for inclusion in the overall patient's care records. FDNY EMS uses one that can be read electronically, but more for purposes of billing. The State of New York's Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services uses a different one. I tried pulling up a copy of the PCR, but only could find the instructions for filling it out, at the NYS DoH website.
  3. On arrival, found an approximately 25 y/o Male, supine on a couch, unresponsive to painful stimuli. Per bystanders, had "consumed massive amounts" ETOH. V/S as written (elsewhere on call report). Pt has snoring respirations, heavy smell of alcohol on breath. Lung sounds clear bilaterally. Nothing else noteworthy on examination of pt. Pt unresponsive for undetermined time, but enough for bystanders to paint his face with some kind of marker pen. Inserted Airway tube, o2 @15 LPM NRB (liters per minute Non Re-Breather mask, with BVM (bag-valve-mask) on standby precautionary to possible breathing arrest. Moved to amb via carry chair, transported in stretcher, right lateral recumbent position. Transport time shorter than awaiting Advanced Live Support amb arrival or intercept, transported by Basic Life Support amb. No change or incident en route to hospital.
  4. A question for BVESBC: You said Please clarify that. Were they the same specs as an FDNY ambulance, or just similar? I ask, because as far as I know, My FDNY Ambulances have never had speed governors, but did have the equivalent of "flight data recorders," back 20 something years ago. These devices recorded speed, time, and if the lights and sirens were being used, to a paper disc inside the device. Supervisors were supposed to change the paper each day, if I recall correctly. The newer devices being used today (but not by FDNY, or the FDNY EMS) also have provisions for incident visual recording, similar to the police Dash-Cams, triggered by either a hard braking, or impact detected, will save the 10 seconds before and after such incident in a video formatting.
  5. Mediccjh wrote "During?" Last I heard, it was still in full swing!
  6. God help HIM? God help the two of them, and the community that they serve.
  7. As a part of the article quoted by akflightmedic states, WANTYNU comments Wow, the male bovine excrement in this Blanco County area must be really deep, and, unfortunately, the (hopefully) good crews of that ambulance group will be tarred and feathered due to their being associated with these jerks! I hope that nobody suffers in that community, waiting for whoever is going to cover the territory following the revocation of the ambulance's operating licence. If I, or a family member, were to suffer dire consequences due to an extended wait for a different ambulance service provider, I would sue the hell out of these McMain, Hotz, and Armstead characters, for causing the demise of the Blanco Ambulance Service
  8. That would make sense. BUT... We ARE, after all, talking about the City of New York, where if it makes sense, it is probably against someone's rules, regulations, and laws! Ask any NYC employee, or former city employee for confirmation!
  9. Thinking out loud here, but are we all not unlike Pinky and The Brain? Doing the same thing we do every night-Trying to save the world (one or two lives at a time)?
  10. If only they could get past copyright issues...I want that to be included in my next A & P refresher! (Anatomy and Physiology) After the Amimaniacs, Pinkey and The Brain had their own Saturday "Kid-Vid" show, then they added another Amimaniacs character, Elmyra, the little girl who inadvertently is killing her pets through her "love" of them, literally hugging them to death, not letting them breath.
  11. First, treat her atrophied legs, and probable open sores on her butt, then have her evaluated by the psychiatrists. Then, have a psych evaluation on the boyfriend as to why he didn't try to get help for her for that 2 year period. Also, I hope the guy had a second bathroom to use.
  12. Just throwing into the mix: Some feel that opponents in the same political party should not "throw mud", as, whoever wins the party vote might have the opposition party use the same negative claims against them. Example: Democrat Mary says Democrat Tom doesn't like women as Police Officers, Tom says Mary is too lenient on crime. Tom wins Democratic primary. Republican Paula then says Democrat Tom doesn't like women as Police Officers. It ends up being, "What goes around, comes around".
  13. Perhaps THIS is what our now infamous "Raped Ape" might look like... http://www.aboyd.com/kong/PJkong/King%20Kong%20%204.jpg
  14. In ancient times, a court jester always told puns, to the point the king got sick of it. The king had him jailed, and was going to hang him from the neck until he was dead, dead, dead! (traditional wording) When the jester was lead out to the gallows, he pleaded eloquently, without any puns, to release him, he would never tell a pun again. He pleaded his case so well, the king had a change of heart, and ordered him released. The jester then said, "No Noose (news) is good news." So, they hung him anyway!
  15. Is that not a revamp of the T-Shirt, says on both sides: "How do you keep an idiot occupied? Read other side!"
  16. Let's keep it scientific, not street. Link... http://www.extremescience.com/DeepestOcean.htm
  17. One learns something new each day, as I never ever heard that phrase before this posting. At least it makes more sense than the phrases "the Bee's Knees" or "the Cat's Pajamas". (Anybody know what those two are about? PM me with "EMT City" in the subject line)
  18. I'm looking for the 12 gage double oh buckshot shells...
  19. It is an underwater trench, Pacific Ocean, deepest part of all the oceans. Who, or whom, it was named for, I have no idea.
  20. Has it sunk lower than the Mariannes Trench?
  21. Was that "Hay" or "Hey?"
  22. I don't really know. I just am "punny" some times. Actually, I was so bright as a small boy, folks used to call me "sunny". Remember, a pun is the lowest form of humor (that you usually wish you had thought of first).
  23. OUCH!!!
  24. The problem with the question of "can you tell me what brought us out here today?"is that it might be answered with "I hope your ambulance!" or guessing Ford, Chevy or another make of ambulance chassis/power plant.
  25. While it is my understanding, per an article years ago in JEMS, that the French don't allow photographing their ambulance crews in action (the reporter, doing a ride-along, was nearly arrested for trying), I have no idea if they have any equivalent of the EMT there, or what their concept of a Paramedic is. To the Foreign Legion, perhaps the lowest known level of medical personnel to them IS a nurse.
