  1. I think that mediccjh is going to be wearing the actual traditional under his kilt. And that is... NOTHING! This is not a comment against mediccjh, it is what they wear, or more correctly what they don't wear, under the kilt. My source of information is friends in a local bagpipe band. Also don't call a kilt a dress, because that might get you kilt!
  2. OK, Dr Zimmerman/EMH
  3. Granny went to the doctor. "Doctor, my left knee hurts all the time" "The doctor said, "It's just old age" Granny tells the doctor, "My right knee is just as old, and it doesn't hurt a bit!"
  4. The only time I was covering a speedway, our 2 ambulances were behind the stands, and only could see a few yards of the track. PS, the track is now a housing development. In concept, a NASCAR EMS crew sounds good. I'd say at a track, the NASCAR crew would be primary, and the locals secondary, but before an event, whatever the event, all should have a practice drill. As for the NASCAR drivers who wanted to just roll the wreck back onto it's wheels? Make it mandatory they attend sessions by either the NASCAR EMS, the local EMS, or, preferably, BOTH, so they know what ANY EMS that might be responding to them is expected to be doing when treating them (NASCAR drivers).
  5. I was with the first band manager when we got the word that they could be called the FDNY EMS Pipe and Drums. Man, was he elated. I found the telephone number of the Boston EMS Pipe and Drums, and put him in touch with their band manager. Then, the AOH (Ancient Order of Hibernians) didn't want them, as, there already was an FDNY Pipe and Drums, which kept them out of the 5th Avenue parade. This was the same year the FDNY was moved from near the front of the parade, allegedly as the FDNY was some kind of trouble making unit. I have bad knees for walking, so don't look for me in a kilt. I also am too much a coward to wear one.
  6. People from the area of Montauk Point, Suffolk County, New York, sometimes have bumper stickers saying "Montauk-The End". That is because it is the easternmost part of the Long Island "fish". Look at a map to see the geography and the reason for the calling it a fish. While the Westernmost part of the "fish" is actually Brooklyn, the furthest western part of Queens County are my communities of the Rockaways- The Rockaway Peninsula. Some of our locals are sporting bumper stickers saying "Rockaway-The Other End". I'm possibly going to put one of them on my car.
  7. Probably not too happy.
  8. A lifetime ago (1974), a newly minted EMT on a Volunteer Ambulance Corps went out on her first call. On that first call, she fainted at the sight of blood on her first patient. Needless to say, she quit the line of work after returning to the base.
  9. Not that I am aware of. I got my first one of these from Galls, and the second one from this "Roberts" catalog, after finding out Galls doesn't carry this anymore. Galls doesn't carry this? Shocking!
  10. "Rock And Roll Is Here To Stay!" as done by numerous artists. "Roll Over Beethoven (and tell Tchycovsky the news)" as done (separately) by Chuck Berry, and the Electric Light Orchestra.
  11. Deastman wrote All right, I yield (pun unintended) the point that both Michigan, and my own New York State, have similar laws. I note that deastman also mentions, "Just because you have the right of way doesn't mean you can safely exercise it." This follows my scenario of the distracted soccer mom. You might have, legally, the right of way, by state or provence law, but until the other drivers realize that there IS an emergency vehicle at emergency status in back of them, or crossing their path, we should not accept it as a given fact. Other drivers first have to know they have reason to yield that right of way, before they can do so. There is a law of physics that states 2 objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Don't be that emergency vehicle operator who tried to disprove that, as I hate attending Line Of Duty Death departmental funerals.
  12. I accept the possibility.
  13. Unfortunately, I was right, and I regret it.
  14. EMTrocker wrote: Let me see, now. Lights and Siren run. "All hail the mighty emergency vehicle, and yield to it's overpowering L&S. " Scenario #1: Enter the intersection, with the traffic light at RED against you, travelling just a bit slower than Starship Enterprise at Emergency War Warp Factor 7. It's OK, because it's an Emergency Vehicle, and it ain't stopping until it gets to the hospital.Have crossing the same intersection, with the traffic light in their favor at GREEN, the soccer mom, with 7 assorted age children in the minivan. Due to an animated discussion between several of the little darlings, with at least one punch thrown between them, soccer mom is distracted, and doesn't hear the siren, sees not the Emergency lights. BOOM!! Emergency Vehicle= Driver injured, Riding EMT, Patient, and patient's adult child DEAD. Minivan=35 year old female deceased, 11 year old female deceased, 9 year old boy/girl twinset deceased, the other 4 children, aged 2 to 6, injured, and now motherless. Scenario #2: Emergency vehicle slows down on approaching the intersection, as the driving EMT has no idea what is coming across the intersection, which has a Traffic light at RED against him. He stops briefly to make sure the crossing is clear. Have crossing the same intersection, with the traffic light in their favor at GREEN, the soccer mom, with 7 assorted age children in the minivan. Due to an animated discussion between several of the little darlings, with at least one punch thrown between them, soccer mom is distracted, and doesn't hear the siren, sees not the Emergency lights. Emergency vehicle driver stomps the brakes to stop the vehicle quickly. Partner complains about the sudden stop. Loaded minivan clears the intersection, while soccer mom continues to not know any emergency vehicle is operating within miles of her. Emergency vehicle=Driver and partner arrive at hospital, but patient dies from illness related to old age. Eventually, Emergency vehicle crew goes home at end of tour. Patient's adult child weeps, but also goes home. Minivan=Soccer mom and children arrives home, go inside, and have dinner. Which scenario would you prefer to have, considering you are on that Emergency vehicle?
  15. You want coastal? If you are thinking coastal, inquire about flooding from coastal storms, or hurricanes. I realize this is not putting down coastal existence, as Hurricane Andrew did a number on the Homestead Air base, and that lies roughly midway between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, in fairly northern Florida. I live by the Atlantic Ocean in New York City. If the city activates the mayor's Office of Emergency Management plans for a coastal evacuation, at least my house is in the third and final zone within the Rockaway Peninsula to "Get Out Of Dodge." I know we flooded during Hurricane Donna in September 1961, and the "Nor'easter" of 1993, and the historians give me other dates we got flooded out. Oh, as for New York city and surrounding areas? Think High Price$ for both re$idency and other purcha$e$. Just do your research, as has already been mentioned.
  16. Before he played Cpl. Klinger on MASH, Jamie Farr really was in the Army. He was requested to call the training base's Operations Center to get an question answered, but when he called... "This is Farr in Barracks 'G'." "Say again?" "Farr in Barracks 'G'." The line went dead. Jamie attempted to reestablish the connection, but heard a commotion approaching. Sirens. The base Fire Department arrived, and, as he was the only one there, they asked him, "Where's the fire?" "What fire?" "Command Ops notified us someone called, said 'fire in barracks G'." Oops.
  17. I may live to regret this, but tell us the story!
  18. "Blue On Blue" by Bobby Vinton "Lamour et Bleu" (Love is Blue) by the Paul Mariart (sp?) Orchestra
  19. I join in mourning EMS "extended family member", Paramedic Rafael Vazquez. It is such a shame that we cannot even stay in the "safety" of our own homes, either. Here in New York City, over the last few years, we have had numerous incidents where someone discharges a firearm, either deliberately or accidentally, and the bullet goes through a wall or floor, and injures or kills someone trying to sleep in their own bed.
  20. Parabrandi: Sounds to me that your child inadvertently put you and the ex into a popularity contest. I am unmarried, and no children (notice I didn't say "that I know of"), but from readings, pop-psychology shows, and the like, your reaction was, indeed, the proper one, even if you are feeling a sting from it.
  21. CodeBlueEMT and JPINFV, are you two in cahoots to present that aged joke?
  22. I think we're getting off topic, and should continue this trivia pursuit on one of the other venues here at EMT City. (Memory is hazy, but Agent 99s name might have been Jennifer. Unable to back it up with documentation.)
  23. We might act gruffly, but we do care. Perhaps we hide the caring with the gruffness. Please keep us updated as to what happens.
  24. You could have your medical director, a group of doctors from your On Line Medical Control, your department Chief of Operations, either the local or state police "highway safety" officers, and the most senior EMTs and Paramedics who both treat the patients and drive the ambulances have a meeting, and decide what priorities specific complaints should be assigned. This would be creating "Prioritizing By Calltypes" protocols. Cardiac arrest would be a Priority One, to be responded to with l&s, for an example. Using FDNY EMS priorities as an example, an EDP would be a Priority 7, no l&s. I'm presuming that is because the powers that be prefer the NYPD to arrive first and if needed, place the EDP into both protective custody and handcuff restraints, we'll be the transportation (Yes, I know this seems to be a waste of resources, but as has been mentioned in other strings, the patient might be chemically imbalanced instead of mentally imbalanced, thereby causing Altered Mental Status-AMS). I feel like mentioning, when an ambulance goes off service for a flat, or a motor that cannot be restarted, even that gets a "calltype" specific to the problem, but all of them are Priority Eight, the lowest we have.
