  1. Check me if I am wrong, but was not most of the flooding in NOLA from breaking dikes and levys? On a mention, during Hurricane Donna (September 1960), when the Atlantic Ocean/Jamaica Bay storm surge flooded my street on the Rockaway Peninsula, those who the water flowed over basement window sills, and basement door sills, into their basements were reimbursed by the insurance companies. I had a different problem: The underground aquifer rose, secondary to the storm surge, and this flooded my basement by bubbling up thru the floor! Nothing over the door or window sills! Luckily we had no damage, because our insurer told us we couldn't have claimed for damage from that, we could only have claimed for damage if the water had flowed over something into the basement.
  2. Well, SHE did get the position, and I didn't.
  3. "I'm Walking" (Fats Domino)
  4. If you can't get a copy of the uniform print catalog to the shoe store, go anyway, tell the sales staff you need a boot with good ankle support, able to take a lot of abuse, be water (bbp) resistant, or have something in a one way moisture "wicking" capability. The boots should also be able to maintain, or be re-polished, to a high gloss shine, so if there is anything on them, you can see it, and then you can do a bbp De-Con on them. For all I know, you might be able to do good with Timberlands, which is a brand name where at least I am aware of the brand name, and is readily available in a large number of shoe stores. No experience with them, as my employer, the FDNY, supplies the boots I currently am using. Also, if you get any of the trade magazines, like JEMS or EMS, check out their reader service cards, or similar computer links, for further information from their vendor clients.
  5. Here Comes That Rainy Day Feelin' Again (Don't remember the artists) Have You Ever Seen The Rain? Who'll Stop The Rain (Creedence Clearwater revival) Walking In The Rain (with the one I love on my mind) (Don't remember the artists) Singing In the Rain (Gene Kelly, from movie of the same name) Rainy Night In Georgia (Brooks Benton?)
  6. Sunshine On My Shoulder (John Denver) Here Comes The Sun (John Lennon/Paul McCartney) Sunny Side Of The Street (Unk composer, but multiple artists) Sunny (Bobby Goldsboro)
  7. Robin Williams?
  8. I thought that it was a prerequisite!
  9. I don't know if this is workable, but... Take some catalogs, like Galls, or other similar uniform "print catalogs", to your local shoe store you deal with regularly, and ask if they have anything similar, either in stock, or that they can get for you. I have always been taught to try on shoes and boots, which is why those are the only uniform items I'd never get on line, or using a mailing. Your shoe store person can probably be very helpful in getting you not only a decent work boot, but one that fits! This is actually advice for both the guys and dolls (I'm in a Broadway frame of mind, so forgive the show title).
  10. ...Or the guy thinks he's a bug...Nat (gnat).
  11. I don't know if it might get you blacklisted for doing so, but have you and that lawyer, with the "thick file" on your company. thought of going outside public? Like the local newspapers and TV station investigative reporters? Just thinking out loud, if the lawyer says "don't do it", DON'T DO IT.
  12. Did the FDNY EMS have anything to do with this video, including cooperation? We use type ones, and the only type threes we have are very restricted use. The uniforms are definitely not FDNY EMS: we use navy blue shirts. Could this be the ambulance used by "Carlos and 'Doc'" on "Third Watch"? Or perhaps one used in "Law and Order", "L&O SVU", or "L&O Criminal Intent"? (As has been pointed out in different strings, yes, I have, and still do, watch an inordinate amount of TV and movies)
  13. ...and the guy hanging on the wall of the museum? Art. Warning: I have not yet even opened the barrel to scrape from the bottom!
  14. Ruffems said The paid sector should take a lesson from that. I had some good time in a VAS, tried for municipal, and was denied, as they didn't accept VAS experience as "experience". Don't go in the water until you learn how to swim!
  15. I held a drivers license for several years before applying to drive my Volley Ambulance, as well as work the back. I was denied driving. Another person joined the corps, with a license held for barely a month. The individual was a month older than I was. Accepted for driving! All I can figure is, Politics!
  16. Kristinaemtb, I have a question. The company says they will fire you if you take the course that you want to take, correct? Do they offer an alternative, say, the same course at a different venue, like community versus state colleges? Or is this course they offer a lower level of training, take it or leave it?
  17. And don't forget that Elizabeth Winsor drove ambulances, and had to maintain their motors and tires, for the British Army during the Second World War. You probably know her better as the current reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth the Second of Great Britain!
  18. Damn, I reported that incident on this site originally. That was the only incident with the NCPD, at least that I can recall. However, that could have happened to any ambulance service provider. Heck, I have had my old private non 9-1-1 service provider ambulance come under thrown rock assault, in 2 services, but the same area.
  19. I was quoting Simon, not myself.
  20. For those who take the Los Angeles/Hawaii version of Pizza, with pineapple, how could you mess up a pizza pie so horribly? I'll take a slice of pineapple on various styles of pork or ham, but it ain't natural on pizza!
  21. Simon Cowell said for you to leave. NOW!
  22. You say the woman fell 15 feet before wedging. How far down was the water, as I hope this didn't turn into a drowning call?
  23. When I was just a child, I was taught the thermometers with the long silver bulbs were for under the tongue, and the short rounded ones were for ...well, you know.
  24. brentoli said Somehow, I think your next, unwritten line would be to the effect, that "when all is said and done, there will be more said, than done"?
  25. There is supposed to be a blue line design for application to the bumpers of POVs owned by LEOs, and a similar one for fire fighters in red, to let on duty LEOs know who might be driving the POV. Anyone heard of one for EMS?
