  1. In second posting, hope the puncher can explain to the child who got knocked down as to "why".
  2. If an EMT feels that a situation might be dangerous to their health and well being, go with the feeling. Await the LEOs, at a location out of sight of the location if possible, but ALWAYS within the protocols of your agency. As a further mention, become knowledgeable with both agency and area protocols. Won't hurt you, and just might protect you against violating them. I worked with a thick Operations Guide Book, and in the NYC EMS Academy, we actually spent a couple of days going through the book as it existed back then in 1985, to familiarize ourselves. When I retired in 2010, under FDNY, the book was even thicker.
  3. Where, geographically, are you, and what is a "level 1 clearance card?
  4. I wish to all, salt, pepper, paprika, mustard and ketchup. What? You've never had "Seasoned Greetings" before?
  5. I wish to all, salt, pepper, paprika, mustard and ketchup. What? You've never had "Seasoned Greetings" before?
  6. I will speak to the specific of my alleged knowledge of the policies of the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, that any applicant who has an arrest and conviction, who applies for becoming an EMT-B or EMT-P, or renewing their certification as such, MUST report such conviction. Anyone with such conviction(s) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  7. I'm not as skilled as Hiro Yashimora in that area (TV show "Heroes").
  8. Don't need telekenesis, need teleportation. Concentrate on getting patient, partner and self to the ER. On second thought, save the telekenesis for lifting the patient onto the streacher, and then moving the streacher down the stairs to the ambulance.
  9. Might already have. A service near me, 37 years ago, had a tech that allegedly could do one rescuer CPR while driving the ambulance. Did I mention that this was in a Caddy-lance?
  10. Then, we have the other extreme, of the shows we all seem to hate. Shall we top that list with "Trauma"? Follow that with "Rescue 77", "Trauma Center", "Two Forty Robert", and TV versions of the movies "The Hospital" and "Mother, Juggs and Speed".
  11. It is an unfortunate thing, indeed, that no matter how high we soar, or potentially can soar, we get tied down to the launch platform due to these fools who cause the need for a lowest "common" denominator. Consider the crew on the UFO who judge the intellegence of our entire planet on the actions of the Forrest Gump movie character.
  12. "Offending Driver"? Was any guilt in the collision offered up, going either towards the ambulance or the other vehicle? If such was mentioned, I missed it. Simplification: State it as "The driver of the other vehicle..."
  13. If a picture indicating MOI (Method Of Injury) can be taken without taking time away from patient care, perhaps. Did I just read that a newbie in the ER was taking photos of injuries, possibly revealing the patient's identities, with intent to post the "interesting" pictures on the internet? And that said individual was hiding the photos on his or her cell phone? Not only would I have "scrubbed" that phone back to original factory settings, but I, if a supervisor, would not only have fired the individual, I'd have whatever licence/certification the individual had be revoked by the issuing agency. They'd never work in this town, county, state/province, or country in that capacity again. Vindictive? yes, but with cause. Yes, there might be a good place for photos, as long as the patient's identity can still be obscured. There is a story, that snopes verified (can't find the link right now), where a young lady died in a car crash, and every couple of weeks, someone sends the photo of the lady, dead in the car, to the lady's parents.
  14. Local protocols will be observed. Mine are, radio in that your unit is in an accident, using specification of "My unit is involved", and give location, injuries sustained by you, your partner(s), the patient(s), the folks from the other vehicle, and damage to both vehicles. Then, you will await the arrival of additional ambulances to take over patient care from you, and take care of you and your partner. You will also await the arrival of the "Conditions Boss" (nearest field supervisor, usually a lieutenant), and the LEOs, which in my area is the NYPD. At discretion of your dispatcher, you might also get a "Box Pull", consisting of 2 FDNY Engine and 1 Truck Companies, and the nearest FDNY Battalion Chief. When transported to the hospital, or back at the station, an MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) "Package", with all the paperwork in multiple copies, will be completed, sent to HQ, with copies to the Personnel Files, and one to take home by the department members involved. I note that we have reasonably close backup here in NYC, so help is never too far away. Such is NOT the case in all areas of the country, or the world.
  15. This might have been addressed, but shouldn't the EMTs and Paramedics be taking care of their patients, not taking the time to take pictures? Food for thought...
  16. A short while after the September 11 Attack, the magazine of the National Safety Council misidentified an FDNY Fire Fighter as being an FF/Paramedic. They published my "Letter to the Editor", in which I explained the difference, down to the different colored turnout gear, boot styles, and helmits, where I told them, in the FDNY, there's no such thing as an FF/Paramedic or FF/EMT. As in my letter, I also explained that some members of FDNY are also in VFD and VAS/VAC units outside the city, where they may be cross trained personnel, but when in FDNY, of the separation of FF and EMS duties (except for Certified First Responder-Defibrillator Engine Companies).
  17. If anyone has to say to anyone else, or ask, that they're "Cool", They're NOT "Cool".
  18. Cheating a bit, with me doing a rare "bump-up".
  19. Double entendre: "member". Going back on accents, no matter who one is, they usually end up speaking much like all the others in the area, or with whom they hang around with. Remember the "Dukes Of Hazzard"? They had an episode where there was a purportedly Chinese character, speaking in "Chinglish", or if you will, the stereotype "pigeon" English. That, in it's own right, was a bit offensive, but to have the "Chinglish" also done in a heavy stereotypical southern US accent?
  20. Nearest I've been to being a Fire Fighter was a few months ago, when I ended up being first in at what I consider a rarity, a burning car from a Motor Vehicle Accident, on the Belt Parkway (Brooklyn, NY), while enroute home from the movies, in my POV (Nissan Quest minivan). I used to use my POVs as first response vehicles, so I still have 2 10 pound ABC chemical extinguishers from Costco in the cargo area, which turned out to not be enough to put out the fire, concentrated in the engine compartment. As a mention, an FDNY Battalion Chief, from the HazMat Division, in the "company car", pulled up while I was exhausting my second extinguisher "can", pulled his "can" from the Excursion, and exhausted it. Due to the traffic jam, the first Engine Company didn't arrive for another 3 minutes, which was also when we got the eastbound lanes, that we were in, shut down. FYI, just being on the road, a limited access one, caused me to come up on it, as it was in the same direction of travel as I was going, so it was no scanner buff call, or an assigned call. My "Lady J" and a mutual friend were with me. The mutual friend was terrified of the burning car doing a "Hollywood" explosion. After the Engines, Trucks and Ambulances were all on the scene, and I loaded the "cans" back into my POV, I told her (the friend) "Welcome to MY world".
  21. I'm not a Fire Fighter. I'm an EMT in the mission specific EMS Command of the Fire Department of New York City (Retired).
  22. Croaker260, as a "geek", if you're a Star Fleet "Red Shirt", just remember to duck when any "op-force" is shooting at you!
  23. All dependant on your number of postings. After I post this, I'll amend the posting with the number of postings this one makes, then you can check how many postings I am actually up to. Ah, "Elite", with 5,983 postings. Number will go up with subsequent postings on all strings and subjects.
  24. http://www1.whdh.com/video/category/top-video/ List under "Stuff you cannot make up!"
  25. It was covered on both the local 5 and 11 PM reports, as well as the network newscasts. However, let no one defame the troops who served. While I have always been a civilian, anyone who does is going to have to answer to me, the ghosts of DustDevil and John Wayne, and Chuck Norris, not nessesarily in that order!
