  1. I was under the impression that it was newsworthy when they interrupted the fights to bring you a hockey game. Curling? One Saturday afternoon, my partner and I had apparently watched the same channel, before reporting to work. They had shown a Curling ... match? Game? Set? Whatever the correct terminology. Neither of us could believe we had spent the half hour watching it, neither of us understand what it was we were seeing.
  2. While not doing the look-up, we had a discussion here about 2 years ago, where a U K crew, possibly London, not only didn't take a patient to the ER, they brought the patient back to their base, in the ambulance, that their relief crew could complete the transport, as it was the end of their tour. I don't recall if the assignment was emergent or IFT in nature.
  3. I would presume the team with the most goals scored at the final buzzer.
  4. In the book version of the first episode of "The Time Tunnel", back late 1960s or early 1970s, they addressed the dilemma of a man going back in time, and, accidentally or otherwise, killing his grandfather before he met his grandmother. Then, they reversed it by having one of the 2 time travellers of the show save the life of the grandmother of the one who had mentioned the dilemma, when "granny" was only 5. On the topic of film inconsistencies, there's a segment of "The Valachi Papers", showing the Brooklyn docks, circa 1932, with a background showing the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The inconsistency? There shouldn't be any 1970s Kenworth, Mack, Peterbilt or Mercedes trucks driving behind action in the 1930s. Another inconsistency: A film of Melvin Purvis' pursuit of John Dillinger, also circa 1930s. They do a somewhat tight shot of Purvis lighting a cigar, with a Microwave communications tower behind him.
  5. They made 2 of them. I saw a part of the first, didn't stay till the end, never saw the second.
  6. If the story I heard about an American who, while learning one of the Chinese dialects, got arrested for "playfully" telling a Chinese woman he loved her, is true, they might have the concept of a previous century person having a baby by one of our contemporary century folks in mind. It brings to mind a Mike Nesmith movie, "Time Rider", where a contemporary motocross rider accidental gets sent back in time, while wearing a medallion his great grandmother gave him. Great gandma had stated she stole the medallion from a mysterious stranger, with whom she had sex. In the story line, he has sex with a woman, who, just before he gets rescued, snatches the medallion, leaving me with the impression he may have sired his own grandfather with his great grandmother. Talk about keeping it all in the family!
  7. Was there a Bud Abbot Street? Who's on Third. I Donno. Third Base!
  8. In the National Safety Council's publication, "Health and Safety" (April, 2011) they had the following article:
  9. The parking lot for the South Nassau Community Hospital in Oceanside (Nassau County), NY is on Healthy Way.
  10. The guy in the background is Wesley Snipes, in the role of "Blade". In that movie series, he portrayed a half vampire Vampire hunter/killer.
  11. Mentioning that amputees sometimes have pain where there is nothing, as a BK leg amputee who's toes are itching (my dad actually had that a few times). Somewhere on this site, I must have mentioned a local frequent flyer, who had been transported to the ER by another team, and put on a gurney in the corridor, by an ER Charge Nurse, to "sleep it off", as he was a habitual ETOH abuser. I actually saw him that night, when he got off the gurney to go to the toilet, then got back on the gurney. My topur ended at midnight, the nurse's at 6 AM. The next evening, the crew I relieved told me the guy had died on the gurney! The Charge Nurse coming on at 6 AM found him dead, when attempting to do a pulse check. The overnight Charge Nurse was reassigned, and reduced in status and responsibilities. No blame was assigned to the EMS crew that had brought him in.
  12. Dwight, I must presume you are unaware of how the NYC Housing Authority works. They might have one office in a complex of 10 or more buildings, opened from 9 to 5, week days only. If there is a problem outside those hours, you have to call a central number, where, if lucky, someone answers, and then responds the nessesary personnel and equipment. Said repair personnel might not even be from the same county within the city. FYI, NYC consists of 5 counties (we call them boroughs).
  13. I think I read, years ago in the reader's digest, a short story of a guy on a train, sharing the compartment with an old Asian man, when a man who presents as drunk and looking for a fight with anyone, enters the compartment. The first person tells of reviewing some of his Martial arts skills, to be used to defend himself and the elderly man, when the elderly man engages, in a calm manner, the agitated man, in conversation, and manages to calm the agitated man down, to the point that the guy actually ended up in a pleasant conversation. Afterwards, when the formerly agitated man leaves, the elderly one tells the story teller to the effect of, I saw you preparing to fight, but felt mine was the better way. Think about it.
  14. On presumption that OperaGhost's spell check was down, and (s)he suffers from the problem of striking 2 keys at the same time (as I do), and meant Paramedic, just remember that there are numerous systems that vary on how much the Paramedics can do before they have to contact On Line Medical Control (Mother/Father, May I?). Also, those who claim to know it all, are viewed as ridiculous by those of us who do know it all!
  15. Is Dermabond a kind of "superglue" for the skin? Just asking for a clarification.
  16. Don't just drop in, participate! You might just have the answer to someone's questions, but not just now realize it. Welcome aboard!
  17. I must be showing my age. I remember when Maury Povich had decent shows, that were not punctuated by shouts of "You are NOT the father", or He IS the female impersonator". An old girlfriend of mine appeared, on an "Adoptees Meet Birth Families" segment, in 1996.
  18. As to biker's "leathers", ask the biker, or other bikers with him/her, how to cut them off with the least amount of damage. If they have the leathers decked out with assorted patches, related to their motorcycling group (notice how I carefully avoid saying "Gang"), they might take you up on signing the release, instead of damaging the leathers. Be careful if even one of the patches indicates "DILLIGAF" (Does It Look Like I Give A F***). If it's just plain protective leathers, remind them the insurance should take care of it, as it's replacing "Protective Gear". (Emphasis on SHOULD)
  19. Addendum to my previous post: In the project buildings, which are usually 6 to 13 stories high, sometimes they only have one elevator. Numerous times, the elevator can be out for months at a time. While a nice idea to install an alarmed AED storage box by the elevator on the lobby, most times, there's nobody in the lobby to see or hear. Also, who is to say the thief lives in the building, let alone that particular project complex? No connection to whatever civic pride may be in existence in the tenant association.
  20. Choose your battles, study up on both pros and cons for whatever you choose to try and change.
  21. My home area/Primary Area of Response has many public housing developments. It is my pessemistic view that the few evil folks there, who give everyone there a broadstroke bad name, would steal any AED so placed, as I have already seen where stolen standpipe fire hoses and fire extinguishers used to be, replaced, and stolen again.
  22. Fire away. I can be e-mailed via the EMT City link to my e-address.
  23. One time I had a 2 car collision, with one vehicle rolled over, but landing on it's wheels. The rolled vehicle had 2 occupants. Neither had any complaints, and I was originally going to accept the Refused Medical Assistance, until a friend in the bystanders, who witnessed the accident advised me of the rollover. Subsequent to the advisement, my partner and I initiated full spinal involvement protocols, pursuant to NY State DoH and FDNY protocols for Trauma Center Candidates, for both, and transported to the Trauma Center. 2 minutes after transfer of care at the TC, the driver suddenly passed out and started vomiting. While not involving a mistaken identity due to cross dressing, it does show how a missed detail can be the one potentially fatal item. FYI, the second vehicle, and it's 2 occupants were handled by another team that arrived seconds before I arrived, and transported to the local ER. Vehicle 2 had front end damage, both were seatbelted (all 4 patients were), with airbag deployed. Vehicle one, an old battered looking car, had side damage, and no airbags, due to the vehicle's age.
