So it's human nature. After Pearl Harbor, "everyone" hated orientals. Automatically, they were all seen as Japanese. Persons of Japanese heritage were hauled off to Internment camps. The radio version of the "Green Hornet" changed Kato's place of origin, from Japanese, then to Philippines, then just "Oriental". My girlfriend is 3rd generation American born, of Sicilian/Italian heritage. In the Bahamas, a couple from Hamburg, Germany, on hearing this, called her Mafia! (Surprisingly, I reacted worse to this than she did). I almost called the couple Nazi! -
Mosque at Ground Zero is a "Slap in the Face"

Vatican City is not a location one could put another house of worship, as it is, in and of itself, a Church to begin with. -
This is, admittedly outside my level of training. I have heard some paramedics state they might force down the foreign object in deep enough that air exchange can at least be accomplished in one lung, even if temporarily leaving the other blocked pending surgical intervention. I've no idea if this is even covered in NYC/NY State protocols.

When I was a kid, these type stories were "Little Johnny". I'm presuming this "Little Larry" is his grandson?

The refrain is, "When will they ever learn?" I wonder if humankind ever will. -

It took a few minutes to penetrate my thick skull, but...Moslems drinking an alcoholic beverage? Boy, wait until the fundamentalists get a hold of them! -

From website http://www.usconstit.../const.html#Am1 OK, the Governments of the USA, the State of, and the City of New York, are restricted in having a "State Religion". They are similarly restricted in disfavoring any religion. The NIMBY crowd would declare otherwise, but are themselves protected by free expression/speech. The Judeo/Christian bibles state, in "The Ten Commandments", I believe I have also read variations of that line in Hindu religious books, and suspect they might have the line in Buddhism. YET , How many wars, crusades, jihads, have been fought, all in "God's" name? How may died? How many will die? -
I don't know. I've always had sex, as I've been male from when I was born... lol

I am also one of those who have not been the preceptor much. As a student, one instructor pretty much growled at me for everything, both good and bad, and I flubbed it. I requested another instructor to try again, openly saying that the first one probably didn't intend to scare me as he had. The next one was good for me, but it turned out I couldn't do the task. Oh well, at least I had some better understanding of the task, even if I wasn't going to handle it.

Locating an old friend who joined the Navy

If you have his old Fleet Post Office account number, you might try sending a regular letter. Worst that could happen is a "Return To Sender"." -
On initial start up, it is going to be a lot of money, be it a Volunteer VAS, a municipal EMS, a private Inter facility or 9-1-1 responder service.

Stethoscope suggestions?

Thank you for proving my statement. -
Silly String? I've seen that used as a source of fuel in a fire. Get some military advice on that item, as I think it might be banned. If it is NOT, I admit to being wrong.

Well, I know of one rabbit that is actually trying to protect an aircraft...

Go here for an extensive procedural for obtaining a Certificate Of Need for EMS, as per NY State DoH Certificate of Need, NYS DoH

If I get pharmaceuticals at the neighborhood drug store, they have a computer to keep track of what I am taking, as to not have drugs that interact against me. I am truly shocked to find that mighty Mount Sinai Hospital doesn't have one, and that the doctors didn't read the charts to determine what, and how much, he was getting of those vasodilators. If only by reputation, try Saint Frances Hospital in Roslyn, Nassau County, NY. Per what I have heard, they have the best cardiac care in the NY/NJ/CT "tri-state" area.

I usually try to keep my commentary gender neutral, but ... If Rudyard Kipling (Parody of same: So what is it going to be, friend? Which are you?

In addition to already stated by the others, in New York State, you have to have a CON, or Certificate of Need. For that, you have to hold public hearings, where any other services in the area you intend to serve, or alongside to it, have to give their approval. If you want to serve within NYC area, you might have to also get approval from Nassau County, and the neighboring city of Yonkers. More to follow...

Mosque at Ground Zero is a "Slap in the Face"
Richard B the EMT replied to tniuqs's topic in Archives
Herbie1, I'm kind of laughing at that comment, but with no offense intended. I spent my first 11 years in municipal EMS working in Headquarters (EMD area). Where and when did I find out what was going on? Talking face to face with the field crews when I was off duty! Something about not seeing the forest for the trees? -
Perhaps there is more to it than the bad joke of: It's not MY emergency. As already stated here, it's their worst day. They are looking to you to help. Anger and confusion feed on themselves. Don't join it.

What about this guy on the left? (From an E-Mail from Fire Engineering)

They had a plot device using the sale of "used panties" with specific wearer's "scent" on them, on CSI-Las Vegas this season. Therefore, which came first, the CSI show, or the video we got linked to?

Mosque at Ground Zero is a "Slap in the Face"
Richard B the EMT replied to tniuqs's topic in Archives
I really don't have anything to contribute, especially about the church, which this string has only just brought to my attention. Perhaps the mosque should be built, but due to strong feelings against it, not for at least 20 years. The NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) crowd will probably tie the effort up in lawsuits, so it might actually be longer. A Chinese/American man named Sam Wong, walking down the street, was attacked by a man named Ginsburg, claiming the assault was for the Pearl Harbor attack. Mr. Wong said, "but I'm Chinese, not Japanese" "So? Same difference", said Ginsburg. A couple of months later, Ginsburg was attacked by Mr. Wong. Wong yelled, "That was for the Titanic!" "The Titanic? That was sunk by an iceberg!," Ginsburg exclaimed. "Iceberg, Ginsburg, same difference!" stated Wong. With that in mind, and allowing for my jocularity, if I could really determine of which nature the Mosque builders are, religious practitioners appalled by the actions of their Fundamentalist "Brothers", or supporting those Fundamentalist "Brothers", I could actually make a more decisive opinion; lacking the information, I cannot. -
Need ALS/Para Help W/ Family Member
Richard B the EMT replied to uglyEMT's topic in General EMS Discussion
SOME conditions actually can be diagnosed, by description, over the phone, but only to generalities. That is what Emergency Medical Dispatch office call takers do all day and night. If the caller says the patient is having chest pain, and is holding their fist to their sternum, it would be safe to say the patient is a cardiac possibly having an AMI. The call taker doesn't need to determine, at that time, if it is descending right bundle block. -
Medical response law draws criticism
Richard B the EMT replied to CBEMT's topic in General EMS Discussion
What works in one geographic area might not work in another. FDNY EMS Command runs roughly 3 BLS (EMT) crews for each ALS (Paramedic) crew. My station is a 2/1 ratio. I admit a bit of confusion. In the past, Local 2507 (EMTs Paramedics and Inspectors of the FDNY) of District Council 37, American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), fought single Paramedic Ambulances, in part, joking about a Pair-A-Medics, but saying the care was better with 2 on board the ambulance. Nowadays, in an effort to preserve jobs, they might go one Paramedic/one EMT ambulances. The single Paramedic concept is known as "Mensa-Medic", kind of named in honor of that society of geniuses.
