  1. High impact MVC w and an improperly restrained (front facing) car seat...
  2. So I win?!? I thought I was off track with my rhabdo comment:/
  3. I am an RN and I hide in situations like these... Unless there is truly no one else or they are super critical then I just do first aid stuff.
  4. Well his AST/ALT levels make me think alcoholic hepatitis which is linked with acute renal failure, the EKG looks like it has peaked T waves meaning hyperkalemia. I'm still stumped as to why he's having leg/butt pain though.
  5. Shucks... was just reading on renal failure and saw it can cause an increase in a D-dimer as well.
  6. Well the reference range for BUN I learned is 6-20 and Cr 0.6-1.2...I'm thinking some renal failure is going on for some reason or another...has he recently started working out? Any chance this could be rhabdo?
  7. Any s/s renal disease? I suppose pain could be radiating down to the butt from the flank? BUN/Creatinine?
  8. Doppler U/S? VS? How is his mental status/respiratory effort? Is the one leg bigger/redder/warmer than the other?
  9. Damn... And here I was planning a Jeep trip this weekend! Should I pack extra ammo in case we run into the bad guys!?
  10. I mean if the bullet is attached to a really thick piece of cloth saturated in quick-clot you might only see a drop or two?
  11. I just thought they said they were in High School...
  12. What school are you in that you have to wear scrubs?
  13. Their EMS couldn't respond to an injured DCPD officer, they can't cover their areas that they need to. I have several friends in the DCFD and I know they are not all bad, but even they agree, the system is very flawed.
  14. I get asked this question and I try to focus more on the good of our jobs. Sure I remember the bad stuff I've seen, but I really try not to spoil their image of EMS. I tell them of the babies I've delivered, of the families I've helped, and of the differences I've made. I really try not to think of the bad stuff. Every once and a while I get nightmares about a call or a decision I had made at work or on a call, but they don't haunt me like described.
  15. They're not as rare as you would think. My husband has had his medic unit hit 3 times, twice with patients, and I have been hit once.
  16. I read that the fire truck was parked to protect the scene which is what they are aupposed to do.
  17. A lot.
  18. I'm skeptical, and yes there are people in CO on this forum. Advice has been given, do not do anything beyond basic first aid.
  19. The first post of the thread
  20. I'm guessing they are referencing this.
  21. I wouldn't do this. If something happens and you place a toenail out if line, say goodbye to medicine for life. I seriously doubt though that for official training they would take a civilian. If a corpsman received orders for training then they sure as hell better show up. I'm really skeptical of this occurring in reality for official training.
  22. Haha... something similar happened to me last year, I fell going UP stairs and busted my knee wide open. Someone called EMS since my leg was gushing blood, they heard that I fell DOWN the stairs and started trying to put a c-collar on me. Sille EMS providers making assumptions and jumping to conclusions.
  23. They're a pretty decent fire department, just don't ask them to do anything medical.
  24. I knew it had cardio effects since it's used in beta-blocker overdoses. I'll read the study though, thanks for the post Ruff!
