  1. not really sure what you're wanting as far as a scenario...this guy would get the same ACLS treatment and rapid transport regardless of combative behavior during good compression cycles. I'm not even sure I would do anything to prevent her from becoming combative because at least you know she's getting blood to her brain and vital organs.
  2. Don't worry about the students who are failing taking care of your family...they'll weed out of the program. Your comments struck a cord with me as well. I've always been the kind of student that can pay attention in class and do very well. I'm a few weeks away from finishing nursing school and still have straight A's yet I very rarely spend much time outside of class and when I'm tutoring my classmates. Broad generalizations aren't fair and should be avoided...on another note, where is your daughter in school? Second year of associates or BSN? I have a bunch of friends from Iowa and one of them is looking at possibly going to nursing school. Oh and I don't think I cracked my basic book until studying for my state exam...it is possible to pass basic on lecture alone, if it was a good lecturer.
  3. There is a fine line of when to allow someone to own a gun. Just because someone had a moment where they felt suicidal doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed a gun. In Colorado I believe the line is a court ordered psych hold and the general felonies etc...
  4. I would have fluid bolused in preparation for an arrest...500cc isn't going to cause much more damage than already is occurring. Did you ever get a perfusing rhythm back?
  5. Happens at all ages. Truth is very few sexual assaults ever get to court.
  6. Hey guys... As y'all know I'm finishing up nursing school in about 15 weeks (yay)... I'm doing a project for my ped's class on drunk driving. I know everyone out here as run a few of these over the years... if you could, could you please send me some photos or even just a story about a significant or interesting drunk driving story. I'm putting together a power point and hoping to really make an impact on the high school kids I'm presenting to. It is an inner city High School with a pretty high risk population. Thanks guys
  7. I'd like to give him a good fluid bolus The ekg is looking like a base of atrial flutter in leads 2 & 3 and V5 V3 is making it look kind of like a low/lateral wall infarct with early repolatization... but I tend to suck at 12 leads so I may be completely off at this one... Either way some fluid would be good and transport with a possible helo ride waiting for transfer to the city ?
  8. BP? O2? Throw a NRB on him and see if that helps... hesitant to give NTG unless I can get him to go... Tell him he's having unresolved CP that could be an MI and he could die at home and does he want to do all that to his wife....blah blah Definitely would liket o see him go to a cath lab hospital if possible... If he consents to going NTG, ASA, O2, Morphine if we have it (4mg) if not 100mcg Fentanyl, monitor and transport...
  9. No experience with this book specifically... Don't miss class, pay attention, and keep an open mind. Best of luck to you!!
  10. Check your TSH level..this happened with me and I chalked it up to nursing school and being super busy but on routine blood work my TSH level was super high... I feel so much better now and have a lot more energy.
  11. I would be pissed...They walked to the good samaritans car, sat in it to stay warm and a medic came and instructed the car cut apart?! I have extricated patients without cutting a single thing on the car...only reason to cut is if the doors are jammed and there's significant damage...
  12. that's cool...can you post a link?
  13. Ditto, I have only ever seen single use lancets in the field and in facilities.
  14. As for the relationship part, I can't speak to pay in Canada, it can be tough. I have known some to have wonderful marriages, and some to have them always fall apart. As with most romantic relationships, they take work and the more work you put into one the more likely it is to be successful. Best bet right now, focus on education. Take some science and writing courses. Worry about the relationship part when it arises. Welcome to the site and best of luck
  15. I would only use the one we had issued when I was doing an event. That way I could walk away from the unit and have the small essentials. I would have several pairs of gloves, trauma shears, pen light, note pad/pen, and a CPR mask. I too find it odd you are required to carry one on the unit but aren't told what to put in it. As a student you should always have tons of pens (black only), notebook for taking notes, an ECG ruler, and any protocol/info you think you might need...
  16. It took me a while, but my mom figured it out
  17. It's really going to depend on the center offering the course and what their curriculum. This will vary between states, educational centers, and the country it's in. We have members here from all over the world, so being specific as to the region you are inquiring about is important. Most advanced first aid won't cover much about OB or backboarding as those are generally considered EMT skills. If you post with more detail as to where you are in the world and what center, we might be able to be of more assistance.
  18. hahaha so glad I'm at home working today
  19. Snopes may say it's false, and I agree the data is a little biased, it's still kind of cool how so much of that does line up

    Weird....

Have a history teacher explain this if they can. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost a child while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Now it gets really weird. Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford." Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford." Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the "kicker": A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe. AND...................: Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse... Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran to a theater... ------ Saw this on facebook... only fact checked a few things though so I have no idea if it is historically accurate or not. Either way... pretty crazy
  21. Maybe one of these days I'll understand the traitor thing
  22. Ditto... But on the up side I just booked my flight back to DC after I graduate
  23. Are the crackles hear early or late on the inspiratory phase?
  24. The press has every right to report... as seen with the Aurora shootings...
