  1. Well said!
  2. I'm curious as to why this whole thing became violent? We have families of our nation's leaders and our nation's leaders themselves being threatened and endangered over all of this. Is that really the answer to this "debate?"
  3. You may have to go work for a company full time to receive insurance Ruff, but I am having to stay in school full time to even get the mediocre insurance I receive now. I'm willing to do that right now, but what happens to me when I graduate in 2 years? I have a major pre-existing condition as well, and an extensive medical history for a 22-year old. If I stop being a student and loose insurance, I will have to file for bankruptcy at the age of 22 as I can not afford my medical bills and neither can my parents. It is a very scary place for me to be in and while I don't agree 100% with what Obama is doing, at least he is doing SOMETHING. What was voted on isn't final, there are more steps that must be taken before it all becomes affective, so the Republicans have a chance yet again to shoot it down. My question is this though, what are the republicans willing to do to reduce the number of uninsured americans? For those who aren't willing to pay more for others insurance, do you realize that you're already paying for them in your premiums? Private insurance companies jack up their premiums because hospitals charge insurance companies more to make up for the uninsured and non-paying parties. So in your premiums, you are paying for the uninsured and non-paying patients.
  4. As a 22-year-old American citizen with a "pre-existing" condition who has had to fight with insurance companies to receive basic medical care throughout my life, I am happy that it passed. I no longer have to live in fear that an ER visit or doctors visit won't be covered because of a condition beyond my control. No longer will insurance companies be able to drop me without warning for needing more medical care than most, and no longer will there be caps on how much they will pay. I am very excited to see the future and where this will go.
  5. Now there's two names I have not seen in forever!! Welcome back!
  6. I do give Rabbit some credit at the end for going back to therapy...

  9. Looks like the Mayor is also as bad as he seems http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/politics/Connecting-With-The-Mayor-87330652.html
  10. http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local-beat/Another_Investigation_Into_DC_Emergency_Response_Washington_DC.html A woman tells a story similar to that of the recent story about the 3 year old dying as a result of DC EMS.
  11. I second Dusty... if you don't want to read the "nit-picking" then don't, no one is forcing you to read this thread.
  12. Since when was Maryland part of New England? And I have some slight bias against Charm City too...except that cake company they make wicked awesome cakes... Don't know anything about the politics behind having it in Baltimore so often but part of me kinda has to wonder if UMBC is having something to do with that? Just speculation though as I have absolutely no clue as to the reasons why.
  13. I used to go when I lived in Maryland but don't live there anymore and I'm not even in EMS anymore so there's really no point. It is a great time though if you can make it.
  14. Read through this thread and check out the search feature...there have been LOADS of threads on this very topic to help you out! http://www.emtcity.com/index.php/topic/17528-where-is-the-future-of-this-profession-heading/page__hl__future%20of%20EMS
  15. Good luck, but I think this is the wrong section...
  16. Congrats buddy!
  17. Two people died and you feel the need to make a joke?
  18. I feel your pain. I have a condition which doesn't allow me to work the field anymore, but thankfully that was after close to 6 years of a busy suburban system. Hang in there. You'll find something you're good at and enjoy even if it isn't in the field of EMS. I had to switch majors from Nursing to health care administration because nursing would be too hard on my body. I know the feeling of giving up dreams before they even have a chance to start. I would meet with the medical director of the program/service and discuss with him what your individual situation is and if they have any suggestions. I wouldn't close any doors until you have someone tell you that you can't do EMS because you just never know. Best of luck to you and feel free to PM me anytime.
  19. Why would you wanna come here? I'm a Canadian citizen (dual with US) living here and thinking about moving to Canada if the health care system in this country doesn't improve!
  20. You had to read the other thread to get "it"... it was in response to another thread I believe.
  21. I'll wait and see if they come out with one that's more like a laptop than an iphone... if they come out with one that has word and works with handwriting notes onto it like a real tablet laptop I'll consider it.
  22. LMAO I actually thought the same thing when I first heard what they're calling it! Someone didn't put much thought into it!
  23. I'm with you. I am really disappointed in Apple today. I was an iphone user but stopped because I never had signal anywhere and my battery was crappy. I was really looking forward to the tablet thinking it would be like a tablet PC and allow me to take notes on it and create word documents, I wish it was more like a laptop and less like the iphone. I'm really quite bummed about this one and I'm usually all about apple products.
  24. Why do you feel the need to make the distinction vollies? Why not just say an EMS crew kills another one? Plenty of paid people make mistakes as well not just volunteers.
