Hello everyone, My name is Finney. I am posting this thread to gain some insight on what other states are doing about the federal requirement that requires one to accumulate 190 hours of instruction in order to become an EMT-B. I myself am not an EMT and would greatly benefit from the input of knowledgeable individuals such as yourselves. As a New York resident who deals with rural communities I have observed that it is becoming increasingly difficult for volunteers to travel 1.5 hours or more for multiple days a week to reach an EMT training facility. This is resulting in a decrease in EMS volunteers. New York State has adopted these federal guidelines but I was wondering what other states are doing in regards to their EMT-B curriculum. Are there any alternatives to going to the training facility for each session (i.e. an online alternative?). The implications are very frightening when one considers a dramatic drop in volunteer services. If anyone has any information, or knows where I could inquire to get some information, I would be very grateful.

G'morning, Ladies and Gents! I'm brand new to the forum, and I came here looking for help finding accelerated/cheap EMT-Basic classes in Colorado, so if you know something I don't, I'd sure appreciate the help . I've already exhausted everything Google and Bing could tell me, which is like trying to get tech support from an East Indian phone center, so please don't give me search results that you just pulled up from either of those two. I will stress the words accelerated and/or cheap, as those are all I'm looking for. I've been privy to too many debates about whether fast is better than/equal to/inferior to traditional-length programs, so please don't make this an argument/intervention. I'm not looking for a doctoral EMT-B. I just want to get my certification as fast and cheaply as possible, since I need to have it before I start paramedic school in January. Any thoughts? Coney Fox

Wanting to get some advice on becoming a Paramedic
Tommymac posted a topic in General EMS Discussion
I already have my EMT-B. I am planning on attending my local school in Southern PA as soon as I get back from my Family. I am 20 years old, will be 21 in July. I would like some advice on the field. The Do's/Dont's or things I should keep up on so that way, when I finish school I wont have too much trouble finding a spot with a company. -
Hi all, I'm starting an EMT training course in Boston next week, so I thought I'd try to get some advice/ future support from a group of seasoned EMTs. No serious questions yet, but I'm sure they'll come spilling out in the weeks to come! Anyone who is working or has worked in MA, I'd love to hear from you especially. See you around the boards, Wanderlust

Hello Everyone. I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Bryan,28 YOM, and I'm currently an EMT-B working for a private ambulance company up here on the northern California coast. I worked briefly in San Francisco for Protransport-1 but it did not work out due to scheduling issues. I am also a member of the local fire department. We aren't extremely busy in my area. We average I think 400 or so calls with the private ambulance company and 200-300 with the fire department. I'm looking forward to taking some math, chemistry,A&P,Spanish,English, and Basic Arrhythmia this next year while I research where I want to go for Medic school. I love: Music..favorite bands are Thrice,A Perfect Circle,TOOL,Jay-Z,and many more. Movies..favorite movie is Goodfellas Reading...favorite author is Vince Flynn Playing and recording music and getting to know new people Well I look forward to meeting and exchanging experiences, ideas, and knowledge with any and all of you. Cheers! Bryan W

Hello! I'm interested in taking an EMT-Basic course in Washington DC (or possibly the close-in suburbs, but DC proper strongly preferred). I am in my mid-30s and have totally unrelated B.A. and work experience. My schedule is very flexible, and my top priority is the quality of the instructor(s). Thank you in advance for your insight and any resources you can share!
