You know as well as anyone that has ever met me, that I have lived and experienced far more then anyone my age should. I know you mean it with a flavour of jest but please understand my opinion is based on much more then just youthful idealism. One could argue that your point of view is merely the result of aged frustration... which would be a figurative slap in the face to the well thought out view you stated.

My belief on the death penalty is it should be reserved for the worst of the worst. Hitler, Pol Pot, Milošević, O.J., Stalin, any terrorist they took alive in Beslan. Anyone the evidence and the world agree needs to be put down. This is based on the fact that even if they are alive and in prison they have followers to carry out their murders. Maybe not O.J. but I really hate the motherf*cker. What the world needs is an island to put the worst of the worst on, no bars no guards. Just 1,000 miles of ocean to keep them on the island. Kind of like another Australia but nicer. We don't want to be accused of cruel and unusual punishment.

umm... Yes I have needed police back-up. Thanks for asking. I still fail to see the connection between the death penalty and my job in EMS.

Ok then... here's how they envisioned the relevance...

Emergency response (in real world) includes fire, EMS and police. So the upset caused by an officer being killed should be felt by the entire emergency response community. The beef is that as one of our fellow brothers in this general industry has been killed, there is concern that the punishment may not fit the crime...

To the original poster correct or amend me if I'm wrong.

Here's what I have to say about the whole 'prisoner rights BS......

http://www.emtcity.com/phpBB2/weblog.php?w...=2007&day=1

I agree with capital punishment, but I think that rather than sitting on death row for 20 years while appeal after appeal is filed, the whole process should be expedited somewhat.

For those of you that think that the return of the death penalty would actually increase the costs to the taxpayers, think about it.....

if it costs $10,000 per inmate/per year to house them, feed them and look after their medical needs, as well as provide air conditioning, cable, weights, frisbees etc.....think of how much less it would cost if that time in 'the joint' were cut down by say even 10 years!
