Scar, didn't you know that Global Warming is the biggest scam attempted to be perpetrated on the world.

Darn you Ruff  get back on track.

Well back on topic. I need an ambulance that can carry at least 3 supine back boarded patients, I have had 4 back boarded in my ambulance. I have had 6 medical patients at one time as well. Those little toy ambulances that barely fit 1 patient with a small EMt and no supplys will not work in rural EMS.

Spenac, the reason why we keep getting off track is because of Global Warming don't you get it.

But to answer your question, one of my old services has a ambulance that can do what you want. I'll have to get the name of the manufacturer but it's a huge gas(diesel) guzzling unit. It's reminds me of the dump truck picture that was posted a while ago.

I have a presentation about a EMS Service that converted some big semi's into mobile disaster hospitals. I'll only send it to you via email because it's so large. I actually may have to post it on a file hosting site since the files huge.

People won't even stop smoking, drinking, abusing drugs, overeating, skateboarding, or crotch-rocketing to prolong their own lives today. It's absolutely silly to expect that a significant portion of the earth's population will ever be so committed or disciplined to sacrifice their current lifestyle on groundless speculation that it might help somebody else one hundred years from now. Get real, folks. Give it up. You're wasting your time and breath even pondering this nonsense. Move on. Live your life today. Whatever is going to happen tomorrow is going to happen with or without you or me.
I don't know about that, I've seen some global-wide progress and some promising trends, such as electric power. And hey, we're going to run out of oil eventually, so there's an example of it having a double good use, even if it ends up being naturally occurring. And no worries, we won't even eliminate greenhouse gases to the point we start freezing. We didn't freeze before the Industrial Revolution.

Sorry, Dust, there's something in my genes that makes me want to look out for my future progeny....it's biological. I won't spend that much time on it, but I'll support those who do.

PS I'm pretty sure the extreme lows are bad, too. I'm going to assume you were being facetious

Why do you need a monster ambulance to carry 6 patients 0.01% of the time. 99% of the time you are transporting one patient. Why not have an MCI vehicle to respond to the 0.01% of the calls you need it.

Those little toy ambulances are the norm in parts of Europe, a system that in many ways is more advanced than us. Just how many supplies do you think you need to carry? Why can the European ALS providers do their jobs without monster ambulances?

We need to prepare ourselves for the fact the public is starting to demand a change. Both because of climate worries and more importantly increased fuel prices. Railroads have managed to come up with hybrid locomotives. If they can come up with a hybrid locomotive I think we can do better than we are.

Change is coming, I was just looking for ideas and to see how you all feel about it.

Ours is more like 10% of our transports include more than 1 patient. Mostly it's medical. we go from house to house picking them up. It's funny to see the old guys expression while your delivering a baby.

Seen the bus that got converted into an ambulance? It was posted up here a while back... had bariatric capabilities, seats for those not requiring supine position or spinal immobilization, room for about 2 cots and then basically bunk-stretchers for those who just need to lie down...

It was really awesome looking. Heck, where you are, they're all trying to get on the bus anyways....

Hey, those look like the buses the local casinos use for picking up patients, er, tennants from the assisted living complexes!

Actually there is a larger concern when considering the difference between the box trucks and vans for transporting patients: safety. Don't worry spenac, I'll start a different thread later this evening. ;)

To the origional topic, with the trend in fuel prices and the unlikelyhood that they will drop, the bean counters will start making arguments for smaller ambulances (i.e. fuel prices, maintenence issues, housing issues, etc). When the ambulance managers are given the choice between finding a way to cut costs regarding vehicles or cutting costs elsewhere, what decision do you think your manager will make?

Thats right you better so I don't change your name to MR FELON.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
