No, they're not false, you just misunderstood. They are functioning as EMT's only but they are making the same as, if not more than, they would at the MICU. That's why they work OCFD full time and only per diem at the shore. They'd rather work at the FD and work OT there before picking shifts as a medic. The guys that have been there awhile made as much as I did working two medic jobs. And the only worked 1/2 the hours I did!

OK, so the rumors I have heard about Medics functioning as EMTs but still making Medic money are false then?

Point of order.

They are not functioning as EMTs. They are functioning as BLS paramedics.

Huge difference, and it's not just semantics.

ARMC was 22 something an hour for per diem and a little less for full time.

UMH was also a really good paycheck.

Just going by what he said he was doing.

Me, "Hey, XXXXXX, what are you doing working on a bus today?"

XXXXXX, "hey AJ, I'm working as an EMT today."

No disrespect was meant, I was just calling it as I was told.

scratrat,

thanks!

Yeah, I know you understand, Bro.

I'm just trying to squash these references that lead to the perpetuation of the misconception that the only difference between an EMT and a Paramedic is a drug box. If people come here and read that, they believe it, and that is killing us.

Of COURSE there are differences.....EMTs carry the pt, Medics don't!

Seriously though, since I am going through Medic school, I now see why some states require Medic students to be an EMT for a certain amount of time, and some require an entrance exam.

Too bad more then half my class is being forced to be there

But that is another topic, for another day.

Maybe when I feel like stirring the pot again, I will bring that up

Oh geeze... I didn't realise that was a problem in Central Floridia. :? I thought that, even in the firemonkey cities/counties, there was a goodly number of them who were into the EMS thing. You're in Brevard County, right? That's where I spent my childhood. I hate to see it going downhill. I know my hometown of Cocoa Beach has gone to the darkside.
