Plus 10 for buying Philips AEDs instead of just buying what all the other unimaginative monkeys are buying. Especially since all the public buildings -- including the police stations in the town in question -- are equipped with Lifepak AEDs.

Minus 5 for not buying enough of them. Must be a grant thing or something, because I am surprised that they even participate in this programme. Although the EMS is an AMR PUM thing, the FD co-responds on most runs, and is very heavily staffed with probably close to 80 percent medics, and not from 90-day firemonkey schools either. There's darn few times in that town where PD would beat FD and EMS both to a medical scene, except at night.

The PD in this particular town is also anal about not running hot to anything less than an officer in distress. They commonly tell their officers not to engage in pursuits, and to discontinue them after they have started. They are all about the liability card in this town, so I don't find it surprising that they don't routinely run hot to cardiac arrests.

On the positive side, PD in this town is also well educated (Bachelors degree minimum requirement), and not a bunch of your typical Texas Bubba's who just drive around all night looking for an arse to kick. They're known to be quite helpful, unlike your typical Texas town.
