We are in class today and my teacher states that per the national registry we do not put ice on snake bites. Can anyone tell me why this is the case?

What are the possible physiological effects?

Frost bite. More tissue damage than you get from snake bite. And it's just the current way of thinking. It will change again sometime somewhere. There is an article by a snake bite expert from Florida that discusses it more but you will have to research as I'm to lazy to find it sorry.

I can’t see how ice would help…

In the old days we thought it slowed the spread of the toxins from the snake bite.

Oh ok... I suppose ice would do that to some extent as it restricts the blood flow a lill. I assume pressure immobilization and urgent transport to hospital is the most effect treatment. I guess another instructors case of ‘back in the old day’ syndrome…

I always slice the bite with a bootknife and suck the poison out....

Maybe I'm just old' school though :D

Amputation is for wusses. Dr. Chuck Norris would do it Mobey's way with no PPE or anesthesia.

Snakes fear the mongoose.

The mongoose fears Chuck Norris.
