My apologies. What happened was that in the course of searching for material in this thread, I located instead, and misidentified (perhaps you can see why?), the thread on which we are now speaking. The thread I was looking for does indeed contain the material I was looking for. I realized my error a moment after I had posted my complaint here, and so deleted it, but apparently not quickly enough to escape your attention. So things aren't all that bad: Posts do disappear, as I understand it, but only way older ones. Sorry for the confusion.
