Megan780 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I've been upset that not more Americans, and others around the world don't watch hockey. I'm in Canada, so we have plenty of hockey fans. I wanted to know why it's unpopular. This poll is for Canadians too!
spenac Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Go Stars. Stomp the canucks. Red wings suck. I like hockey. Did not answer poll because no option given to watch sometimes. I think in the USA most just do not understand it. We all grew up playing and watching football ( not what the rest of the world calls football but what we call soccer but NFL style ).We stay with what we know. Another problem is the marketing in the USA, where is it. Beyond Wayne most cannot name another hockey player past or present. Since the stupid strike what fan base was developing was lost. Hope that helps answer.
Megan780 Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 Oh sorry. I just went back to see if I can fix it, but it wouldn't let me. NBC aired hockey for awhile, but it got very low ratings. I'm not sure if NBC still brodcasts it anymore.
Dustdevil Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Because we aren't a bloodthirsty, violence condoning society like Canadia is.
Megan780 Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 You mean the lockout? Didn't Sydney Crosby make news in the states, or Alexander Alexander Ovechkin?
spenac Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Unless theres a really good fight with injurys, hockey is hardly ever mentioned on the news my area. Before the strike/lockout/whatever hockey had decent ratings not great but still some networks would show it. Now it is only on one channel very rarely. I honestly no longer even know who is on the Stars because it is so hard to get games. That stoppage killed it in the USA.
Richard B the EMT Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Numerous TV comedians: "They interrupted the fights with a hockey game!"
PCB Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 You can't really appreciate hockey until you have seen it live. Right down on the boards with a face smashed on the other side of the glass. Teams should hand out some free tickets to grade school kids. Have them drag their parents to a game. That might do the trick. PC
Capman Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Hockey is still popular in the USA, they just changed things a bit. They lost the ice, sticks, and puck. It became what is known as the UFC.
