This is a stupid idea. You can not be the best when you are so divided. This also could prove detrimental as more people with questionable backgrounds not calling for an ambulance when they need it because they know cops would be entering their homes. As a cop when you are on EMS shift can you honestly shut it off and ignore the bag of pot on the table? No. We are not public safety we are mobile medical professionals. Fire and LE have no business involved in EMS.

I was joking.

There are actually such departments of cross-trained Fire Fighter/Law Enforcement Officers?

Actually, I'll answer my own question, a bit.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department runs as LEOs in Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark-Liberty Airports, and also are the operators of the Fire/Rescue Crash Trucks there. The PAPD Officers are also each trained to either NY or NJ EMT-B level, with quite a few also trained to Paramedic level. I don't know if they are NREMT or NREMT-P, as they are primarily LEOs, and I have never seen any state patch for any level of medical training, or NREMT patches, either. I was told, however, most of this by a retired PAPD cop. They have at minimum, reciprocity on both sides of the Hudson River.
