Here is the story....

Air ambulance makes emergency landing

Associated Press

January 17, 2008

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- A medical helicopter made an emergency landing in a southwest Indiana field after the pilot decided the snow was too heavy to continue flying.

The Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter was transporting a patient from Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ill., to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

The helicopter landed in a field near the Posey-Vanderburgh county line about 8 p.m Wednesday. The pilot said he decided to land the helicopter when the snow made it difficult to see.

An ambulance arrived about 20 minutes later to take the patient to Deaconess Hospital.

Proof that Life over limb. Do we know the reason that the patient is being air evacuated? I didn't see it in the article. I hope the patient is ok.

Glad all are safe. However, I wonder just what, exactly, this pilot's weather check told him before they lifted for this mission. I'm well aware that sometimes weather sneaks up on you. But I'm still curious of their decision making process in determining whether they'll accept a mission or not.

Yes it was medically necessary, Yes the patient was fine, Yes it was a freak weather situation that was unsuspected and the Pilot was being safe on his decision to land and not continue.
