Same as ours. But god help you if you cross him, no matter what service your in! ;)
I feel for ya, really.

Our Medical Director isn't that bad. He's approachable and always willing to at least listen to you.

I liked the comment about EMS absorbing fire since 90% of the volume is medical. Sign me up for that job. Can you imagine firefighters taking orders from a doctor on how to fight a fire?

"OK, get a hose and put some water over there!!!! Get that big silver tool and break some of those windows!!! What do you mean venting???? There is no one intubated yet!!!!!" It's probably much funnier picturing it in my head.

Why do these fire chiefs think they can appropriately run EMS?

The one Fire Chief I did mention that did not want EMS in with the FD, he may NOT have wanted but when he found out how much funding he could get, well by all means let's get involved. Once he did find that out he became an "authority" on EMS/FD operations. He was also a egomaniac and very narcissistic too, by the way. (Just thought I'd throw that in)

The position of medical director would be established as a contract employee, reporting to the top fire chief.

I find this VERY disturbing!!

My friends or family won't be going there any time soon...

So again, EMS is used as a cash cow to prop up a FD. I say again. 2 Seperate professions. Run them seperate.
