Well, thank you all for your input.....

My director told us if its under $100 dont worry about, but anything over, contact a supervisor.

Less than $100 is ok, more than $100 is contact a supervisor, but what if it's $100?

Unfortunately, not a problem, because with inflation, $100 immediately becomes worth less than $100.

Absolutely - a gesture made to service personnel - not to professionals.

Sure. I agree. But, regardless of what we would like to be, we really are just service personnel. Even nurses are stuck with that image, so we have no hope of ever shaking it.

To outright refuse a nominal gratuity given from the heart is a classless gesture. My mama raised me better.

I believe I already specifically excluded public servants from this equation in an earlier post.

We're just talking about ambulance drivers here, not government officials.

Sorry. Overlooked that.

So now I'm wondering how the Brinks guard at the bank will react tomorrow when I try to slip him a fin as I stroll up to the teller. :P

When I was with a private serv. we were told to never accept a tip. The reason...the boss was afraid that they would come back on us and say the money was missing therefore accuse us of stealing it. He was paranoid like that. One Christmas we transported a nursing home patient to her son's house so she could spend the day with them. A few hours later we transported her back to the home. Since it was Christmas the family thought that we needed a tip since we weren't spending time with our family. We refused of course. But they gave us a card. Later on we opened the card and their was $40 in it for us. We got called into the office, chewed out, :jerk: and if I remember right we got some beer and munchies and had our own little Christmas party.

I see your point, however I work for the province of British Columbia.
