tiedyedbeth Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 No, no, no...not the Navy or the AF. You want to join the Coast Guard!
FormerEMSLT297 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 NYC runs something like this... You have to: A. Get hired by FDNY-EMS as an EMT B. Complete the EMS Academy C. Complete Probationary period D. Take and pass an written test E. Pass an Oral Interview then if you pass you are accepted, and you get paid while in the academy m-f 9-5 for 10 11 months whatever. Some other depts. have a similar program but i dont know about Delaware, you would probably have to be hired by the local EMS first, then wait your turn and apply. Good Luck
spenac Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 There are some big services that offer tuition reimbursement. Austin Texas is one that comes to mind. You have to work for them a while before eligible.
Scaramedic Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 No, no, no...not the Navy or the AF. You want to join the Coast Guard! Coast Guard, Navy what's the difference. 100 men go to sea 50 couples come back.

You have to work for them a while before eligible. Tuition for what? They only hire medics. Do you mean they refund you whatever you paid for medic school before even working there, after you have worked for them for awhile? That would be bizarre.

That's a little confusing for those of us who don't speak FDNYese. By "academy", are you referring to an in-house paramedic programme, or what?

Reimbursement for paramedic after you have worked as a basic in the dispatch center for at least a year.
Dustdevil Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Ah! I forgot about the dickscratchers. That's one of the weak links in the ATC system. Better systems won't put anything less than a highly experienced medic in dispatch, even if they do put basics on the trucks.
