What calls sometimes throw you off or sometimes trip you up? This question mainly applies to the veteran Paramedics who have worked the streets 5-10 years. We ALL have our weaknesses,so what is yours and how do you handle it.

I'll be the first to admit, OB related calls are my weakness. We don't see many of them, so when I get called to something OB related I feel that I am inadequate. I wish we did more training rather than avoiding training in that area so I felt better equipped to handle those situations. My strong point though is cardiac. Give me a heart, and I'm happy.

DUI calls where the impaired driver is uninjured and the occupants of the other vehicle are.

Any burn, I don't like the smell. The smell has a way of sticking with you for a few days especially the bad ones.

I just deal with it at the time and vent / rant / talk about it after the call is over, with anyone who'll listen.

i'd have to say the simple calls that wake me up after 0400 till shift change.....if i could get a cup of coffee on the way, i'd be able to think better. give me a respiratory call any day tho, thats the call i really get into...............

hope my 15 years gets me qualified to speak up!

My major weakness is pediatrics. We did not have adequate training and they are not that common. I read quite a bit and take any extra training possible to try and sharpen the edge.

Psych's definitely. At one time peds. seemed to bother me, but for some reason I eventually became at ease with them.
