As anyone would know, who has been in a situation where you know that if you don't stop, you'll suffer instant pain and injury.. or worse.. It's very difficult to make a quick decision, even if it seems obvious.

So true but don't these things just have a release thingie(technical term - similar to a whatchamacallit)

? It isn't like you just grab hold and go or is it?

I do believe that there is a release somewhere between the belt and the kite, but if I heard or read correctly things happened to fast here to pull the release.

This gets me back to what I said before.......stupid people are job security!

Kite surfing + Hurricane = stupid!

The paramedic life guard truck I assumed? they're not paramedics?

Eh..I was talking about the lifeguard truck. I have never heard of a paramedic certification being required in order to be a lifeguard. I know some beaches require lifeguards to be basics, but I found it odd that they called the lifeguard truck "paramedics"

Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue has an ALS Ocean Rescue team for Beach Patrol.

I know the LA County lifeguards provide the paramedic services on Catalina Island.

Quick bit of research suggests that Okaloosa County FL and Virginia Beach have Paramedic/Lifeguards and that New Hanover County NC has some sort of swimming paramedic program.

EDIT: Almost forgot, AMR in Portland puts EMTs and Paramedics on the Columbia River on a seasonal basis

Thanks guys, I was not aware of any lifeguards with ALS skill sets. All the more power to them.....I guess.
