itku2er Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 The only thing either one of them has said that I agree with so far is that governement spending is out of control.
JPINFV Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I watched the first half and have to agree with both McCain winning so far AND nothing substantial has been said by either side. Edit: Actually, the real winner is Jim Lehrer. He's making both candidates look like fools by actually calling them out on not answering the question.
paramedicmike Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I don't know. I think McCain started out weak. He looked and sounded like an old man. He's been non-specific on his answers (like any good politician should be). He's been taking off on tangents to make his points but winds up off the point he initially started to make. Obama comes across stronger, but he's not saying anything of substance. He's not answering either. I agree that Jim Lehrer is the clear winner in all of this. Bring him back for future debates. -be safe
firedoc5 Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I'm not a "politico", so you won't see me post here much, but I will be watching every now and then. I did see some of the debate. My first impression(s), Both had right and both had wrong answers and ideas. Obama, to me, seemed like a first time debate club capt. in college. A lot of uhs, ummms, pauses, etc. McCain seemed too stiff and had too many "letter perfect answers". Please correct me if I'm wrong, just don't hit me. Like I said, deep politics is not my things, even though it should be.
paramedicmike Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 McCain needed a "blow Obama out of the water" style win. He didn't get it. In fact, he only managed to pull a tie out of the debate. As such, since Obama was ahead in the polls before the debate, McCain, effectively, handed the win to his opponent. Not good to do if you're trying to win. -be safe
Arizonaffcep Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 In spring semester, I did some research on Obama's health care plan...I can only assume similar TYPES of "plans" make up his campaign...which was a total sham. There is nothing of substance to his healthcare plan, NOR anything else I've seen from him. When you actually dig into his details and try to pin them down...there's nothing there. Everything is incomplete (that I've seen thus far). This is the reason I'm voting for McCain. That, and like it was pointed out earlier...Palin's hot!
paramedicmike Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Why? Because McCain has said anything that makes sense? He's been able to provide specifics about his plans? Try again. I'm not for one or the other. But neither has provided anything of substance. Neither has plans that can be pinned down. And really, should they provide details? The President is a figure head. Congress is the power. Any President can have grand ideas and detailed plans but if Congress isn't on board it doesn't matter. -be safe
firedoc5 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I know this is a stupid question, but, Obama is calling for change, a lot of changes, but is it actually feasible and realistic that he can make those changes in 4-8 yrs.? And it's not just Washington he wants to change, it's the people. You can't change people over the course of a few years. It's sort of like having to wait for generations of politicians to "die" out, be it physically or loss of their office's. OK, I'm done with what seems like a kindergartner at a Harvard meeting.
Richard B the EMT Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 OK, I'm done with what seems like a kindergartner at a Harvard meeting. Nothing wrong with that. My outspoken politics are strictly local, to the city council or state assembly/state senate level, so consider me a "Pre-Schooler".
Just Plain Ruff Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 This isn't about the candidates, but is a hot top currently. This is an e-mail I got this am and I just thought it would be fun to see the different reactions..........since we are throwing politics out there. Subject: AIG Bailout I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend. To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.. So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00. My plan is to give $425,0 00 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend. Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,50000 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam. But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00. What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family? Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved. Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads Put away money for college - it'll be there Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs. Buy a new car - create jobs Invest in the market - capital drives growth Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces. If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President. If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+! As for AIG - liquidate it. Sell off its parts! Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up. Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't. Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work." But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party! How do you spell Economic Boom? I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC. And remember, The Family plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam. Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest. Kindest personal regards , A Creative Person & Citizen of the Republic ! PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it's either good for a laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85 Billion! ! Obviously this is just an opinion of someone's (I don't know who), and we will never see anything like this happen, but I did find it interesting to read................. Thoughts? A math professor who I go to church with said that the math was wrong, it's 425.00 per person.
