...running emergent with lights and siren. The fire alarm went off in the student center today... and guess who beat the fire department in? That's right...

The Segway. I think our laughter drowned out the siren.

Cop Car Upgrade: The Segway

Can you say... "I AM NOT INTIMIDATING" any louder?

It doesn't really surprise me, though. Those things reach 12 MPH and are not limited to streets like fire engines. In addition, the Segway cops could have been in the area by chance anyways.

For many cops it is better than depending on their feet to get them somewhere faster since foot patrols are coming back to many cities with troubled neighborhoods.

There are several ALS Segways in service throughout the country. Florida unbelievably did not start this trendy mode of transportation to compliment the engines or golf carts.

In California the Segway is now replacing the polo pony.

At least on the golf cart one's you can pop wheelies. :glasses7:

The vehicles pictured might be able to pop wheelies, as they are trikes. Segways are 2 wheeled, so presumably, if one pops a wheelie, the operator might be laying on their back with the Segway on top of them.

The hospital cops use them here for patrol and parking infraction detail. They don't even need to get off it to come inside. Pretty cool.

Our cops just got one, and the local mall security has one as well.

I got thrown out of a mall near Seattle two years ago for taking a picture of mall security on their Segways. We were on our way to the parking lot anyway.

I suppose we could pull the LDH behind us on a little red wagon, but the ladder's going to be a problem.
