Eydawn Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hey folks. Many of you know that I am a pen-chewer; when I study, or when I'm thinking, I sit there with a pen in my mouth. When I need to shuffle papers around with both hands, I hold the pen in my mouth. NOT a good habit to have when I'm on shift. Pen = icky. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do? I've tried bringing a specific pen with me and drilling the idea into my head that it's a nasty pen, but when I go to work on paperwork, I realize AFTER about 4 minutes that it's in my mouth again. Help me! I'm at my wits end. It's been such a long standing thing with me... Wendy CO EMT-B
mrmeaner Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Try wrapping the end of the pen in a couple wraps of bandage tape so the different texture and taste will be a more immediate reminder. :dontknow:
pguy280 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 lollipops ??? May want to try hypnosis. Wish you luck breaking the habit.
spenac Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Soak your pen in Louisana hot sauce. Of course if you like hot stuff like me might back fire.
Mateo_1387 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Wendy, just buy one of these ! You won't put it in your mouth........I'm sure you don't want a reputation............ But in all seriousness, you would be forced to put it down instead of in you mouth. Just put a Gall's sticker on it and your pen will be the envy of everyone.
akflightmedic Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hey folks. Many of you know that I am a pen-chewer; when I study, or when I'm thinking, I sit there with a pen in my mouth. When I need to shuffle papers around with both hands, I hold the pen in my mouth. 1. Stop Studying 2. Stop thinking 3. Stop shuffling papers with both hands See how easy that was? Problem solved! I like the wrap it in tape idea. Maybe use only pens from drug reps, specifically Viagra, Cialis, Valtrex, or Herpes Awareness ones. That might make you think about what you are putting in your mouth. Seriously, it is like any other habit. It takes time to break it and you have just got to be on it at all times. I think the tape idea may be best. A different texture and taste will constantly remind you that the pen should not be in your mouth.
Michael Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 And what do you think cigarettes were invented for? (Only kidding.)
